59 Preparations

Feng Hei Lang turned to Kang Lei once more. "So it really is about how well you hide..."

His eyes sparkled. "A test of stealth! Sounds amazingly fun~ But Instructor Le Yi can be really strict and tight sometimes..."

Headmaster Zhong Qiu continued. "Instructor Le Yi will be holding back and will not be using an area of effect abilities. Your safety is also guaranteed. This year's target is the tail of the Iron Fanged Wolf Clan. We had some of our gifted students take it back for us. Please give a round of applause to congratulate them."

Echoing claps rang across the entire courtyard. He turned his back to the students and grabbed a single box. "We will now be randomly selecting an arena to participate in. Most of you already know that we have multiple arenas. However, new foxes, please listen. We have different arenas, from ones in shivering temperatures and ones in scorching ones. Depending on what I pull out, that will be your arena for this tournament."

Headmaster Zhong Qiu reached his hand into the box and pulled out a slip of paper to read. "This year's arena will be the very classic one. A perfect choice for this year's tournament. The multi-arena! A mix of a land of ice, desert, forest, and water. You'll have to pass through all the areas and then you can reach the tail. Fighting other foxes are allowed. There are no specific things you can't do, but no underhanded tactics before the tournament. It will take place tomorrow morning, you have one whole day to prepare! Dismissed!"

Feng Hei Lang eagerly turned to Kang Lei. "That sounds like fun! I'm quite excited!"

He tilted his head. "Do you think teaming counts as underhanded tactics?"

Another voice joined in from behind them. "Not that I would want to team up with you anyways."

She whirled around to see Kirei standing there, his arms crossed across his chest.

Kang Lei smirked. "Seems like little popular boy figured out how to get away from his fans."

Kirei sighed. "Teaming is most likely allowed, but I'm not planning on teaming."

Feng Hei Lang nodded. 'I probably shouldn't team with anyone either...It will make fighting easier, but traveling in a group within a stealth competition would make it much harder...'

Kang Lei stuck his tongue out at him. "I wouldn't want to team with you anyways. I want to fight you and see what happens!"

Kirei shook his head and sighed once more. "You're quite dense aren't you? We won't get out of fighting each other. Although I'm much stronger than you, your ability directly counters mine. There won't be any answer to it."

A scoff came from Kang Lei. "We'll see about that."

Kirei ignored him. "Anyways, I came over because I wanted to see if any of you would come along with my to the auction house. I want to see if there's any materials we can buy with our tallies. How many do you both have?"

Feng Hei Lang quickly checked her medallion. "515. I need to save quite a bit of them since I feed both Xing and myself, plus I'm a Bronze Rank."

Kang Lei quickly checked too. "385. Not that I'm going to lend any to you anyways."

Kirei pointed to an exit out of the courtyard. "I'm not asking for you to lend me any. I have plenty of tallies to spare. I'm only asking you to accompany me to the auction house. However, with so little tallies like water boy, you can only get one stealth talisman."

Kang Lei frowned. "Not that I'll need any anyways."

The both stared at each other, tension building up. Feng Hei Lang grimaced. 'I can feel the sparks of electricity between them from here!' She pushed both of them apart. "Calm down! We only have a day to prepare anyways. We better hurry to the auction house if you don't want the prices of items to raise up because of high demand."

Kirei nodded. "She's right. Better hurry along, or you won't get anything at all water boy."

Kang Lei smirked. "We'll see about that."

In a burst of water, he zoomed ahead, splashing Kirei in the process. He let out a low growl, while drying his own clothes off. Within another second, he leapt forward using his flames to propel him.

Feng Hei Lang was left all alone in the courtyard. She gaped at the empty spot where they were. She gripped the medallion tightly in her hand. 'Those idiots! I'll get there before any of them!' She activated [Dash] while using [Shadow Manipulation] to jump from shadow to shadow.

Teleporting around, she reached the entrance of the auction house first. There were already quite a few foxes at the entrance. A few moments later, she spotted both of them. Kirei was clearly in the lead, bouncing around between different foxes.

Kang Lei was in behind, weaving between foxes. Just as Kirei was about to make it, he leapt forward using geysers to propel himself. The both crashed just in front of her.

Feng Hei Lang looked down with a disappointed look on her face. "Both of you lost."

Kang Lei frowned. "He clearly lost. I made it first."

She grinned. "Nope! I made it first, so I won."

Kirei rubbed the back of his head. "She technically did win..."

Kang Lei sighed. "She did...Anyways, there's SO MANY foxes here! Did everyone come here to find something to assist them?"

Feng Hei Lang nodded. "Looks like it. We better hurry inside and see what we can grab!"

All three of them quickly hurried off, pushing their way into the auction house.
