1 Casualties of war

*knock Knock* " Anyone home?" A man dressed in a black suit with a grim look on his face inquired while knocking on the door of a decently sized house , he clutched an envelope in his hand *knock knock* he knocked the door again this time hearing a tired voice "Yeah , Yeah I'm coming"

The man waited at the door for a few more moments listening to the sound of footsteps rushing towards the door , he clutched the envelope harder a, tear threatening to fall out his eyes as he thought of the news he came to deliver.

The door was opened by a young man seemingly sixteen years old with messy black hair and piercing black eyes , looking tired then slowly confused as he saw the military man on the verge of crying.

"Are you Alexander Darius Lufrien Son of Gregory Cedric Lufrien and Angelica Camellia Lufrien ?" The military man inquired with great effort tears slowly flowing from his eyes as he called the last two names.

"Yeah, That would be me , what about them , are they okay?" Alex asked with a worried look on his face and fear in his tone

" Is it okay if I come inside? I come with some heartbreaking news and I think it's best if you sit down for this" The man said wiping the tears from his face and steeling his heart so he could at least comfort Alex after giving him the news he came to give.

Alex being the smart person he was could already figure out where the conversation was going started to sob as he walked inside with the military man shutting the door behind them.

they both sat down in the living room around a small coffee table as the man opened his mouth and yet again started to cry for his comrades , Alex soon after, joining him in the water works. After about 30 minutes of shedding tears together the man in the military uniform, eyes red from tears slowly spoke.

"My name is Marcus Callam, C rank superhuman , a comrade and good friend to both your parents, I'm sure you've already figured out what I've come to tell you today, Alex "

Alex nodded slowly while wiping his eyes and looking down at the ring on his finger , the last thing they gave him before leaving home for the battlefield.

Marcus looked at the action of Alex before slowly continuing his speech "I'm sorry to have to tell you this , but sadly, both your parents have died at the hands of those bastard Kholbals" he said whilst clenching his fist before remembering about the envelope he brought with him.

He fished it out his pocket before continuing "Before deployment, each soldier is required to write a letter to those close to them, in the hope that it is never delivered as well as their wills."

He then passed the letter to a visibly distressed Alex who took it from him before opening it slowly , there was four sheets of paper , he slowly took out two of the papers one marked 'from Dad' and the other marked 'From Mom'.

He slowly opened the letter from his mother first , it read:

Hey kiddo, If you're reading this, it means that mommy's not coming home, firstly, I'm sorry, I hope you don't let my death keep you down, keep pushing. and remember to take care of yourself, I'm sorry I won't be able to attend your awakening ceremony in a few month's too , but keep in mind that no matter what level of talent you awaken, keep your chin up and work hard , I know how smart you are my son and how hard you push yourself when you're train, please always remember, Mom loves you, so please don't let me see you joining me any time soon, live your life to the fullest and have fun.

Alex felt tears welling up in his eyes once more after reading his Mom's letter, he then slowly looked towards the other paper and sighed before slowly reading its contents with sight blurry from the tears he was holding back, It read:

Alex, my son, In the unfortunate event that you have to read this letter, It means something has happened to me , and while I know that the feeling of reading your father's words , I beg of you my son, Do not show weakness, in my stead , I ask that you protect your self and your mother and in the worst of the worst scenarios, one where both me and your mother are unable to make it back home to you, don't let our deaths stop you from achieving your goals, instead push through and surpass your limits and make us proud, I love you my son, now and forever....

Alex folded the pages and put them down on the coffee table then rested his head in his hands and sobbed silently. Marcus slowly walked over to him and ruffled his hair then said, " It's okay to cry kid, Nobody should have to hear this kind of news, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, much less the child of my comrades in arms."

Marcus then placed a card on the coffee table and started walking towards the door to leave saying as he walked "There's my contact information , let me know if there's anything that I can do to help , I'll close the door on my way out."
