'Golems, huh...', Drake analysed.

Once upon a time, there was a civilization that had risen to the top of the food chain: Gnomes. Small and fragile, these little creatures could not make up for their physical inferiority with magical talent. If dwarves possessed incredible craftsmanship, gnomes were not particularly good at making things.

However, an incredible family of geniuses had created a legacy of golem manufacturing. Although the knowledge was lost, there was some incomplete traces of how to create golems, some of which ended up in the hands of Magus Families. The Ancestor of the Elderwood family, an eminent Alchemist, had managed to trade elixirs against such knowledge.

Passed down from generation to generation, Count Elderwood had used over a thousand magic crystals in his studies, and eventually managed to create three beginner-rank golems. Each one of his golem was enough to kill hundreds of average soldiers. Average knights would not be able to fight against such fast-regenerating golems either. In order to kill a golem, being a veteran knight or a beginner acolyte was a must.

As the three golems in tandem hit Drake, the latter felt the strength of these magical constructs.

'Damn it...The golems are taking advantage of the fact that my [Shadow Field] innate spell has been breached by Count Elderwood's fire arrow...Unless I infuse magic power in the Shadow Field, it will be breached'

However, infusing magic in a forcefield that he had awakened minutes ago was easier said than done. In fact, the mere thought of fighting so soon after a breakthrough was a mistake. Drake had been impatient. Instead of waiting for the right moment, he had broken through as soon as he had the opportunity to do so. Not only did it cost him precious help from now-fallen allies, his mastery over his newly gained strength was still immature.

He could, surely, make up for it using his extraordinary attributes. However, Grand Knights were not invincible. Like a lion struggling against an army of hyenas, Drake sighed and endured the hits of the golems before infusing magic into his eyes.

[You have activated [Demonic Raven Vision]]

His first innate spell helped him increase his perception by leaps and bounds. Not only did it allow him to feel like the time passed slowlier, it also helped him perceive mana.

Golems were probably the worst enemies of knights. After all, golems could easily overpower knights, and although they weren't fast, a single blow would crush, or even cripple their opponents. Worst still, using a sword against a golem made of dirt would damage it, if not break it, no matter how skillful the swordsman was.

But Drake was no average knight. Count Elderwood probably encountered the worst opponent for his arsenal of skills.

Picking up a spear from a fallen soldier, Drake's stance was that of an Olympian Javelin Thrower as he moved his arm at lightning speed. The spear was thrown so fast that it made a whistling sound. It reached the Golem's shoulder, and pierced it.

*CRUMBLE*

[Golem Core Destroyed]

There was only two ways to stop a golem : Kill the caster, or destroy its core.

Drake was too far from Count Elderwood. Between him and the count stood 7 acolytes, 5 knights and nearly fifty soldiers who were firmly holding their swords, ready to cut him down. Even if he was strong enough to charge through this army, the three golems in front of him would not let him kill their caster.

Thus, destroying the golems was the way to go.

And his [Demonic Raven Vision] allowed him to see where the concentration of mana was the highest. And Golem Cores were basically mana generator. Knights would have to guess the location of the core, and bet their everything on this guess. Drake didn't have to guess. A simple glance was enough to tell where it was located.

Thereafter, it was just a matter of throwing accurately. But he was a Grand Knight. Doing so with such high agility was childplay.

Taking another spear, Drake smiled.

*SWOOOSH*

The spear hit the second golem's head.

*CRUMBLE*

"NOOOOOO!", the Count shouted in frustration. Golem cores were extremely pricy. They required magical ore, beginner-rank magical creatures' blood as well as an enormous quantity of mana to be infused in it.

Not to mention the price of the ingredients, the time required to create a single golem core was counted in months. Drake's spear basically denied him months' worth of his life.

*SWOOSH*

*CRUMBLE*

In a flash, his three golems had fallen.
