Quinn was in a state of unconsciousness, he suddenly sensed his throat go dry and his stomach was aching. Gradually, he opened his eyes, finding himself staring at a different ceiling than what he usually sees.

He felt mild pain in his head, the memories about what happened before he lost his consciousness suddenly flooded his mind, making him rise up from his sleeping position.

He remembered that he had been on the verge of transforming, but after seeing a demon slayer he stopped.

'Why did I hesitate? Even if a demon slayer is present, they may not possess the ability to finish all four demons. My mother, where is she?' He found himself sitting on a tatami mat as he turned his head leftward in order to assess his location.

However, he didn't expect to see a person sitting there and calmly observing his actions. His eyes widened as he didn't sense the slightest inkling of this person's presence within the room.

The individual turned out to be an elderly woman, her face was filled with wrinkles. She has white hair which was neatly gathered into a bun at the nape of her neck, while a walking stick rested at her side. She was sipping somthing from the cup in her hand as she gazed at his direction.

"Ah, I've been waiting for you to wake-up." The elderly woman spoke, gently placing the cup upon the ground.

Though a tinge of danger went through Quinn's senses, he maintained his calm.

"Where I am? Where is my mother?" He inquired. He can tell he had been rescued, so his mother also should be here.

"Haha, you're a good son, no need to worry. Your mother is resting in another room. Now, as for how you ended up in this place, my granddaughter rescued you and brought you here."

"Allow me to introduce myself—I'm Tomiko Kurogane, head of the Kurogane household in the town of Mizukiri. You can just call me Lady Kurogane." The elderly woman explained, her words flowing smoothly in Quinn's ears.

Quinn refrained from further inquiries, as he felt he can trust the old lady's words. Yet, before he could fully ease himself, her eyes suddenly became sharp.

"Now that I've answered your inquiries, how about you answer a few of mine?" She asked, a smile adorning her face.

"What kind of questions?" Quinn asked.

"You arrived here covered in bruises, and yet, after a mere twelve-hour sleep, your skin miraculously appears unblemished, as if the injuries never existed." She remarked.

Quinn's eyes narrowed upon hearing the old woman's words regarding his extraordinary healing prowess.

'Was she suspecting that I was a demon?'

In response, he maintained silence, neither confirming nor denying anything.

"Haha, it seems I pried a little too much. I apologise for delving into a matters that you'd want keep to yourself." The old woman chuckled, acknowledging Quinn's reluctance. "But if you're feeling hungry, I can arrange for-"

"It's actually a natural ability of mine, I've possessed it since birth." Quinn interjected, cutting her off mid-sentence. He had already sensed that this elderly lady was no ordinary individual— likely, she was a retired demon slayer.

Quinn's decision to tell her this was because - In this world, individuals with extraordinary powers were not uncommon, and many demons slayer know that, much like how everyone readily accepted Tanjiro's ability to smell scents like emotions.

Moreover, denying what is obvious would only put him to a difficult position.

"This... If what you're saying is true, then you really are a blessed child. It appears that your path has been already destined, it will get you to your rightful destination."

"I will take my leave from this room, your stomach seems to be rumbling hungrily. I will send you something to eat." The old lady rose from the ground, leaning upon her walking stick.

Just as Lady Kurogane prepared to depart, Quinn spoke up, his voice filled with caution.

"Um, Lady Kurogane, I hope that you keep this matter a secret." Although the explanation was indeed believable, it was rather safe to keep a secret such things.

"You can trust this old lady. I will not divulge your secret to anyone." Tomiko assured before making her exit from the room.

As soon as she departed, Quinn couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over him.

"Damn, it was indeed true, you cannot mess with old people in anime!" He muttered to himself.

[Ding! The host's body had made a full recovery.]

Quinn's mind jolted as the system's voice resounded within him, leaving him surprised.

'Am I imagining things, or does your voice sound more fluid than the usual mechanical tone?' He remarked, engaging in conversation with the system in his mind.

[No, the host is correct. The system has indeed fully awakened.]

'But why did it take this long for you to awaken?' Quinn inquired, puzzled by the delayed activation of the system.

[The system was intended to aid the host on his journey. Therefore, I was designed to provide the host with a special gift at the start, that would be of great use to the host throughout their adventure.]

[However, due to the circumstances of what happened to the host in the beginning, I had to break certain rules established by the goddess in order to save the host. As a consequence, I faced a punishment that rendered me incapable of providing assistance for a specific period of time.]

[But now, the host is free to inquire about any questions, and I will do my utmost to answer them.] The system explained, capturing Quinn's attention.

'Punishment for a system? Well, considering the goddess mentioned her job was reincarnating people into this fantasy world, it is also possible that I may come across one of them in the future.'

'System, explain me about your functions?' Quinn asked, as he seriously wanted to get strong after that incident.

[The system has mainly three functions.]

[Function 1 - The system aids the host with information of the world's timeline, the system will also issue Missions. By accomplishing these missions, the host can earn merit points.]

[Function 2 - The system helps the host in traveling across this vast Omniverse, of course in exchange for enough merit points.]

[Function 3 - Blessings - As the system was created by the Eternal Goddess of Destiny, the system also possesses the ability to bestow blessings upon host in a way by granting the host talents in any fields of works the host wants. Naturally, these blessings come at the cost of merit points.]
