Mental Training

After Darius finally finished his exercise, Crawford gave him some refreshments through magic.

When Darius finished, Crawford informed him that it was time to start training his psychic power.

They were still in the middle of the forest.

MC POV

My grandfather told me that we will begin training my mental shields.

"Tell me, Darius, what do you know of the mind itself?"

There are many ways I can answer this question. Personally, I see it as a storage room for memories and allows us to think and feel.

I then remembered a quote from Harry Potter. This quote was said by Snape, who I was disappointed in as he had a lot of potential, but his love for Lily Potter held him back.

This was one of the reasons why I don't like to act on emotion as it may lead me to make fatal mistakes.

"The mind is not a book that, to be opened at will and examined at leisure. The mind is a complex and many layered thing.

My grandpa nodded at my answer.

"You are correct, Darius. The mind is a complex thing, at least most minds are. Some minds are just easy to read, like your sister Evie."

"Now then, let's start with your training. Ready."

I nodded, and then I felt an immense headache, and I fell to the ground.

My head was starting to burn with pain, as I felt my mental shields slowly starting to break. And then it shattered, and my mind was defenceless.

But still, I pushed back. After a few seconds, the pain stopped. "You really do have a strong willpower, but your shields are weak."

"Speaking of mental shields, they will reappear after a few hours. As long as your willpower is intact."

It only took a few seconds, and my shields were broken. I slowly got back up and asked Grandpa what's to do next.

"You are going to use your psychic power on heavy things with your mind, Darius, like the car."

And when he finished his sentence, a car appeared.

"Now crush it like you did last time."

I did as he asked, and I began crushing the car. I felt a headache like last time, but my nose did not bleed.

This shows that I have gotten stronger in my psychic powers through continuous use of it.

After a few minutes, the car was fully crushed, and it turned into a metal ball.

"Well done, now try to lift two cars."

Two cars appeared as he finished speaking. I lifted them both with Psychokinesis. The pain was still there, and I was slowly reaching my limit.

My eyes were starting to bleed now, and my vision began getting blurred.

"That's enough Darius, you can stop now."

And with that, I dropped the two cars and collapsed to the ground. Blood was dripping from my nose and eyes. Almost all my face was covered in blood.

My grandfather healed me, and I felt strong and healthy. I cleaned the blood from my face with a water bottle that I had when I got my refreshments.

"Now it's time to test out your lightning."

Then, a portal appeared. Grandfather went into the portal and came out with a tied up man.

"This person here, Darius, is a member of the rebellion. I want you to torture him with -

"Damn you all, just you wait. One day, we will all have freedom and democracy."

The rebel looked at us with hate burning in his eyes. And my grandfather did not look happy.

"You dare interrupt me when I am teaching my grandson. You rebel scum."

He then proceeded to break the rebels' legs by just stomping on them. The rebel screamed in pain.

"Okay, Darius, you may start now."

I raised my right hand and shot out Force Lightning.

The rebel started to scream even more now due to being electrocuted and his legs being broken.

His skin slowly started to become charred. As he screamed in pain, I felt stronger, and then I saw the intensity of the lightning getting stronger.

It was almost as if his pain was giving me more power.

"You can stop now, Darius."

I stopped my assault on the rebel, and he groaned in pain.

The rebel was now bald, and his entire skin was charred. He now looked like a burnt barbecue.

"Grandfather, when I electrocuted him, I saw the intensity of my lightning getting stronger, and I also felt stronger. Do you know how that happened?"

My grandfather had a proud look on his face.

"This can only mean one thing, you were feeding on his pain. This is an innate ability of the Blackburn family."

An innate ability, if the Blackburns have an innate ability, do other noble families have an innate ability as well?

"I see you're confused. Worry not, I will tell you all about it once you have completed all your training."

Guess I have to wait four years for an explanation.

"Now shoot your lightning at me, Darius."

I complied with his order and unleashed a barrage of Force Lightning.

It wasn't doing anything to my grandfather. He just looked bored.

"Not bad, Darius, but you still have a long way to go."

I just noticed something, whenever I use my Force Lightning, I don't feel any pain nor experience a nose bleed.

"Grandfather, whenever I use my lightning, I don't feel a headache nor a nosebleed. Why is that?"

"That's one of the benefits of dark psionic powers. There is no real drawback to using it, except for the fact that people might stay away from you."

Wait, if there is a dark side, is there a light side.

"Grandfather is there, perhaps a light side as well."

My grandfather shaked his head no.

He then turned his head towards the rebel, who was still groaning in pain.

"Darius, you have completed most of your mental training. Now, all you have to do is kill this rebel scum."

I then looked at the charred rebel and raised my right hand.

A small ball of Psionic Energy appeared, and I went for a headshot. The ball moved like a bullet, instantly killing the rebel.

My grandfather looked at me curiously.

"How do you feel, Darius, knowing that you took a life."

I looked at him with a smile.

"It's like stepping on an ant, grandfather."

He looked surprised, then he slowly had a smirk on his face.

"You have completed your training. There are two options one is to take a break, two is to hold a car with your mind for a long time, while I heal and give you more energy when you reach your limits."

"I choose the second option." I replied.

"A wise choice, Darius."

I began to use my Psychokinesis on one of the cars and lifted it.

It took longer than I expected to reach my limits. I could feel myself reaching my limits. But as soon as I felt the headache, it was gone.

I looked at my grandfather, and his hand was glowing.

"You know what, try lift two cars again."

I did exactly that and mentally lifted the second car.

I hardly felt any pain, thanks to my grandfather.

This carried on for what felt like hours.
