//In the future of an alternate dimension...//

Princess Twilight sat on her throne and watched different ponies and dignitaries come and go as the time passed.

It was many years since the disbandment of the Council of Friendship and despite her best wishes, she couldn't help but find her mind, more and more often turn towards some dark thoughts, wondering if it was all worth it?

She already came to terms with their death... She wasn't a child, but it was still painful and while her student was showing promise of one day taking on the mantle of a Princess, she felt like she might not be there to guide her when the time comes. Especially after her latest idea...

She didn't know why she felt so exhausted with everything...But as her eyes landed on a blueprint of an artifact she planned to create, she felt that it was the right thing to do...

It was a three pieced gemstone with one circular piece surrounded by a crystal in the shape of wings and with a last piece being an elongated crystal placed on the top which represented a horn...

Beside the crystal was a diagram of an alicorn with arrows connecting it to the crystal...

Twilight shudder but her hoof gently touched the picture.

"Soon my friends... We'll see eachother again..." She whispered.

Somewhere in a different part of Equestria, a certain hooded being walked down the street of the 'Changedling' kingdom.

Her hole littered hooves soon brought her into a shady bar on the outskirts of town.

A Changedling with an unusually dark carnation glanced at the being before nodding and opening a back door.

The being walked inside without a word of acknowledgement and as the doors closed behind her, she finally removed the hood.

Her disfigured body still apparent, with her bull horns and the single horn in the middle standing proudly, she asked.

"Is everything going right?" Her almost childishly high, yet slightly resonating voice, that didn't match her stature, asked into the darkness of the room where soon a number of beings revealed themselves.

They looked like Changelings...The original ones, But their bodies were misty and some of them had additional parts that shouldn't belong to their species.

They were the abominations created by merging her children Changelings with the abominable Umbrums. She really went above and beyond in the creation of her perfect minions...

"Brood Mother. Our spies report success. The hatred is being slowly spread. Just recently one of the devourers reported successfully aggravating Queen Nova as a Yak representative.

"And what of the Windigos? Were there any progress on their summoning? I wish to take their powers soon." Said the being who once upon a time called herself Cozy Glow...

"The uneasiness is slowly rising right under the Princess's nose. The measures we took in keeping her occupied in her grief worked without a hitch. The day of your triumph is going to come soon my Queen..." Said the creature with a hiss to the satisfaction of the being.

"Good...Soon...Soon Equestria shall be mine. With all the friendship gone I shall be the only one worthy of befriending! I shall take all the friendship... All the POWER! I shall take all that is mine and no one is going to stop me MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

//back in our world...//

Starfall woke up with a start, feeling a sense of déjà vu, as the confusing nightmare slowly faded from his memory.

Despite everything he could do regarding dream magic, it had still slipped from his grasp and he cursed his luck in his mind, filled with a suspicion that it was much more than just a simple dream. After all, he had been trying to experiment with Pinkie Pie's prophetic magic yesterday, with some lackluster results...

Seeing as there wasn't much he could do though, Starfall decided to just accept this small failure and went back to bed, snuggling in between his beautiful marefriends. Twilight and Little Strongheart had occupied his one side while the two Princesses of the night were currently opposite of the two, both drolling onto the pillow in a similar manner, showing how similar they were despite all the things that made them different.

It was at moments like this when you'd usually remember that the two pretty mares were defacto clones of eachother...

Starfall sighed and gave each of the sleeping girls a light peck before dozing back into sleep.

It had been a few days since they returned from Canterlot and the world seemed peaceful for the most part, if you disregarded the time-space fluctuations Starfall's sensors detected in the Frozen North, which indicated the soon to be re-emergence of the Crystal Empire.

Having nothing better to do for the time being, Starfall opted to spend his time on some leisure research and social interactions.

It was a calm and peaceful moment and Starfall enjoyed the simplicity of his day to day life by meeting with friends, taking his girls on their deserved dates or working on some of his less important projects without any pressure of a tight schedule nor an impending doom approaching any time soon...

Well...there was the part about another supervillain and an entire Kingdom or "Empire" about to appear after a thousand years of being thrown through time like Alduin... but he wasn't that worried about it. He knew they were going to be fine after all. Even if it's a test for Twilight, he'll be there to ensure nothing bad happened to anypony.

He was also eager to test his strength against King Sombra. Say what you want but he always considered him to be the coolest villain of the series, and it was a shame how he was always being bullied and vaporised in the end, before he could really show his battle proves...

But maybe it would be a good idea to check whether Sombra has the same origin story as in "FIENDship is magic" comic...They might as well get to reform him and save an important pony or two in the process if that was the case...That's of course only if there's any possibility that Radiant Hope is still alive, which is doubtful considering her lack of appearance in the show. But that would open a completely different can of worms. Starfall needed to find out which version was the real one otherwise he might create a villain by destroying another...

___________

The long white hallways resounded with the quick tapping of hooves as the white unicorn wearing a lab-coat and a pair of enchanted glasses with some useful sight amplification capabilities, run into one of his secret chambers, prompted by the red warning flashing on his left lens.

After two weeks of leisure, Starfall felt like he was becoming complacent, so he once again fell into his favourite routine of training and research.

Recently he reopened his research into dimensional travel and he was doing some good progress on understanding the problem of interdimensional magic destabilisation in the low magical worlds. That is to say, he had a better comprehension of what happens to a being saturated with too much magic in the world such as "Equestria girls"...

Though that didn't mean he had a way to lessen the burden on himself any time soon If he doesn't figure out a way to stop the "magical hiccups" from affecting his magic. As it stands he is going to turn into a power consumed demon with split consciousness like Midnight Sparkle the moment he steps through the mirror portal...

When it comes to original Twilight, she had the power of anime-*cough* magic of Friendship on her side, and actually had no way to resist the transformation effect of the mirror which technically sealed her magic. Had she actually knew how to control her magic on the inside like they knew right now, she might have also turned into a demon, although that's still doubtful considering the aforementioned magic of Friendship.

Starfall despite his connection with the Elements of Harmony and the small amount of the Magic of Friendship in his core he cultivated through the years, was not a bearer of an element so he lacked in that aspect when compared to his girls.

But beside his research into dimensional travel, Starfall had done one other thing, which, to his excitement and trepidation was the reason for his current rush through the Lab...

It was not difficult to build magical drones after he put in a bit of effort. Equipping each drone with a small magical generator to power up all the functions like levitation, invisibility, camera, and scanners, and then programming them through magic was surprisingly simple after Starfall put all his knowledge together and sat on it one evening, pulling an all nighter and finishing his creations in record time before sunrise.

And now his efforts had been rewarded, as his eyes fell on one of the screens in the room, the display showing an endless field of snow, with a single, large, crimson crystal, standing proudly right in the middle of the snow covered landscape, disregarding that the snow should have covered it completely a long time ago...

Starfall found the entrance to the prison of the Umbrums...
