15 Military genius

After another breakfast, Artys paid another visit to the small industrial district where he checked on the progress of the irrigation pipes. Things were going well and really all he had to do at this point was wait for production to be complete.

Its workforce was already exhausted in the production of weapons, armor and irrigation pipes; at this point, there was no way to increase your workload to produce more projects. It wasn't until the irrigation pipeline was finished that he would see more peasants enter the industrial sector. After all, with the innovation fully implemented, there was no longer the need for so many farmers to water their crops manually, and they would need a new occupation. Most would be delegated to the mines, while others would work in the factories.

It wasn't a glamorous life, but they would get a fair wage under Artys' management.

After checking the progress of his industrial sector, he went to train the recruits. Artys had selected some veterans of the peasant population who had served in previous wars as recruits to serve as an officer class.

Artys supervised daily tactical training as much as possible to correct any mistakes. As such, he needed to lead the growth of his unit personally.

He was also preparing recruits for ambushes, Artys started calling them in the middle of the night and engaged in an "emergency meeting". A whistle sounded in the middle of the night, representing a night attack by the enemy. All personnel should be dressed, armed and assembled in front of the barracks within a few minutes.

He did this to train soldiers to deal with enemy night attacks. In many cases, night attacks by small-scale troops will cause serious disturbances and even the collapse of the attacked army.

The reason is really quite simple - in the middle of the night, everyone can't see the situation from a distance. Once attacked, they don't know how many enemies there are, or even who the enemy is and in what direction. Once panicked, fear spreads. Once the fear spreads, it can cause the army to collapse. So, regardless of how many enemy troops there are, the soldiers will run away and even run over each other.

So Artys demanded that even if they were attacked at night, it was absolutely forbidden to make loud noises, to prevent the spread of fear. Everybody being silent, it's easy to calm down. Also, having everyone not speak a word would make it easy for the officers to speak. Once the battle line is formed, the troops' hearts will stabilize and they will be able to counterattack.

It took a while for the recruits to get used to it. Most of the time, they were fast asleep, and then the whistle would suddenly sound. They heard the whistle and had to get up from the warm blankets and get dressed quickly, then grab their weapons and gather at the barracks door. If they were late, they were punished.

His second-in-command of the army was a hedge knight, who had chosen to settle in Runestone to rest after many years of war.

The hedge knight, Ser Julius Cromwell, lived in Runestone for nearly five years, essentially as a beggar and drunk during that time. He had a keen eye for strategy and tactics and it wasn't until he saw the recruits and their tactics in training that he decided to turn his life around and go talk to Artys.

As an old, grizzled veteran, Ser Julius had many insights to which he could contribute. After talking to Artys he offered the young lord his own rusty sword in fealty. After hearing the old veteran's story, Artys appointed him his second-in-command over the troops. Artys spent many hours writing a military treatise on his vision of the future of war and the weapons, strategies, tactics, and logistics necessary to conduct it, and after signing a contract with Artys, Ser Julius practically treated that text as a holy book, and the more he read of Artys' vision, the more he believed that the young lord was a military genius. Although Artys was by no means a military genius, he was just using his past life knowledge.

Ser Julius did not disappoint Artys' expectations; the man in his mid-forties had quickly grasped everything he had taught him and was not simply following the book but effectively improvising when necessary. If anything, He was the true military genius.

So Artys spent his time, every day overseeing the training of soldiers and the development of their projects in Royce lands. And finally the time has come to start your military campaign against the clans.
