Divine Covenant

"Wait, where am I? What am I? ... W-who am I?" A boy sits in the dark room where the stars serves as the light and where the floor is the wet mirror to the starry sky above. The boy continued to walk endlessly in this beautiful, dark yet emtpy void room. "Where am I? What am I? and especially who am I?" "For what purpose am I here? Why?" Walking eventually ended in him finding a giant gate that seemed to topple and over heights the sky above him. ""What is that?" It gives a warm feeling to it with it's white light from the other side, which is an alien feeling to him. He feels nothing but sorrow, it's the only emotion that he knows of. He ran towards it without giving it any thought. His struggle will somehow bear fruit however, the door starts to close. With literally inches of distance away from the gate, it completely shut itself from the boy. "Wait! Don't leave me here!" Tears started to fall from his eyes, running across his face. With that, a picture of a melancholic boy who somehow serves no purpose can be seen kneeling down and asking why is he experiencing this unjust treatment. Eventually, nothing filled the void, where he resides, but the echoes of a cry from a lost soul.

I'm a quiet guy, particularly at foreign places. The scene that just happened says other wise.

I took my seat, and sat quietly. Everything would be less awkward if the person beside me was someone who, not in any way, had any past experience with me. My current situation, however, contradicts the given idea.

I try not to look at her, but my peripheral vision fails me. I can't help but glance a tiny bit.

If you know the definition of awkward, my situation now would perfectly fit the definition of the word.

The class was quiet, though I can hear murmurs, it can't be classified as noisy. On the first day, factions or groups of students were already formed.

The class continued on without a teacher for about 6 minutes.

Chimes were installed on the classroom doors, so it would ring when someone enters or exit the room.

The chimes rang, and immediately after, everyone grew quiet. Everyone knew that the teacher is currently entering the room. They kept their mouths shut, and waited.

The door opened, and came out a lady teacher. She looks like she's in her late 40s.

Her face is unfamiliar.

She walked along the chalkboard in front.

"Ehem. Hello everyone. First of all let me say this, congratulations on passing the entrance exam. You all completed a task where many have failed. In your three years in this school, I'll be your primary teacher for your first year. I would teach a part of your lesson. Particularly magic. I would be the one who will teach you magic on the first half of the lessons. The second half would be weapons lesson. Your second teacher will be introduced to you later after my class."

A pretty decent public speaker.

"My name by the way is Edith Victor. I believe I have met some of you at the exam already. Now, all of your books are under your desks. Please get your books out.

"Are all books out? Alright, we'll begin our lecture."

An hour have passed after her introduction. We finished discussing the first lesson which is the history of magic and the basic technical knowledge information about magic.

For some reason, it felt really boring. I'm not sure, but it feels like I'm the only one who doesn't listen. I look around me, sees everyone writing every important things Edith says.

The reason I'm bored isn't because the lesson is boring, but I already learned all of this things under Master Catalina.

I feel bad for the teacher in front, one of her students is not listening but it isn't her fault.

The lesson went again for about 20 minutes.

"...So class, incantation is pretty valuable in casting spells. It serves as a basis on how a spell works. For example, if you chant the phrase: " The invisible force around that binds, aid me. Wind Blow..."

The lesson continued on, but for some reason, I fell asleep.

When she finished chanting the phrase for the spell Wind Blow, she pointed her index finger at my direction.

"There are many uses for simple spells like this. One such example is waking up a sleeping student. Observe."

She points her finger at my direction, and shoots the blast of air towards my direction.

I was currently unconscious so the spell hit my defenseless head. I felt a cold breeze along my upper body. It immediately woke me up.

I stood up and noticed that everyone is looking at me. I was clueless at what was currently happening.

I got a good look in everybody's face, and of course teacher's too. She wasn't very happy.

( I'll use this mark ' ' to serve as an indicator for an internal monologue.)

'Crap. I've made the teacher angry at the first day of school. Not a pleasant situation this is.'

I immediately sat down.

" You there. Stand up please." she ordered.

I stood up of course.

"It seems you find this class as a worthy time to sleep." she said with a menacing face.

'Ahh. The humiliation right now. It's unbearable.'

"Seeing you sleep, I can assume you all know all this stuff, right?"

'I want to say yes but that would only make matters worse.'

"Could you please explain how chants works, Mr. Sleepyhead?"

"Uhmm..."

"What's ' Uhmm...'. I need your explanation now please or if you can't explain how any of this stuff works, I could ask the school board to remove you out of this class, the school even. So now, I need your explanation."

'Oh shoot, things escalated quickly.'

With the tone of her voice, I think she doesn't do jokes.

* Gulp *

' Let's go.'

"Magic incatations or chants you may call it is commonly used to cast spells. It's used as a basis on how a spell works. If I can define what a chant is, I call it as a Spell Activator."

"Uhh... C-correct. Earlier, WE said that chants serves an important role is spell casting. Now then, seeing you're quiet knowledgeable about magic, let me ask this question: Could you explain why empowering spells does not require any chanting?"

After asking the question, she had a irritating smirking face, then she immediately hid it.

'I see. So that's how you want things to play out. Hmmp... Let me answer your question by giving a brilliant answer.'

Basically, empowering spells are like the one Charles did earlier.

"Empowering spells doesn't require chants because it's just pouring mana into a certain part of your body or an object you're holding like a stick. Now, for example, when you pour mana into an object you can alter it's properties, like changing it's density, making it harder."

After giving that answer, everyone was dumbfounded. I look at the teacher, instead of seeing an impressed face, she had that slightly angry borderline expression on her face.

It felt great, ruining your teacher's negative thought of an outcome of how things should happen to you.

"G-great job."

'This kid irritates the hell out of me. I want to fu*****g pull his hair, and walk around the school campus. I can't let him look like a genius in front of everyone, unless...'

"What's your name young boy?" she asks.

"Trent Faer."

"Okay Trent Faer. I can't let you off so easily. I have a punishment for you."

Everyone started talking among themselves.

"What? A punishment on the first day of school."

"I know right. That's an ouch."

"So unfortunate."

"He deserves that."

"Yeah. What a loser."

I could hear them but I let them speak their minds because it was my fault in the first place, but a punishment on the first day? How unfortunate.

"Young boy, our school have this event every month. Magic discussion. Every month, each class picks their own representative for the month. This event is where various discussion about magic is held. This is a place where you can find brilliant theories from brilliant students."

Theories, eh?

"At this point point, do you know what your punishment is, right?"

"Yes..."

* chatter * chatter * chatter *

" Sucks to be him."

" Yeah, you're right."

" Hahaha, that's what you get for sleeping."

Apart from the murmurs before, these ones are really offensive. If couldn't control myself, students from this room would be immediately sent to the infirmary.

"You're our representative for this month, good lock, Mr. Sleepyhead."

"Yes Ma'am..."

"You can take your seat now."

"The event takes place after 15 days from now. Be sure to be ready."

'Hahahaha! Fool! That's what you get for offending me, Edith Victor, I didn't even mention if the class representative doesn't impress the evaluators, you'll be expelled. This is a prestigious school, this is what you expect from it. I'll see you get expelled from 15 days from now, Hahahah!"
