Chapter 17: But they deserve a good beating...

Justin felt regretful. He shouldn't have left them alone without giving them proper instructions or at least, he should've taken them with him.

Just because they were poor, it didn't mean they deserved to be treated badly. They had to face this poor treatment unjustly.

His grip on the man tightened.

"I already said let go of your hand a few times." Justin said and the seller did that, scared of the pain he was feeling in his arm.

"I already let go now you…" before he could finish speaking, Justin tossed him side effortlessly and turned to the man holding Alicia. He quickly let go so as not to suffer the same fate as his colleague.

"Are you alright?" Justin asked Alexia who was silently watching. Her face was bruised and her lips, torn. He gritted his teeth. "I'm going to make that bastard pay!"

"Don't, you'll only attract more people and I'm afraid they'll beat you up." She said,

"But they deserve a good beating for what they did, sister!" Alexia said. "If brother didn't come, they might've done much worse and handed us to the guards."

"Yeah, I'm not going to take this lying down." Justin said and was about to move when she pinched his shirt.

"Brother, I'm okay!" She smiled but that wasn't enough to convince him. How could she be okay looking like that?

He turned to the seller.

Meanwhile, a few palace guards escorting the priestess and a few priest's arrived at the area. They noticed the crowd and decided to see what was going on.

Priestess Kayla suddenly felt like a miracle was close by so she got down from the carriage.

"Priestess, you can't come down." The chief guard said but she simply followed her intuition and hurried towards the crowd, hoping not to miss that light.

As soon as the crowd saw the guards and the priestess approaching, they gave way.

What the priestess saw was completely contrary to any miracle she had ever encountered. This man, holding up another by the collar and getting ready to punch, had a white glow around him and she knew, by heart, that it was from the gods.

Priestess Kayla had the ability to see people's inner hearts. It was almost like true heart skill but this was a gift she received the moment she was born. This was why she was made a priestess at such a young age.

And over time, she unlocked healing abilities that were far greater than any other priest, stabilising her position in the temple.

At such a time where everyone thought the gods had abandoned them, having the priestess was proof that the gods were still alive and still cared for them. The people believed the gods were waiting for the right moment to show forth their glory and the Oracle was proof.

"That man!" She pointed at him but the guards got the wrong idea and pointed their swords at him.

"How dare you fight in the presence of the priestess? Unhand that man!"

Justin paused, he turned his head and over everyone, the only one he noticed was the priestess who had a pure white light radiating around her. It was so pure and beautiful that he almost forgot what he was doing.

'How can there be anyone so pure existing in this world?' he thought and dropped the guy in his hand. He attempted to walk towards her when the guards stopped him.

"Halt! You shall not take another step!"

This was when he realised the situation he was in and looked down at the two girls behind him. This would get complicated.

He glanced down at the seller who was yet to he roughed up and tsked. It was his lucky day.

"I'll back off!" He said and stepped back. "But you should be sure to give justice where it's due."

"From the looks of it, you're the one causing this commotion." One of the guards accused and it irked him.

"Me? Do you have your eyes in your butt?" He shook his head.

There was no use talking to the guards. They were all fancy prancy so there was no use speaking about justice.

It was clear that the girls were the ones bullied yet because they found him in action, he suddenly became the culprit. This was why he hated people.

"Let's just go!" Alicia said, tugging at his shirt. He looked down at her and nodded.

"It's not like they'll listen to us anyway." He said and attempted to leave but the guards wouldn't let them till the priestess spoke up.

"Leave them alone!" All the while, she had been staring in awe that she couldn't speak the words that were in her head.

This man whose face was covered by a shadow was a good man, she could see it. There was no way he would recklessly hit people, she knew it.

Justin glanced at the priestess.

'So she's a priestess. Is that why she has such a pure heart?' he wondered but didn't dwell too much on it and left before the guards could stop them.

"Let's end today's outing here." He said and held them close to himself . In an instant, he was back at their house. "Let's get you treated!"

"It's fine! I'm used to this type of treatment." Alicia said as he applied ointment over her bruises.

"I used to be too but it's infuriating how you just calmly let him hit you. Next time, if there ever is a next time, make sure to bite his skin off, okay?"

"Aye!" Alexia agreed but she kept silent.

"Well?"

"Aye!" She let out a nice sigh.

"Your skin is so precious, you shouldn't let others hit you recklessly. If you're so bruised all over, how will you get married in the future?"

"I can just marry brother, can't I?"

"Nah, I'd be too old by then." He said and they all laughed.

Once he was down applying the ointment, he put them to sleep.

"The day's been rough on you, go to sleep, okay?" He said, patting their heads gently.

"Aah!" Alexia screamed, alarming him.

"What's wrong?" He asked and she chuckled.

"The bed is so soft and comfortable. I want to cry." She said and he let out a little sigh.

"You just need to get used to it!" He said.

But then, he remembered them getting beaten. Such occurrences could repeat itself in the future.

"I… " he was just about to apologise when he heard them snoring. The bed was so comfortable that they drifted into sleep in no time.

He silently walked out of the room and closed the door.

He wanted to apologise for leaving them behind when they pleaded so much to go with him. He wanted to apologise for being so neglectful and not paying proper attention to them.

(You look like you will be a great father!)

The system said but he had different thoughts.

"System, I have a question!"

Let's beat em up!
