Back In The Game

In the fourth minute of the fight, Derek could notice a few people pointing fingers and murmurs spread through the arena. Using his eyes to follow the fingers that pointed to one of the arena's exits, he could clearly see the blond hair.

Looking less pale than he was when he was carried out of the stage, he sauntered into the arena gearing up for the next round of his fight.

He was shirtless with white bandage wrapped around his mid-section, surprisingly there was no blood stain on the bandage. And his footsteps were gaunt, like he was never injured.

"That's the work of Aliston. I guess you can call her the school nurse, her ability focuses on healing and she is the best healer around."

Derek knew at once that it was Maya explaining, it was like she sensed his confusion and offered explanations even before he voiced out his questions.

"By the way, she cannot resurrect the dead and she can only do so much for fatal injuries, she does her work and the rest would have to heal by itself with the help of drugs and time, but for injuries like this. Easy peasy." Maya explained to Derek.

From the way she spoke, she sounded like she knew this Aliston on a personal level, Derek couldn't really explain but he at least knew that there was something strange about her.

Not that it changed anything for him, he at least didn't think that she was a bad person. Unless she maybe wanted something from him, but what could she possibly want.

He was a nobody, he didn't even have a family or anything to his name. the best he could do was to see her as an acquaintance. Thinking about it, Derek realized that Maya's voice sounded a little closer than usual.

He looked to his right side and could see Maya sitting almost next to him, he began to wonder how she managed it, but just then loud cheers erupted from the crowd once again.

Pulling his attention back towards the stage, the blond haired had already rejoined the fight. The last fight had just started and a lot was already happening.

David held a staff in his hand just as he did in the previous fight, and the blond went for tonfas this time, his decision being influenced by David's choice of weapon.

David stood a few steps from the blond in the stage, he had already tried attacking his opponent, whacking his staff around but the blond was quite quick and had a lot of stamina.

Though he had not done much in the last fight to attract a lot of attention, except the scene that had resulted in him being taken away by a stretcher. But it was quite clear from the last fight that he had quite the stamina and he had showed his prowess in blocking rather than attacking.

David stared his opponent down, watching his every move, the movement in his legs, the movement of his eyes and hand also trying to intimidate him in the process.

The blond stood calm, the both of them took slow steps round the stage, circling each other and the crowd stood still watching in anticipation.

Everyone was interested in David, at least much more than anyone else that stood facing an opponent on the stages.

David having precisely made his calculations took a single step, almost as if a mirrored movement, the blond twisted his feet inwards. Noticing this, David stopped in his tracks.

David was now at least sure that the blond was doing almost the same thing, he was gauging his strength and at the same time trying to predict his next move.

At this point, there were loud murmurs from the majority in the crowd who were watching David's fight. There was nothing special about the blond, judging with his last fight but it was already three minutes and David had not landed a hit yet.

The crowd felt that the fight should be over already, knowing that a lot of eyes were on him, David began to spin his staff in his two hands while approaching the blond.

He didn't care if he knew it was a distraction, he was going to land a hit and make it count. If he could knock out his first opponent with a single hit, there was nothing really special about this one.

David was just five steps away from the blond and he jumped straight at his opponent, his spinning staff had become stationary in the air, and he whacked it down at his opponent.

His opponent was ready for the attack, turning his both hands inwards he blocked with the tonfas. David aborted his attack midway and let his staff fall.

Using his left hand, he grabbed the staff out of the air and attacked the blond at his side. His opponent caught on too late. He strengthened his stomach muscles and brought his hands down to intercept the attack but it was too late.

The staff whacked him on the side and sent him rolling to the side, the crowd suddenly got noisy once again. This was what they had been waiting for.

The defending champion was supposed to live up to expectations and not struggle against a nobody that no one knew, in the second round.

The blond grabbed his side and keeled over, if the Nurse hadn't healed his injury, he would have surely been out of commission.

David grinned at the result of the move he just pulled, it was basic combat, just much more effective when it was used by someone skilled.

The blond let one of his tonfas drop to the floor and held his side, just right beside where he was stabbed with a dagger. David waited for his opponent to stand up before attacking again.

Slowly the blond came to his feet, David watched him pick his tonfa, as soon as he was on his feet David had already closed half the gap between them.

The blond was immediately on alert, David launched himself forward and swung his staff, aiming to end this in one blow.
