Emily...

She kept convincing herself that the man was only bluffing but the panic didn't leave.

It only grew making Emily's palm sweat as she tried to keep her hands on the steering wheel.

Once she got home, she went straight to the bathroom where she puked her insides out.

Cole was worried and had asked her countless of time if she needed the hospital.

Each time she replied with a NO and eventually sent him to the pharmacy to get some drugs.

She had privacy now and she wasn't going to waste it.

She went on Google and searched on the word mate.

All they showed her was what she knew already.

Mate were for animals and from all the research that had been gathered werewolves were half-animal half-human.

She didn't believe in soulmates but it was clear werewolves did.

Why else would one of them call Linda a human their mate?

"To get your attention"

That voice rang in her head making her jump from her seat.

She needed information and so far the only person who could give her that was Cole.

***********

She had barely touched her dinner.

The reason being she didn't like eating outside.

Cole had ordered dinner outside so that Emily wouldn't need to stress herself out in making dinner.

She stared at the pot of Chinese noodles in disgust.

She hated the idea of eating outside and even her darling husband knew about this yet he decided to have his way.

The unmistakable sound of belch caught her attention.

She stared at Cole with disgust while he sat back and stared at her with a full blown grin.

"I need to ask you some questions and I need you to be honest"

"I'll answer those questions when you're done eating"

She sighed tiredly before picking up her fork.

She dug in and it wasn't long before she said she was finished.

Cole ate her leftovers while she drank a glass of water trying to wash away the fact that she just ate a plate of food she didn't cook.

"So what is it you wanna ask?"

"Do you have a brother?"

That took Cole by surprise but he didn't let it show.

He was good in hiding his emotions so this shouldn't be a problem.

"Yes"

"Is he your twin?"

This time Cole searched her face and found fear written all over her.

"Yes but it's been long since I saw him alive. He could be dead for all I know"

Emily wasn't at ease with that but she let it slide for the moment.

"What's a mate to your kind?"

Now Cole was shocked with this question and he didn't bother masking it.

"Why all this sudden questions? First my brother and now a mate?"

Emily bit her tongue and seemed hesitant but if she wanted a sincere answer from Cole she needed to be sincere as well.

Cole saw her hesitation and then he knew something was up.

Coming home early, proceeding to puke, running high temperature, the sweat, increased heart beat and now sudden questions about him and his kind.

"Emily tell me what's going on so I can help"

Emily told him not skipping any details.

As she related the story to her husband, it sounded more realistic to her and the fear increased.

Cole was silent for a moment just staring at the beautiful woman in front of him.

Thanks to her, he now knows that his twin brother is still alive and maybe his sister as well but that wasn't the point.

Emily was his and his alone.

Even his stupid useless twin brother wasn't going to take her for himself.

Cole stood up and walked towards her shaking figure.

He wanted to comfort her but that would mean touching her.

He found it hard to control himself nor his wolf whenever she was close not to talk of touching her but the fear in her eyes compelled him to do so.

So he did.

Her skin was just as soft as it looked and it took him everything he had to remain standing beside her.

"You're mine, Emily. And I'll protect you till my last drop of blood."

That did it.

The fear was no longer there just the way he had wanted it.

"And to answer your question about mate, it's just like having a life partner that has been chosen from above"

"Am I your mate?"

"Yes, of course. Why else will I propose to you? I don't believe in Stockholm syndrome, sweetheart"

Emily laughed already feeling at ease.

"Come on, let's go to bed"

She had a wide smile on her face that night but that didn't stop the uneasiness.

What about tomorrow? Will everything be fine? What about next week? Or next month?

Right now, she'll hold onto every single moment because she didn't know anything about the future.
