36 Chapter 36 : Kanao: The cutest cat in the world

"I think we should sit down and have a peaceful talk with each other without the blades."

He looked at Kanae and said his proposal seriously. Kanae frowned tightly. She honestly know that she have sympathy towards demons which is thing not suitable for their cruel world but this time she can't bring herself to sympathize with this demon since he had hurt her sister, which is something she cannot tolerate at any cost.

"Sister, you can talk to him."

A crisp voice sounded behind her causing Kanae to turn her head. After looking at her sister for a while, she turned her head and nodded to Haruto: "Okay, I will hear you out."

Haruto smiled and walked towards Kanae while slowly guiding Kanao by holding her hands naturally. Kanae squinted her eyes slightly but kept her hand on the hilt of the blade. She hadn't let go of her vigilance against the demon yet.

She can't afford to let go of guard before a demon. Before because of a momentary negligence, her sister almost had an accident. She will not make another mistake again.

Haruto ignored Kanae's vigilance and sat on the ground in front of the two sisters. At the same time, he stretched out his hand and gently took Kanao in his lap and slowly petted her head. He had noticed that Kanao tends to relax when he pets her head like that.

Kanae looked at the girl who was quietly staying in the demon's lap and seemed a little content at the demon's petting like a little cat and revealed a pensive look.

Before Haruto could finish speaking, Shinobu opposite him interrupted.

Haruto smiled at Shinobu and began to nitpick her mistake. Shinobu just harrumphed and turned her head away, clenched her small fists slightly: "Well i don't need a demon to teach me manners I already have my sister for that."

Kanae rubbed her sister's head and could feel that her sister's emotions towards this demon seemed a little different. In other words, it's not like treating against a demon at all but treating like between friends.

'A demon can make my Shinobu treat him as a friend in such a short time who considers demon as the bane of her existence. What did this demon actually do?'

Haruto didn't care about what Kanae was thinking at the moment but continued to speak: "What I want to propose is very simple, that is I have no grievances or enmity with your demon slayer corps and I have no intention of being an enemy of the demon slayer corps. So I simply don't want people from the demon slayer corps to trouble me."

He spoke out his mind. Kanae's brows frowned unconsciously and after a while, she quietly asked, "We can't do that even if I agree since it will put other people in danger."

Haruto was little taken aback but also a little speechless and at the same time a little helpless. Since in this world demons are all cannibals, without exceptions. He can't take displeasure in it since it's obvious for Kanae to take measure against that. 

He shook his head helplessly. Then he spoke, "You don't have to worry about what you are thinking"

Kanae obviously couldn't believe it.

"You can you restrain the demon's instinct?"

"If you are saying about cannibalism, I definitely won't do such a thing. You can ask your sister for that," He said with certainty, he was a human being before even if he became a demon, how could he do such a thing? And since he's different from the demon's created by Muzan so he doesn't need it. He just need to eat food in more quantities than humans for nutrition. 

Kanae glanced at Shinobu and didn't say anything, then she pressed her hand on the scabbard and the cold blade was pulled out.

Haruto's heart tightened, thinking that Kanae would make a move. Even Shinobu next to him opened her mouth, ready to speak. Surprising him a little. But the first to make a move was Kanao who despite showing nothing in her face she stood and placed her body before Haruto and spread her hand to protect him. This move made both Kanae and Shinobu speechless and Haruto felt both shock and warm in his heart.

But, Kanae didn't attack him like they thought.She just gently cut her arm with the blade, a long and shallow wound was cut on the fair skin and strands of bright red blood dripped down.

Then Kanae waved her bleeding hand in front of him, blood dripping down, slowly a bloody smell began to fill the air.

As for Haruto, when he smelled the blood in the air, he also faintly felt a restlessness in his heart, which was the instinct of demons, the desire for human blood. However, this instinct was firmly suppressed by him.

His instinct can go to hell for all he care. Now, it was him who had to act on his will. Even if he became a demon, he still has to live as a human.
