37 Domain

The ability Alex wanted to try was one he had read about in Cultivation novels in his last life called a 'Domain'. It is basically an area that falls under his complete control to a point that he would be considered a 'God'.

Being able to create or destroy anything in said area with just a thought, and also heavily restricting anyone who enters the area under the users control.

Some instances he had read about, stated the user of a domain could completely cut off an enemy from their own power if their mastery was high enough and only an enemy with an equally strong domain would be able to challenge the user within their domain.

Since {Mana Manipulation} let him Create, destroy and even manipulate the raw elements of this world it should be possible to create an effect similar to a domain.

For now, he would try to set it up as an 'Anti-Magic' area, hoping he could make it seem like people completely lost the ability to use their magic if they happened to get inside the AoE (Area of Effect).

He started by using his knowledge of sealing peoples magic, and tried to figure out how to do it without physical contact. Generally to seal ones magic he had to be touching them.

After a couple hours of failure after failure he eventually decided to change his approach. Instead of sealing their magic, he would take control of it away from them, this would either make them unable to use magic or make their magic go chaotic.

While it would probably be less effective then cutting/sealing off their magic completely, it should still be effective in rendering them unable to fight back. A couple hours of trial and error, he was able to completely 'silence' all the ambient mana with-in a 10 meter radius with him at the center.

He kept turning his domain on and off rapidly to train up how fast he could activate it. It wouldn't be combat useable unless he could activate it in less than a second.

When he got it too a point he was happy with, all that was left was to find someone to test in on. With that in mind, he headed to the pool area to see if Wendy and Carla were still there.

He could ask one of his 3 guests, but didn't want to interrupt the conversation between mother and daughter he was sure is taking place right now.

When Alex entered the pool area he was stopped dead in his tracks by the noise of yelling, splashing and fighting. Focusing on his senses he could tell there was quite a few members of the guild partying it up fairytail style.

It wasn't surprising to see Natsu and Gray in a heated fist fight, though them trying to hold each other under water was new.

'Huh, guess Wendy and Carla wanted to have a pool party' He thought with a chuckle.

Erza, Lucy and Levy were floating on tubes in the deep pool having a quite conversation, while Jet, Droy and Elfman were having a splash competition off one of the rope swings.

There were a few more members, he wasn't too familiar with, having a swimming competition.

His eyes moved to the hot tub where he found Wendy and Carla watching all the chaos unfold. He also found Mira and Cana relaxing with content faces, the latter with a bottle of wine in her hands.

Shrugging and not really caring for answers right away, Alex got changed and joined the 4 ladies in the hot tub.

"Oh, hi Alex! How did your training go?" Wendy asked as he climbed in the water. "It went fine, though I kinda feel left out nobody invited me to the party" he said with a mock hurt face.

"Umm Uh-uh I"M SORRY! It wasn't really planned and then got really crazy when everyone showed up that I forgo.." "Calm down child, He is only messing with you" Carla interrupted Wendy as she was starting to panic thinking she had done something terrible.

Alex, Cana and Mira lightly laughed at Wendy's expense seeing the very flustered look on her face. "I-is it really fine?" She asked softly after calming down.

"Of course. Was just a little startled at first. I did such a good job of soundproofing this place that I didn't even know we had guests till I was almost here" Alex said with a smile.

"I might be needing my own Key to get in this place, It is amazing!" Cana interrupted while raising her wine to gesture around the area.

"How bold Cana! Already asking Alex to move in and you haven't even started dating" Mira teased with a chuckle.

Cana laughed lightly, "That's not exactly what I meant, but if it gets me access to this place and the awesome bar over there... ..you never know". Cana said with a seductive smirk as she eyed Alex up and down.

Everyone in the hot tub chuckled at that and they slowly moved in to light nonsensical conversation.

After a few minutes of conversation, relaxing and Alex having robbed half of Cana's wine, he had an idea.

"Hey, I created this new spell I'd like to try" he started. "It should be a non harmful control-type. Would It be alright to use it here with you 4 giving me your feed back about the effects?" He asked.

"What kind of spell is it?" Mira asked curiously, the other 3 also looked curiously at him.

"I call it 'Domain'. In theory, it should allow me to halt all the magic in an area, including the magic within another persons body. Making it so only the caster in able to use magic within the effected area." Alex explained.

Mira Gasped! "You can take control of someone else's magic?!" she asked in alarm, her outburst making the other 3 unnaturally serious.

"Not to a point that I could make it do anything other than 'Stop', but yeah." Alex replied unconcerned.

"This is serious Alex, if anyone ever got a hold of this magic it could cause and uproar in the magical community." Mira said seriously.

To be able to remove the use of wizards magic would be devastating. A lone dark mage could walk into a guild hall and kill everyone in there without anyone being able to fight back.

"You guys are overreacting." Alex started, still unconcerned. "This Magic can only be done by me currently and not only do I not even know if it works yet, but I have no intention of teaching it to anyone or writing the process down" he said confidently.

He couldn't straight up tell them that it was impossible for others to learn because they didn't have the {Mana Manipulation} skill. He was the only one in this world with that particular skill and wouldn't be able to explain it even if someone figured out about it.

