Chapter 57: Color of Sunset

It took over a month for Mr. Wang to recover after weeks of being slumped in the empty house. It had nothing but himself.

There was no wife or child or anyone to comfort him.

He expected that things were already going awry for him outside as the rumors about him and Chu Hua spread. He's well aware of how he lashed out that night, how he made himself a fool in front of everyone, and how stupid he felt then.

When he was able to calm down, he wandered for some time with nothing on his head.

He bought groceries and cooked food for himself, watched funny shows, and drank beer.

Soon, it felt like his heart was turning into stone and the fight that night seemed so distant that it might not matter if he would come to it face to face. While exploring the flower fields away from the plaza, Mr. Wang saw the woman once again.

She isn't radiating as she was before, but her skin was still pale, her lips and nose are still slender, and her eyes are still pretty.

When their eyes met, Chu Hua didn't ignore him this time. She beckoned him with a serious face and when they were in front of each other, she smiled.

'It wasn't for me anymore,' He thought to himself.

He could tell the difference between her smile back then and what it meant right now.

"Do you remember when we were kids?" She asked with a soft and gentle voice. "When we got lost in someplace and met and we both fell in love?"

"…I remember."

"I found that place again. I think it was on the fifth month you were in the battlefield, I stumbled on that place again."

He nodded, not knowing where this was going.

Chu Hua held his hand. "Let's go over there right now. Just… one last time."

"Alright."

They went through the alleyways and blocks around the village, which are all too familiar to both of them.

Mr. Wang could vaguely remember himself passing through these routes. When they arrived at the place, it wasn't as desolate and empty anymore. A lot of things change.

People are flocking over the once abandoned area and the sunset glow doesn't belong to them anymore.

What once belonged to their little world as children innocently getting lost and falling in love, faded into a distant, irreversible moment.
