Chapter 16 Ancient Demonic Relics

In the morning Jin and I teleported to the guildhall to try and find a member who was a mage. I remembered when I was looking through the character classes that the mages had a unique skill to read languages. I was hoping they would be able to read the runes in the cave we explored the other day. When a mage finally did arrive I asked them if they would mind coming with us to the ruins. They were excited to come along since they had the skill but couldn't test it out anywhere yet.

All three of us teleported to the island and went inside the ruins. We led them to the wall with the runes and murals on it. The fact that there still aren't any enemies here is starting to weird me out. Our guildmate started to translate the runes and discovered that the weapons pictured were ones we currently were holding. He said that they were ancient demonic relics from a lost time. He also said that they haven't been awakened to their true power yet though. I asked him if it said how to awaken them or what happens when we do. He looked back at the wall but said that there wasn't any more information he could give us. We teleported back to the guildhall and thanked him for his help.

I asked Jin if he had any thoughts about what he told us. The fact that we have been using ancient relics this whole time was shocking to me. Jin was confused on two parts, one was how do we awaken our weapons and two was how the hell was he able to use a demonic relic when he had angelic powers. That second part also puzzled me because with his abilities he shouldn't be able to wield this kind of weapon. I thought that maybe when we use our demonic and angelic forms we can pour our energy into the weapons and maybe they will awaken that way. There was only one way to test it out.

I suggested that we go back to the island and try to awaken the weapons while inside the ruins. Jin thought it was a good idea but also was worried that what if something bad happens. I told him that as long as we are together we will be okay. I grabbed him by the hand and we teleported back. When we got there we made our way inside and back to the wall. Once there we both used our abilities and started to pour our energy into our weapons. Our weapons started glowing when a portal opened up and enemies started pouring out of it.

Oh great now the enemies show up. We stopped pouring our energy into our weapons and started killing off the unwanted company that showed up. After what felt like hours it hadn't seemed like there was an end to their forces. The portal was swirling colors of red and orange which only made me assume that it led to Hell. If that was true then there was no end to the number of enemies that could come out. I yelled to Jin that we had to close the portal itself somehow. If we didn't hurry we would soon run out of energy to stay in our demonic and angelic forms.

We each tried attacking the portal with our skills but all it did was either kill what enemies were currently coming out or it just got sucked into Hell itself. Jin looks at me and suggests maybe the Spear of Calamity or World of Ruin skills would work better. I looked at him and said we both only had enough energy for one of those attacks and if we chose the wrong one then that's it for us. After a little thought, we both decided that we would use our ultimate ability. We took each other by the hand and we both started gathering up what energy we had left. When we were done we launched the energy ball straight at the portal. As soon as we launched it our demonic and angelic forms vanished and now we were just in a weakened state so if this doesn't close the portal we were screwed.

When the energy ball made contact with the portal the force of the impact destroyed half of the ruins and the remaining part started caving in. I tried to use my Reaper Slash to clear a path for us but it was of no use. We were trapped and unable to teleport unless we were outside. I tried sending a private message to Satoshi through the in-game messaging system letting him know what happened but for some reason, it wouldn't send. It's like we were cut off from everybody. Jin and I slowly started fading in and out from all of the energy that we had used during the battle.

Later that evening Satoshi was starting to get worried that the boys haven't made it home yet. He teleported to the guildhall to see if anybody there had seen us. A mage walked up to him and said that he had been with us earlier that day at the ruins. He said that he translated the runes for us and we must have gone back to try and awaken our weapons. He asked if he would accompany him and see if we were there still. He agreed and they teleported to the ruins. When they arrived they both noticed half of the ruins had caved in. Satoshi asked the mage if it was like this earlier and he said no. They rushed inside both calling out to Ryuu and Jin. As they cleared away the rubble Satoshi could see a glimpse of us laying on the ground. They started moving faster and once they had made an opening Satoshi rushed to our side. He started to shake us since he could see that we weren't dead and had plenty of health. He noticed that our weapons were laying on the ground next to us so he assumed that we were in a battle but he didn't understand that with all our power why we were on the ground.

Jin and I finally came to from Satoshi's shaking. We both looked up and we're happy that he had found us. We told him what had transpired there. He asked if we were able to awaken our weapons and we said that we were attacked before we could try. When we got to our feet we went to pick up our weapons and noticed that they looked different. I checked the item information card and our weapons now said unknown weapon. We decided that we were too tired to deal with it right then and went back home for the night. We all had dinner and Jin and I took a relaxing bath to try and recover from the events of the day before ultimately going to bed.
