Outline
Author here. I missed the deadline for the writing competition and realized I am a consumer rather than a creator. So here was the outline for the story, just to explain how the story was going to go.
Chapter 5: New Hope
There was going to be exposition about how great the current world was. How the MC's life in this world is better and brighter.
Chapter 6: Costume Ball
They will arrive at the ball, meet a few random people in various costume when all of a sudden a new monster appears. Rie then appears to save MC and monster retreats
Chapter 7: Parallel Worlds
Rie explains what is going on to her knowledge. Few major points. That Rie was once just like him, a person that dies and goes to another world. 3 things follow when he dies: Monster, Trainer, Anchor.
Rie is the monster, anchor is the person to keep him sane through the trials (Michael). Every time he dies he gets an ability of the monster's based on survival.
Chapter 8: Weak
Test abilities, all of them weak. He tries to get a handle to make them more beneficial. Rie traded her powers in for something, she won't say. So now she is left with innate abilities.
Chapter 9: No Pain
Monster appears, Rie defends for a moment then lets MC get killed for a better ability. Jai dies then wakes up as earlier and talks with Michael
Chapter 10: Initiative
As the anchor, Michael is also a beacon for where the monster is supposed to go. Rie uses Michael as bait. Jai gets angry when Michael is almost hurt and is able to beat the new monster, actually killing it. The random voice said a notification verifying death of monster. It is not the end, they only get some breathing room. Jai wonders how many times he will kill or get killed.
Chapter 11: 2 Years
Time jump 2 years. Jai decides, he doesn't want to risk it in other worlds and he likes this one. Since he has changed worlds every other death, he decides to stay. The three work together and use various tricks to kill monsters with stereotypical monster weaknesses
Chapter 12: Good Times
Michael, with his pestering ways commenting on Rie's beauty, inevitably pushes both Jai and Rie together. Focus onto them killing the 12th monster. Some banter and action. See some scars on them. Back to their mansion, restock. They somehow acquired a book of over 30 monsters. They try and find common weaknesses and have backup plans. They sort of know the schedule of the monster's appearance. Otherwise daily life.
Chapter 13: Final Monster
Hardest monster yet. Accidents with backup occurred, somehow still able to delay and finally win
Voice confirms death then says processing
Chapter 14: Processing
The three are tired and bloody with grins on their faces. They cheer over this fight and are eager to fix their mistakes. Jai is wondering about the processing. Then things start to disintegrate. No one knows what is happening. Michael turns to particles with a smile and still says a cheesy one-liner. Rie starts to go and Jai goes to hug, wondering if this will be the last. Last words. White wash room with only Jai inside. The first voice appears and starts saying statistics. 8 million 4 hundred 28 thousand and 39 individuals participated. 2,257 individuals survived. 4,214,019 individuals suffered issues either mental or computational. 2,780,412 individuals either gave up or committed suicide. 715,675 individuals lost either both or one of their helpers, trainer and anchor. 596,397 individuals were found at fault for crimes committed during event or had incompatible personality. 119,279 individuals were killed off.
Chapter 15: First
Jai topped the charts because of the final 2 thousand people he topped the charts for least deaths and overall score. He now has a new hope: to create a family for himself. The previous 2 years will be his goal, a family like that. If he can find Rie and Michael, perfect. Otherwise he will make a new family. Doesn't matter where or status, only who and when it will happen. New trial approaches. New game where dying isn't the end. The 2 thousand people are all in it. Jai teams up with the others in the top 5. New voice sounds off to play to your hearts content. There is no death.
