Perfect Amulet

Beatrice obediently followed beside him while continuously stealing glances at his necklace. Catching her staring, Vergil put the necklace inside his shirt to avoid her prying eyes.

"Talk" Vergil was still a miser for words. He would disdain saying more than he absolutely must.

Getting the hard earned chance she jumped at the opportunity.

"First of all, I don't know who you are. I only saw your necklace which I think is a bit familiar to me. Where did you get it?"

Naturally Vergil ignored her question.

"Where did you see it?" Virgil thought that she might have seen his brother Dante's piece.

"I read about it in a book. It was fragmented knowledge but I can tell for sure that it belonged to the great Demonic General Sparda. Aaiieeee...It's the Perfect Amulet." Beatrice said in a shrill voice that kept on increasing in pitch along with her rising excitement.

She looked nothing like the graceful beauty from before. She was more akin to a passionate fan trying to jump her idol.

Although Virgil didn't trust her, he needed to know everything about the amulet, so he took it off his neck and handed it over. She pounced on it as if she was afraid that he would change his mind.

She gazed at the necklace unable to believe that she was holding it in her hand. She ran her fingers over the amulet to feel each and every contour. She tried to look professional as if she had been trying to ascertain whether the amulet was fake or not.

But in reality she was already sure of it from the moment her gaze landed on it for the first time. The amulet had called out to her; she had already sensed the terrifying magical fluctuations coming from the amulet.

Seeing her act as if he wasn't here, Virgil grew impatient and ordered her to continue with the story threateningly.

"Hooh...what an impatient man." retorted Beatrice furiously.

"It's a pity that the perfect amulet is incomplete. It is only one of the two pieces. There is another half and only with it can the amulet be used for its true function which is to awaken The Force Edge."

"What's the force edge?" Virgil maintained his cold façade on the outside but he was actually dying to know what it was.

"It seems as if I am the only one answering questions. I have some too. And at least you can try not to look so cautious even if you don't trust me."

Zach ignored her rant as if he hadn't heard it at all.

"Fine don't trust me but can you please take off that hood and let me have a look at your face. I feel like I am talking to some vengeful ghost." complained Beatrice still looking down and stroking the amulet like a mother caressing her child lovingly.

Virgil felt it was okay to so and removed his hood. He ran his fingers through his smooth grey hair to push the long stray hair away from his sparkling blue eyes. The grey hair and his pale white skin should have given him a ghastly appearance. But it only made him look more fragile and precious like some porcelain doll.

Beatrice looked taken aback at first but then an excited light flashed through her eyes. She immediately hid her excitement and pretended to blush as she moved her face away from Virgil like a shy little girl who hadn't seen such a sight before.

Unfortunately, Virgil either could not see through her scheme this time or did not care enough to reveal the slightest change in his expression.

She patted her cheeks and seemed to be mustering courage in order to continue speaking.

"Now it's my turn to ask questions." Beatrice showed how assertive she could be.

"What is your name and how are you related to Sparda?"

"What's it to you?"

"It is very important to me since I have already fallen for you. I have never seen a man as beautiful as you. The second I looked at your precious face, sparkling eyes and your ash grey hair, I knew I was a goner," said Beatrice cunningly.

She already had a vague idea about his identity but she wanted to be sure.

It was then that Vergil knew his hair and eyes had given him away. In a city full of fanatics, he was bound to stand out if he had the hair color matching that of their savior. He grinded his teeth together and asked her to reiterate the question she had asked.

"I want to know if you are Sparda's descendant. Although I am about ninety percent sure, I want to hear it from you so you can't deny it later." her tone had turned solemn and serious from the previously joking and seductive one.

Seeing her acting so serious all of a sudden, his grip on his words got loose and he unconsciously replied "He is my fath…"

He hurriedly tried to stop midway as soon as he found the trap she had laid for him. But the cat was already out of the bag by then.

"It's no use hiding anymore. I am pretty sure you are his son; I have been trying to find his traces since I was young. I know you are trying to do the same since you are here...in Fortuna." her voice was full of confidence because she had managed to find his biggest secret despite being in a lower position.

"How are you so sure that I am here for him? I could just be here for sightseeing."

"Because I was the same as you, I came here 3 years back while following the same path as you and ended up joining the order in my desperate search for more information. Being your senior in this struggle, let me offer you an advice. You are wasting your time here and risking your life as well." Beatrice sighed grudgingly.

"The ones in this city will recognize you in a single glance if you were to show your face in front of them. They have already been researching how to create demons. A half-demon like you will surely make for a very interesting specimen if you want to be stubborn and want to try anyway. I won't stop you."

"I assume you have a solution since you are taking so much pain to explain to me the consequences of going to the order." A slight smile escaped his lips as they curved upward slightly. It was both devilish and alluring at the same time.

"I do have the perfect solution but it is going to cost you and don't you dare think of coaxing it out of me by force. I would rather die than tell you. I am just as desperate as you are and am willing to go to any lengths to get what I want." threatened Beatrice with a feral look on her face.

"Since I am going to pay, I should know what I am paying for. Don't you think?" Virgil maintained his icy demeanor and stared at her with a gaze that cut into her like swords.

"Before I came here, I found a certain man who is even more obsessed and knowledgeable about Sparda than I am. He was certain that he had found the way to The Force Edge and the Temen-ni-gru, an unholy tower constructed by demon worshippers in an effort to tear down the veil between the underworld and the human world. Sparda was the one who sealed that tower and to obtain Sparda's power it has to be unsealed. I know where you can find him and you can find all that power that you desire."

"How is it that you are so sure; that what I am after is power?"

"Don't bother asking, it is written all over your face. I told you already that you are acting just like me when I started out on this journey."

"Then why are you telling me all this when you can work with that guy and achieve your life's goals," asked Virgil who was now slightly curious.

"The person I am talking about lacked certain ingredients to unseal the tower. One of them is Sparda's blood. As you can see I can light up the path to your destiny but in return you have to fulfill my wishes as well."

"What do you want in exchange for that information?"

In that instant her eyes widened to the limit and became bloodshot, "I want YOU, your "seed" to be specific. I want Sparda's bloodline to flow through my descendants."

The streak of madness hidden deep inside her had started to show only slightly before she hid it away. She had to maintain the façade until he agreed to her demand.

Vergil was slightly repulsed at what she was suggesting but seeing as she wasn't bad looking he did not think it was entirely impossible.

Still he needed to know her reasons behind such a demand.

"Why do you need my bloodline specifically?"

"Originally I wanted to take Sparda's power for myself but seeing as you are here, I have decided to leave that opportunity for you as it should be yours to begin with. I am compromising on the method but the end result is the same for me."

Beatrice paused to take a breath and then continued, "I come from one of the four noble families of Fortuna. My family is a staunch believer of Sparda and only by getting his power can I hold absolute dominion over my family; but that was before I met you. Now I have another method which is that I can continue the bloodline of Sparda through my children bringing honor to my family."

"So, what will it be Son of Sparda?" inquired Beatrice in a slightly teasing tone.

"Virgil…..My name is Virgil"
