3 Chapter 3: The System

Hakoniwa Academy. Although it isn't known as the number one academy in the entire country, the school is still well known and outstanding that it is in the top three of schools in Japan for any adolescent to enroll and educators to work at.

The reason why the school is so well known is, in exception to the mouth watering wage for the staff members, because most of the staff and teachers are...eccentric and willful; mainly because of their motto and classification for its students.

Hakoniwa Academy puts a heavy emphasis on student independence. Therefore, the majority of the academy's organizations are student run and most of the time you'd find it hard to find a teacher in school grounds except during classes.

Also, the board of Hakoniwa Academy is passionate about education, and therefore gives out many scholarships. One in every ten students at the Academy has a scholarship. Tuition fees are waived, and students are given every possibility to advance their skills with ease. Most of the students had enrolled due to it.

Lastly, Hakoniwa Academy's student body is divided into three years: freshmen, juniors, and seniors. Each of those is then divided into thirteen classes.

Moreover, students are divided into two categories: normal and special. Normal students are those with average grades, character, and personality. They have nothing special about them. Simply put, they're the mob characters.

As for the special students, they are students who stand above the normies. Unlike the normal students, special students have the ability to excel in a specific area of expertise, examples are: swimming, basketball, running, kendo, etc. and at a terrifying level at that!

Classes 1 through 4 are standard classes. Classes 5, 7, and 9 are physical education classes. Classes 6 and 8 are arts classes. Class 10 is the special standard class, Class 11 is the special physical education class, and Class 12 is the special arts class. Normals are placed in the first nine classes, Specials are placed in classes 10 through 12, and Class 13 is reserved exclusively for certain types of students like Medaka.

As for what type they are? Zenkichi didn't know at the moment, the school rules or the enrollment pamphlet certainly didn't explain it.

That was all what he had learned for the last few weeks since the original had started studying here, having to eavesdrop, although reluctantly, from a lot of students gossiping to their circle of friends or just being loudmouths and told off to others either out of boredom or trying to incite some chaos.

"I heard most of them out of the latter..." Zenkichi said to himself with twitching lips, as a certain figure came to thought.

He shook his head. He should really stop monologuing to himself, it was a habit of the original but he didn't feel comfortable talking about the story of his life to himself like some weirdo.

'Its not like anyone else would hear me. And I'm pretty sure I don't wear a red and black skin suit use a pair of katanas and guns.'

"Please proceed to the auditorium for congratulating and listening the 98th student council president while maintaining an orderly conduct." Zenkichi snapped out of his imagination and turned his head to the side to see two students, a male and female, both wearing completely white uniforms unlike the common school uniform.

His eyes narrowed as he spotted weapons, police batons and tasers to be exact, on them and a badge

'Enforcers, huh. Basically the police force of the school. Considered to stand equal in both strength and authority to the student council but that should have been a few years ago. Now, due to various reasons, the enforces have now surpassed the latter by a large mile.'

'I never thought I'd see them help advertise the new student council president. Well, I'm not so surprised when the academy advocates independence for the students and that there's only one person in the student council currently.' Though, seeing people his age acting like true police officers made him wonder if the school's methods of letting students manage the facilities on their own makes them great educators or they're just plain lazy.

Though it is still genius, as they use students as free labor; just like any other school in the world but they do it in a more subtle way then most.

'The enforcers should be the student council's rival and there are other committees that can help out with this... but I guess they're just doing this because it's their responsibility to keep order in the school grounds, especially during special events and other stuff like this.' Zenkichi nodded towards the enforcer students in greeting and started heading towards the auditorium.

Just as he took a step into the building...

[System reloading...]

[Synchronization between the user's soul and body has reached 100% completion.]

[Recalibrating...Bzzt!! The system has sensed the inner desire of the user to become someone greater than anyone else. As the system's purpose is to help the user, then protocol "Overlord" will be initiated.]