"I don't mind being your 'test subject' " Cana said with a sly grin, breaking the serious atmosphere. "Yeah, me either" Mira said with a resigned sigh.

"It won't hurt will it?" Wendy asked with a slightly scared look.

"It shouldn't, but If it does let me know right away and I'll stop. My goal here is not to cause pain." Alex replied.

"Umm okay then. I'll help too" Wendy replied resolutely, Carla merely nodded.

Alex activated his 'Domain' around the hot tub, limiting it to a smaller area would give him a better understanding of its effects while requiring less mana and concentration.

He was paying close attention to his 4 test subjects when his mana was washing over them. They all had the same reaction. Shivering as if someone had poured a bucket of Ice water on their heads, they all stared at him in shock.

"Is it painful?!" Alex asked in alarm, seeing the slightly pale faces of his 'Victims'. "N-n-No. Jus-ju-just v-v-ery c-c-c-old" Mira said through chattering teeth. The others nodded at her words, not trusting themselves to speak.

"Try using some magic quickly, then I will deactivate it". Alex said hurriedly.

It wasn't his goal to make them suffer, and despite the hot water they were all sitting in, all 4 looked close to hypothermia. There was a slight pause as the 4 girls were focusing on their magic, about 15 seconds and a round of head shakes later Alex deactivated his domain.

"Well?" he asked, after the color started to return to the girls faces. Cana groaned before submerging herself completely under water temporarily.

Mira came back to her senses first "That was terrible" She said with a final shiver.

"Yeah, it didn't look all that fun. For that I'm sorry. I wasn't expecting that" Alex apologized. 'It makes sense now that I think about it. Mana probably works like the circulatory system for wizards. I wonder if it could actually kill the person it is used on if I kept in on long enough. Just like if you halted the blood flow of a regular human, it would not take long before they died.'

"Please don't use that on me ever again. It was soo cold!" Wendy's words pulled Alex out of his dark thoughts. "Don't worry, I won't. And again I apologize" Alex said with a sheepish smile.

"Well, your spell definitely works as intended. I wasn't able to even move my magic at all. But I feel like that spell is way more lethal than it was probably intended to be." Mira Commented.

The other 3 girls nodded at her words, they had all felt the touch of death within that magic and were not too keen to ever experience it again.

"Yeah, that is the vibe I got too. Well I guess it's back to the drawing board for this one. It will be the exact opposite of what I intended it to be if it kills the victims." Alex said looking a little annoyed. "I already have too many lethal magics to begin with" He mumbled quietly.

They changed the topic to less depressing things and finally started using the hot tub for what it was meant for, Relaxation. Of course, Cana also made Alex go and get another bottle of wine for 'stealing' hers, completely ignoring the fact that she had stolen it from him first.

When the party was over and his 'guests' had left, Alex found himself back in his training grounds. He still hadn't given up on his domain spell as it had so much potential to be incredibly annoying to anyone who tried to fight him.

'Hmmm, what if I make it so it halts only the mana in the atmosphere. This could include the mana up to the skin of the victim but not the mana with-in their bodies. It should keep them from casting magic still unless they were a body reinforcement type mage who focused on strengthening their organs and muscles. But even that type of mage should be heavily restricted as they wont be able to coat their bodies with mana for added protection.' Alex mused.

With a new direction to try he started to modify his spell. It didn't take too long as he was already very familiar with the spell. "Awesome, now I just need another victim" he said quietly.

"So this is where you spend your free time eh?" A voice spoke up, pulling Alex out of his thoughts.

"Hmm? Oh, a Victim" Alex said, as he turned to see Ur coming from the house.

"What was that?" she asked, unsure if she had heard him right.

"Nothing, nothing. Don't worry about it" he said flippantly.

"What are you doing out here so late?" Ur asked suspiciously. "Just working on a new non-lethal spell. Speaking of.. Would you be willing to let me try it on you?" he asked as innocently as possible.

Ur glared darkly at him before asking what the spell did. "Its purpose is to simply limit magic in its area. If it works, it should be very difficult or outright impossible for the 'opponent' to release their magic" Alex said, still trying to sound innocent.

Ur stared at him suspiciously for a while longer before finally relenting and giving him permission to try his spell.

Alex wasted no time in using his spell, but still kept a watchful eye on her reaction in case she started showing the signs of discomfort.

When he got no reaction from her, he asked her to try casting a spell. Ur went through the hand and stance motions she had trained her whole life, but nothing ever happened. No matter what she tried, she was unable to make magic manifest outside her body.

"Okay, I'll admit that would be a terrifying spell to face in a battle". She said wearily.

"Was their any discomfort or 'tell' to let you know you were standing in a 'Anti-magic' zone?" Alex asked, avoiding her statement.

"Not really, now that I'm actually focusing on it I can't draw any Ethernano into my body. But if you aren't looking for it, I doubt anyone would notice until they needed to cast a spell". She replied.

"Awesome! This means it's finally a success!" Alex said happily. "Could you teach me that spell?" Ur asked curiously.

"No, sorry. This one's gotta stay with me". He replied simply.

Ur just nodded in slight disappointment, not willing to make a big deal out of it after is blunt refusal. She could tell it wouldn't have helped sway him anyway.
