The Accountant

Setsuna Fujikara was born in the year 2021, her father a tech executive who was always at work or away from the house on some summit or god knows whatever. The burden of staying home and taking care of their daughter was thus placed on his wife Takena, who was the only one from her family extended and otherwise Setsuna ever had any interaction with until she was of schooling age. When Setsuna was five she was sent abroad to a boarding school, all the while her mother had found a new man and had run in with his friends who were involved in bad business. Setsuna never knew the type of business her mother and new boyfriend were involved in because she never received any letters from either mother or father. The child only received more funding from her father. She wouldn't find out about her mother's unfortunate passing until she was allowed to visit home at ten years-old.

That day as Setsuna left class and head outside to the snow-laden ground, she found her father Takao's old chauffer Yoshi standing with one of the company limousines. Setsuna discovered then that this was the day to change her life, and the moment she entered the limousine bound for Shinjuku was when the realization struck her that she wouldn't see this place again. It had taken the better part of a week until Setsuna had finally returned to Shinjuku, though not to the small house her mother had lived in but rather to her father's loft apartment. Takeo was cold and shrewd, informing the young girl in the most distasteful way imaginable for a father that her mother had passed on. He hadn't even the common courtesy of allowing her to grieve, instead informing Setsuna she'd be enrolled in her new school the next day. With tears streaming down her face and anger in her heart, Setsuna ran away and left the foyer for her new room.

The next day Takeo apologized for his behavior and told his daughter for once that he loved her though always holding a cold demeanor. Takeo wasn't a man of emotions but rather a man of actions as her new maid Nayase later explained to her, telling Setsuna that this was his way of showing emotions to his only child. Setsuna would come to love her maid Nayase like the mother she no longer had and would eventually come to understand her father as time went on through the next six years. At the age of sixteen years old Setsuna graduated with honors from her school as the salutatorian thanks to having skipped two grades when at her boarding school previously. Setsuna continued on through cram school for another year before finally accepting an invitation from Tokyo University. Setsuna went through school with a major in Business and a minor in Psychology; finally graduating at the age of twenty-three and bought a new car by her father Takeo as a gift.

Setsuna's first job after graduation was within her father's own Tech Firm, serving as an executive assistant getting paperwork and doing small jobs for the executive offices and board meetings and this job lasted all of two years before Setsuna wanted to get out on her own, sending her Resume' out into the working world. She'd get a bite back two months later just as her money was starting to wear thin. She went into the interview and aced it, hired as an accountant for the Tech Firm Yamanasuke Electronics. Instead of running errands she had graduated to taking care of the company's expenses and generating expense reports for the board of shareholders which was both far more demanding and far more gratifying in terms of work. Setsuna felt like she was finally out of her father's thumb.

As for Setsuna's interests; she read fantasy\romance novels especially ones about the vampiress dominatrix and the angel-turned-human, those types she really enjoyed. Setsuna also played a tabletop role-playing system called Sword World RPG and often enjoyed playing the warrior princess trope with her work friends usually playing the Fencer class when given a choice. She had even started playing the localized version of Dungeons and Dragons in a monster campaign where she got to play as a vampiress. Setsuna had fallen into the deep-end of escapism having wanted to escape from the reality of her mother's death and her father's domineering, even wanting to escape from work when the workload had gotten unbearable. She often daydreamed at work when having nothing to do, though unlike most who daydreamed she didn't do it wantonly and controlled when she daydreamed.

On this particular night, however, everything changed. Setsuna was trying to catch up on her work in the printing room, which stood on the first floor. She hadn't usually come down here instead preferring to take the private service elevator down to the parking garage rather than walking out through the first floor. Her office was also up on the fifth floor which was behind two security checkpoints and a number of armed guards as well as steel doors that could only be opened via biometric scans but today she actually had to go down into the printer room. That was when she heard the sound of someone running down the hall and the faint sound of an object piercing something and then gurgling. Setsuna peered out the door, noticing four figures lurking above the security checkpoint over a corpse wearing the usual security guard uniform. Setsuna almost gasped, pulling herself back into the printer room and making sure the door was locked before noticing the printer room door had no lock on it.

Setsuna pulled herself away and into the corner of the room, turning off the light as soon as she closed the door. She heard movement and so she quickly tapped on her smart watch and sent a call off to the local authorities. She heard ringing continuously four times in the ear implant before someone picked up with the usual 'this is emergency services what is your emergency' line. Setsuna took a moment to clear her mind then spoke in a soft cautioned tone. "Yes, uhh.. this is Setsuka. I'm in the office of Yamanasuke Electronics in Shinjuku, and I believe we've had a break in. I see four people, all men, in black shirts, black slacks, and black and red facemasks with red caps. I think I've seen one of them has a gun and I know at-least one has a knife if not more. I think they killed the night guard!"

"Thank you, Ma'am, I've sent your information to the police unit moving your way. They should be there in four minutes give or take a few for traffic. Please stay on the line until assistance arrives." retorted the operator on the other side of the communication line, however Setsuna had already pulled away from the receiver of her phone as the door into the printer room had now quickly opened and white beams of light, likely from a pair of flashlights, flooded into the room. Setsuna looked around, thankful that she had machines around her so she wouldn't be caught by the flashlights. Noticing that she was still quite vulnerable, Setsuka managed to catch the sight of a laundry chute in the corner of her eyes and crawled inching slowly towards it. She heard boots stomp on the ground from two men who had now entered the room which was ten feet by fifteen feet in circumference.

Setsuna reached the edge of the elevator when she saw the black boots of the invaders from the other table across. She quickly pushed herself into the laundry chute just as the two of them came into sight - though she could only see their boots and their black slacks up to their shins. She had made a little sound in her movements, holding her breath she just hoped this night would be over with so as she saw one of the two invaders start to look around she released a pent-up breath but then gasped and held her hands over her mouth. And that was when the second invader bent down, revealing his face and the pistol in his hand. Setsuna released a deep-pitched scream just as the gun fired the first time. By the end she had been shot three times and slumped to the floor of the chute. She was dead.
