Interviewing The Vigilantes

They entered an empty classroom in the middle of the night. Adams still didn't understand what was going on, especially since there was no sound coming out of the gunshot. Well, that was a 22nd-century suppressor, it was so effective that only comtacs would be able to hear that or any specialized hearing apparatus.

"Please, sit down," Adams told Orion and Dean to sit down.

Dean and Orion sat down on the chair as Adams put his smartphone on top of the table. He opened the recording app and started recording the conversation. Adams really wanted to question both of them because he was a supervisor of those two.

"Corporal Adams interviewing Private Dean and Private Orion regarding an interception of intelligence leaker in 120th Training Battalion building. Time's 23:45. Beginning interview."

It was pretty much a serious interview where Adams demanded all answers. He was their supervisor and it would be bad if they suddenly tarnished Adams' reputation just because of this vigilante.

"So, Dean, what business requires you to be here at these hours?" Adams asked.

"We are here to respond to an informant regarding the involvement of Mick in the intelligence leak and the attempted murder of myself, sir," Dean answered.

"And you?"

"I'm here as Dean's plus one sir," Orion answered.

"Plus one, huh?" Adams responded.

"Yes, sir," Orion answered.

"Mhmm," Adams hummed. "Please, can you disclose who this informant is?"

"As per the request of the informant, I can't open the identity to the current interview, sir. The individual is under the threat coming from Mick and his accomplices if I disclose it now, sir," Dean replied.

"Understandable. Why don't you report this to the police or the MP?" Adams asked.

"We are under the assumption that too much attention would scare them off. We decide to act alone while fully knowing the risk of our actions, sir," Dean answered.

"Very well. The interview ends at 0000 hours." Adams turned off the recording app on his phone and he put it back in his pocket. "Nice job killing the bastard, Dean." An unexpected statement came out of Adams' mouth.

Dean thought Adams would question him a little bit longer because a member from the 120th battalion was involved in this. Still, Dean welcomed the change of event. He prevented something worse from happening, at the very least.

Even though neither Dean nor Orion knew what would be stolen, the act of vigilantism would benefit the military in times to come in a way that they wouldn't even imagine, until Dean got involved again in the future.

"Sir, why the praise?" Dean asked.

"You killed two Menkaids without any hesitation while keeping one human alive. To be honest, I doubt the Menkaid would know shits, Mick is the brain of the plan," Adams added.

"Why are you so sure?" Dean asked.

"C'mon, don't bullshit me, Dean, this is your personal vendetta, right? No way an ordinary student would wear your loadout, no matter what the circumstance is. Especially this Eurasian Federation rifle, this is not exactly something common on this site, you know?" Adams pointed his hand at the ShAK-15 that Dean carried.

"Yeah," Dean scratched his head.

"Anyway, you two are dismissed, go back to your dorm now, and Dean, thanks for the initiative, you've done this country a lot. Sorry if I haven't done much for you," Adams said.

Dean nodded and stood up from the chair. Orion followed him from behind. Adams stayed in the room so he could give any report. The military police carried Mick on a stretcher outside. Behind his balaclava, Dean just wanted to smile.

Finally, the person that wanted him dead from the start of the academy until now would be put away in the military prison for a very long time. He would have to answer to his crime against humanity. His days of bullying and assassination would be over. Everyone would give a sigh of relief.

Orion felt happy that he became useful. Working for Dean had been an honor for him. He finally felt that he was working to make the world a better place by putting a criminal to his place, and putting the person that almost killed his best friend.

All in all, today was a good day and Andre had prepared something for them. However, to make sure that he prepared it, Dean would need to call Andre first. As he and Orion walked to the dormitory, they called Andre.

"Ah, my friends, if you call, I assume that you two are still alive, yeah?" Andre asked with an ecstatic tone from the other side of the phone.

"Yup, mission's complete, we got 'em, mate," Orion answered.

"Awesome, get back here asap, celebration is waiting, my man," Andre said.

Orion put his phone back in his pocket. It had been quite a night, a short one, but a decisive one for Dean. As they arrived at the dormitory, Dean put down his rifle on the table and Orion gave Dean his rifle back.

In the middle of the room, there was a bottle of wine, probably something that Andre bought when they were away. Tomorrow would be the day of paperwork, Dean would have to submit everything that he collected on the board right on his desk.

"Investigation complete?" Andre asked as Dean entered the room.

"Investigation complete. Damn, it's been quite a while, isn't it?" Dean commented.

"Well, we now got your murderer, several testimonies from the witnesses, and a bunch of things that will put Mick in the slammer," Orion commented.

"Yeah, anyway, cheers guys."

"Cheers."
