CHAPTER 24

Raine and Leora had always been good friends since their childhood days even till they became adults but things started to go wrong when Leora was about to get married.

During a ball some years back, Raine and Leora were yet to get married so they attended the ball together for possible suitors as their parents had been urging them to get married. Raine knew Leora was not the type to mingle with men as she was the shy type.

"Just try to talk and maybe you will find someone that interests you." Raine urged her.

"I will be back." She said. Leora nodded.

Raine had spot a man in blue suit, he was looking regal. His white hair was trimmed and was partitioned from the left side.

The left side of his hair was combed back, leaving the other part of his hair to fall on his forehead.

His nose was sharp and he had a strong jaw. He was talking to someone, when he felt the gaze of someone on him. He tuned his black orbs to look at the person staring at him.

Raine almost forgot how to breathe.

'He's so beautiful.' She muttered.

He eyes wandered to his face and studied all his features. His pointed ears did not diminish his handsomeness.

For Raine, it was love at first sight.

After the ball, Raine got to find out that he was the Lord's son. She immediately told her parents about it. Her parents were shocked at first.

"Are you sure he is the one you like?" Her father asked her.

"Yes father." She replied. "Okay. I and your mother will go and see his parents tomorrow." Her father replied. "Thank you father." She said happily.

"Anything for you my dear." He said. That night Raine could not sleep properly as she kept on thinking about the man she saw at the ball.

As promised by her father he went to see the Lord with his wife. They got there and the butler led them to the study room. He had already asked the maids to get refreshments for the guests. "My Lord will be with you shortly." The butler informed them. "No problem."

The butler then left to do his things. After a while, the Lord and his wife came in. His wife was a beautiful woman with white hair which Wilfred acquired from her. Mr. and Mrs. Harris, Raines parents stood up and bowed to greet the Lord and his wife.

The lord nodded, "Please sit." He said. They sat down. "And to what do I owe this visit?" The Lord questioned. "I apologize for the unexpected visit my lord but I believe it concerns the lives of both our children." Mr. Harris said. He then explained his reasons for coming.

The lord was happy and he told them that his son had informed them about it also. As they were talking the Lord's son brought in some people. The people in the room were confused as to what was going on. Wilfred then explained to clear the confusion. It turned out that, when Raine thought he was looking at her Wilfred was looking at another person who was behind her making it seem as if Wilfred was looking at her.

Mr. and Mrs. Harris explained to their daughter that she can't get married to the Lord's son. She was so angry because she had seen him first. She hated Leora for taking all the good things away from her. Anytime they went out together, Leora would always be noticed first.

Some months later, Wilfred and Leora were married. Raine was so jealous and angry but she still attended the wedding. Leora at that time didn't know what caused their relationship to turn sour. Leora finally found out and thought to speak Raine about it but Raine had brushed her off, saying it was fine. But their relationship didn't go back to the way it was.

After their breakfast, Lord Wilfred left for his study as someone was waiting for him there. "Greetings my Lord." A man greeted as Lord Wilfred entered the room. "How was the celebration Samuel?" The lord asked.

"It was fine my Lord and l have good news." Samuel said. "And what might that be?" The Lord asked.

"I found her." Samuel said.

"Not sure we are on the same page here." Lord Wilfred answered. "Have you forgotten my Lord? The chosen one?" Samuel asked. Lord Wilfred's eyes widened.

"And are you sure it's her?" He asked. "I am sure of it."

"That is in fact good news." Lord Wilfred commented. It was good news because the chosen one could finally reverse the curse placed on all the empires.

Lord Wilfred had heard from Samuel that the reason why they could not find his daughter was because of the curse. One would be wondering why Samuel was the only one that knew all these things.

Samuel comes from the family of the seers and he was the last descendant. Samuel was the only person that recognized the chosen one. After the calamity that befell their empires some years back, all the memories of that period completely vanished. One would have thought that after what had happened back then, they should be constantly reminded of what took place but that was not the case.

Samuel was the one to explain to the council members and the four Lords of the empires as they were the only ones they were aware of what happened. The people in the town had no idea that something like that took place.

"So what is the next thing to do?" Lord Wilfred asked. "I have to go back to Verdia." Samuel said.

"Very well then." And the lord nodded.

They discussed a few other things before Samuel excused himself.

Back in Verdia, in the Lord's mansion. Lily was in the study room with her governess, Sophia.

Sophia was already tired of the little girl who would only nod or shake her head and not speaking a word.

If not for her plans, to get together with the Lord, she would not have chosen to become a governess and that too, to a mute child even though she comes from a family of governesses.

Sophia was looking at the little girl play the piano as she had asked her, when the door was opened revealing the Lord of Verdia. Sophia sat there dumbstruck, forgetting her manners, she snapped out of her trance and immediately stood up to bow to the Lord.
