Diary of a Nigerian teenager

Chapter 01

"Maami, I don't want it oh" I said amidst chuckles as I dragged my travelling box through the airport

"Ohhhh, I just sighted aunty Jane right now"

"I just left and you're already disturbing me with this your wahala" I said laughing as I walked up to aunty Jane

"Okay mum, I'll call you back"

"Aunty Jane,I've missed you so much" I hugged her and smiled as she patted me on the back

"Kelechi, you've grown ohhhh" she replied,i was surprised she hadn't lost her Yoruba accent, she's from my mom's side

"It's K.C now" I said imitating a British accent

" For your mind" she said laughing

"You've added weight though"

She was right, I had put on a little weight but people wouldn't really notice because of the size of clothes I put on.

"Wow" I exclaimed as we walked into the sitting room

"No 'honey I'm home'" I asked her

"I'm not married yet" she said so casually

"Why do you sound so u bothered about it??" I jumped into the sofa

"Cause..." she paused

"Don't worry about it" She said opening the fridge, I should probably stop asking about her love life

"So where do you work??" She passed me a juice box, I pierced with a straw

"An art gallery" I sucked the juice out through the straw

"You still attend church right??" I asked

" Ofcourse, what do you take me for??" She asked

" Before I forget" I walked to my box and picked up a plastic bag and carried it to the table

"What's that?"

"Garri, groundnut and most importantly suyaaaa!!" I squirmed in delight as I walked over to the cabinet and put the bag inside after removing the suya sha oh. That one was entering my belly right now

"You go chow??" I asked as I picked up a plate and a fork

"No oh, I'm vegetarian" I stopped in my track and looked her shocked

"No wahala nah" I replied

"No need for this thing" I threw the fork in the sink and used my hand to pick the meat from the newspaper

"Kelechi!" She exclaimed laughing

"What happen??" I asked with the suya in my mouth, forget that thing Biko

********************

"Kelechi be fast nau" I was so tired, I didn't even notice that a week had passed already, o had to go get registered at the school I got a scholarship into

"I'm here" I simply wore a black jeans and an orange top

"This your style of dressing sef" she started the engine as I jumped in to the car.

"Merissa calm down" I watched as a girl was ranting because a black girl mistakenly stepped on her foot. She kinda looked like Anna Faris from the sequel of scary movie which made me chuckle

"And what's so funny?" She asked me

"Me??" I asked looking sideways

"Who else would I be talking to??" She said flinging the magazine I was reading away

"Hey!" Aunty Jane stood up

"This isn't your daddy's sitting room"

"And who was talking to you??" Merissa pushed her down

" Aunty Jane, let me handle this" I stood up and gave Merissa a dirty slap

" Disrespectful white brat" I hissed before picking up my magazine

She just walked away looking like she was about to cry

" That's how you handle things please " I whispered to aunty Jane

" And sorry" I said flipping the page of the magazine.
