40 Chapter 39

" You can do it, Paul!! "
" Don't lose James!! "
The crowd cheered for their favorite contestant as the competitors jumped away from each other.
They eyed each other as they activated their magic. Paul created a ball of fire in his right hand and shot it forward.
The ball of fire got bigger as rushed towards James. James quickly slammed his hand onto the ground and a wall made of earth appeared in front of him.
* boom *
The fireball collided with the wall, shattering it. Smoke covered the area as James kept an eye out for Paul.
He saw the smoke moving as he turned to his right, only to see a ball of fire flying past him. Eyes widened he turned to the left as he saw Paul right in front of his eyes.
Paul had his arms stretched out in the form of a bow while creating a fire arrow. Taking aim while James was shocked he got ready to fire.
* whoosh *
He missed as another James, came from the ground, and redirected the shot upward.
The extra James quickly dissolved and turned into mud and quickly wrapped around Paul. Clicking his tongue in annoyance Paul set himself ablaze and the fire burned through the mud.
Paul looked at James placed his hands on the ground.
Paul watched with widened eyes as the ground transformed into fists which rushed at him.
* bam *

* bam *
Paul got hit by multiple fists, straight into the ground as they didn't stop. Paul never had the chance to counter as he soon lost conscience.
" Paul is unconscience, meaning the winner of the finals is James!! " The announcer yelled.
The crowd erupted in cheers as everyone was yelling James over and over.
" Pretty impressive. " Lance said from his seat.
All the captains sat in their respective seats as they watched the match happen.
" Indeed. This competition showed many talented candidates who have developed their magic while others show a lot of promise. " Rose said with a small smile as she looked at the sea of students who came onto the arena.
" This method was clearly the right choice. Elden really changed the system. " Joker said with a smirk.
" So much has changed in 4 years. For the better though." Drake said.
" Well either way let's go. We have to choose new members for our squads. " Drake said excitedly.
The other captains smiled as they got up from their seats and walked out of the room.
4 years have passed since that fateful day. After Elden became king he implemented changes to the kingdom.
One of the many things he made for the kingdom was technology from earth. Alternate power sources being one of them.
Hydroelectric power plants, wind turbines, solar panels e.t.c, Elden brought into this world as the diamond kingdom advanced.
The builders have the diamond kingdom were astonished and very much interested. They started building right away while Elden made changes to the economy as well.
Soon the kingdom became similar to cities on earth except without the multitude of pollution caused by cars, trucks, and other sources. However, Elden decided to not make cars or any other vehicles for a while.
Along with the change comes the concept of magic school. Yes. Magic schools. Elden made a system where children could go to school and choose their careers.
School started from the age of 4 and up till the age of 12 for the first half. Subjects include the basics along with business, economics e.t.c and the most popular magic lessons.
Magic lessons involve helping children learn about magic and teach them. It includes lessons on control, elements, history, and much more.
Once children reach the age of 12 they have the choice to choose. Whether to continue studying magic to eventually became a magic knight or go down a different career all together like a business.
This system was favorable to everyone as the children became excited. Magically gifted children could become magic knight s and follow that dream while children who aren't magically gifted could choose another route to survive in society.
The other kingdoms didn't interfere with the diamond kingdom at all for a while as they didn't really see them as a threat.
However, once Elden started to make changes they learned from rumors that were passed on by travelers. The spade kingdom were the ones who tried to infiltrate the kingdom using spies.
However, their spies were soon silenced and were returned in a box. Their body parts were cleanly cut and packed neatly inside. Arms, legs, upper and lower body, stomach, kidney, intestines, head with their brains visible.
Since then they stopped trying as they became quiet. Elden knew they were planning something to destroy the kingdom and made plans.
The heart kingdom didn't mind as they stayed away from the diamond kingdom. The clover kingdom though sent the most messages.
The messages though were mainly from Julius himself as he kept pressuring Elden if he could come to visit to observe the kingdom.
Elden denied the request as he didn't want anyone to come. That and he didn't feel like dealing with Julius running around looking at everything and causing trouble.
Elden sat on top of the school building as he looked at the selection of new recruits for the magic knights.
" This is the third year the selection is happening. Everything is going well. Plot however will start soon do soldering of the magic knight exam in the clover kingdom will happen in a month.
Well then seems like I'll have prepared myself. I could be dragged into the bullshit of the clover kingdom before dealing with the space kingdom or I just have to deal with the space kingdom.
Either way shits about to go down. Things will be interesting from now on. " Elden muttered with a smile.
