Deus Project: False God

*This novel is an action novel with a female lead, not a romance one.* Gods are beings of belief. They have existed since time immemorial. When humans created fire, they were there. When humans waged wars on each other, they were there, just observing. They were supposed to be omniscient watchers, spectating, but not doing anything That changed about 5 decades ago. They went from spectators to antagonists, going on genocides left and right, and creating chaos all around. Humanity was somehow able to keep it in control. Most governments agreed to keep this a secret in order to avoid mass panic, and collaborated to create a secret project: Project Deus. The end of gods. I was going on a plane for a vacation, before everything came crashing down, quite literally. The life that I knew of, the life of Cecilia Carpenter, was no longer there. All that was left were the ashes. It was my first encounter with gods, and it certainly wasn't my last. I vowed to kill the god that murdered my family, even if it was the last thing I would do. But that wasn't the end to my troubles. As time went own, my eyes stopped feeling like my own, and the new people around me started saying I reminded them of a god day by day... As I got more and more concerned about my eye, I tried to learn about the intricacies of gods and their remnants. But curiosity kills the cat...

Chapter 6: A Cranky Roommate

I got up and went out of the room. The door opened surprisingly easily, and I was greeted by Daphne, who seemed to be waiting for me. After coming out of the room, I started noticing the red aura surrounding her too. It was incredibly dim, almost non-existent, but it was still present nonetheless.

"Damn, you actually survived that?", she said, sounding genuinely surprised.

"Yeah, and it wasn't that hard too. Why were you making it sound like I wasn't going to survive that?", I asked.

"Because the people who got interrogated before you ended up being escorted on a stretcher.", she said, going down the hallway. "Follow me".

"It wasn't that bad. I mean…", my voice trailed as I saw her expression. She looked like as if she was about to collapse in exhaustion.

"I wonder why that rat bastard let you off easy.", I heard her mumbling.

"What did you just say?", I asked, even though I knew exactly what she said.

"Nothing. Anyway, here are the keys. Your room is uh…", she said looking at the room key. "231. I'll get you there. Oh yeah, you also have a roommate.", she said.

"What's her name?", I asked, even though I knew she wouldn't answer.

"She'll introduce herself.", she said, stopping at a door.

I didn't realize it while walking through the hallway, but the place's aesthetic changed completely. This area looked somewhat habitable now. The walls were still metal, but they were now spray-painted white. It did look quite out of place, but it was still better than the bleak metal plating. The door in front of me was still a metal door, but it wasn't as big as the director's office one.

It had a gold-colored plate stuck on it, which said "231". The door itself didn't have any recolors.

Daphne banged on the door. The noise sounded like two tractors colliding, and it got the job done. A girl opened the door. She looked tired, sleepy and slightly pissed off.

"Who the fuck is doing this in the middle of the- oh it's you Daphne.", she said, looking at me. Her sleepy eyes widened, as she could immediately tell what was going to happen. "Don't tell me…"

"Yup this is your new roommate, say hi.", Daphne said, as if to piss her off more than she already seemed to be.

"I thought a new roommate was going to transfer here TOMORROW. Not today in the middle of the night you goddamn psychopath."

"Well, what? You want her to sleep on the floor or something?"

"Yeah. Tell her to sleep outside, not my problem now, is it?", she asked looking around me.

"Huh that's funny", Daphne said, like as if she was having the time of her life. "I don't recall giving you a choice."

"Argh… alright, get it. Take your luggage and just drop it near- wait a minute. Where is your luggage"

"Uh… how do I put this…", I said awkwardly.

The girl started to look mortified. "Oh no."

"Yup, you guessed it. She doesn't have any luggage.", Daphne chuckled.

"… Please tell me you are joking.", she said, sounding more than just pissed off.

"Sharing is caring after all. Enjoy your new roommate!", Daphne said gleefully.

"Uh… hi?", I said, feeling as if I was being a burden.

She looked at me like as if she wanted to kill me. "Yeah, hi, just take a shower and let me sleep."

"What's your name?", I asked, ignoring her cranky attempt to be rude.

"Let's just get over this.", I heard her mutter. "My name is Maria… what's yours"

"Cecilia"

"Alright then, come in Ms. Cecilia, it is like 1 in the morning, just sleep in the other bed and don't disturb me, alright?", she said, after which she immediately went back to her bed.

I couldn't see the room very well because it was quite dark. I didn't know where the lights were, and even if I did, turning them on would probably piss off the sleeping beauty in the room.

There was one thing I was able to observe in the darkness, which was honestly quite surprising. It had a window. I got up and opened the window to see if it was an actual window. Yup. It was a real window.

I wanted to ponder about how there was a real window in a bunker, but I felt sleepy enough as is. I headed to take a shower and sleep.

That girl… something was wrong with her on a very fundamental level. Her aura seemed closer to that of a god's than that of a human's. I had never seen a nihilist aura that… water-like, come from a human before.

Was it possible for her to be an undercover remnant or god? Definitely possible. The gods were definitely planning something, and she could be part of their little plan.

Then should I torture her to get information? No… it was still too early to tell. There was still the chance of her just being a human after all. I was also curious as to why her aura was like that of a remnant's, so naturally, why would I waste such valuable information for no reason?

What could a person do with the power of a remnant? That's a question I had always asked myself. And here I had the best possible test subject.

I thought of all of these as I was arranging all the documents scattered around my desk. That's when I heard a knock at the door. "Come in", I said.

"Hey there director.", I heard Daphne say.

"… Why are you here?"

"Come on, I can't even meet my own director? I just wanted to give my dear director a word of thanks!", she said sarcastically.

"Just get to the damn point.", I said, mildly annoyed. Honestly, I really wanted to transfer this brat somewhere else, but her talent was extremely useful, so I didn't have much of a choice in that matter

"Alright, alright. First, we found two suitcases near the plane crash. I was about 2 kilometers away from the plane crash, indicating they were thrown out before the plane crashed. I suspect it might belong to Cecilia."

"I see. Do we have both suitcases?"

"Yes."

"Then break the locks and give them to her. If it isn't hers, then she will return it back.", I said, going back to writing. "Anything else?"

"Second, while treating her, I noticed there was a large amount of nihilism around her eyes. I suspect she might have already unlocked her talent."

"… Really?", I said, pausing my writing. Already? I was getting more and more curious about her by the second. A talent usually unlocks after a good 3-6 months, and this girl did it in 2 days. Was my theory of her being a part remnant really true?

"Yes."

"There was a sighting of remnant damage near XXX district, right?"

"… Yes", she said. "He can't possibly be thinking of sending her into an investigation already, right?", I heard her mumble to herself

"Who is her roommate?"

"Maria Sanchez."

Maria eh? Might as well send her too. Her talent wasn't very good, although it was pretty versatile, and at this point she desperately needed experience. Two birds one stone.

"Alright then, Cecilia will be accompanying Maria, while the two get dispatched to investigate the damage and remnants. They will be accompanied by David.", I said.

David was pretty strong, and could probably handle the entire investigation on his own. This was just a test to see the girl's capabilities, so I needed someone decently strong, and reliable.

"… Yes sir.", she said.

"You are now dismissed.", I said.

She headed out of the door, and I was left alone with my documents.

This was going to be a long night.