[Loading file... Ding! File has been uploaded into the server, protocol "Overlord" has been initiated.]

[Recalibrating the user's fate with the world's laws... Success! User's fate has been successfully altered and his path could no longer be predicted. Your future is for you to choose and create.]

[Ready Player One?]

"Uh... Yes?" Zenkichi was a bit dumbfounded at what was happening right in front of his face and subconsciously answered back to the question.

[Hello user, and welcome to your personalized system. I am called, the "Lottery System".]

"What the..." Zenkichi finally snapped back to reality and stared in disbelief, his eyes widened, at the floating green screen in front of his face.

'A system? Holy shit, is this like that cheat from "I reincarnated as a slime"?'

Zenkichi, or his past life, although he couldn't recall much of it, he could still somewhat remember that he was never that much invested in watching anime, reading manga and light novels like an otaku but he did see a few animes and manga short videos when YouTube recommended him stuff to watch when he was bored.

Though he did watched classics like Dragon Ball, One Piece(only a few dozen episodes, he was not going to watch the entire one thousand fucking episodes), Fairy Tail, Naruto, Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist, Inuyasha, etc., back when he was a kid cause they were airing on TV, though he could barely remember what their plot now that he's older.

But the only new animes he knew of were the ones recommended to by YouTube: Attack on Titan, I reincarnated as a Slime, Date A Live, SpyxFamily, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Uzaki-chan wants to hang out, Redo of Healer( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), Kaguya-sama Love is War, etc.

So watching I reincarnated as a slime, Zenkichi has a bit of knowledge on how to work this system of his...probably.

"System..." He said with a whispering voice, not wanting for anybody around him to hear him and think he had a screw loose in his head for talking out loud.

[Hello user, how may I help you?]

"What are your functions? Also, can I just communicate with you in my head or something?" He didn't want other people to think he was going crazy or something.

Or is he...?

[The Lottery System's functions are quite simple, user. It has two functions: one shows your "status", which is self-explanatory as it simply shows your name, body, mind and soul's state and shows as well as your abilities or skills. Which brings us to the second function, that makes the core part of the system, your first and current ability yet: Lottery.]

[Lottery is an ability that gives the user the chance to get a random prize at a certain selected location by the user, which said location is used as the prize pool; anything in the location is a prize; whether it be skills like Judo Mastery, Basketball Mastery, Swimming Mastery, etc. and other stuff like money, bag, notebook, etc. The system will copy them from the original and give it to you!]

[But like any lottery, unless you have some divine ability to rig it, you gotta have great luck to win the big prizes or you'll go home crying with some common item or none at all. This ability could only be used once a day.]

'Oh sweet baby Jesus.' Zenkichi's eyes light up like it was christmas, his hands clenched on his knees, and he could hardly contain his excitement from getting out.

When he gets home, he swears that he'll start screaming out in happiness!

An ability! A supernatural ability! Although he couldn't fire out fireballs, cast lightning bolts, or teleport around and manipulate time, and that this ability of his is very limited to certain conditions, but he at least had an ability that could steal or copy others' abilities or items whenever he wanted!

Think of all the shit he'd get...

Imagine, going into a bank...

"Wait, what about the material prizes? Do they just appear right in front of me?"

[Do not worry user, they first get sent into the inventory prize box and the user gets to decide whenever he takes them out. Also, as a precaution, the user cannot use the inventory to store any other object aside the prizes he'd won.]

[As for the second question of the user earlier, yes, you can just communicate with me without speaking out loud. Think of it like telepathy, but only between us.]

'...Do you hear me right now?' Zenkichi tried out speaking to his system internally.

[Yes user, loud and clear.]

'Sweet!' He smiled. Zenkichi was really excited and happy with the system that he got because with it, he could finally have the chance to step out of the shadows of Medaka and go beyond her.

Even if it were a slim chance, not even reaching 1%, he'll still take it and work further step by step to achieve his goal.
