72 To the ground

Lena watched as Lucas became a thunder in her eyes and cut off one of the whale's flippers, and managed to come back to the city on his own.

"People from the three great families are truly different— At least now that thing will calm down a little"

As she finished saying that, with eyes still focused on the creature she saw the beast healing its injury using Renewal.

"You've got to be kidding…"

Lena prepared her bow once again aiming towards the sky, and shot a single arrow made of mana towards the beast, along the way the single arrow multiplied into countless arrows that exploded once it reached the whale.

'That thing is still a grade 5. It probably can't use Renewal properly. It likely takes some time and mana to completely heal a whole flipper. I won't give you that time'

Thinking this, Lena prepared another arrow and aimed it at the whale. Without hesitation, she continued to fire more arrows, preventing the whale from using Renewal.

The White Whale has recognized Lena's presence before, knowing that it's that the girl is the only being in this battlefield which can constantly attack the whale, but her attacks were so weak that the monster was not worried about her at all.

But now things have changed. The whale needs to heal its flipper, but the monster can't concentrate enough to do so because of Lena's constant arrows. The whale's attention is divided between Renewal and using mana to block the damage.

The monster then made the most logical decision driven by instinct: it decided to eliminate Lena with a single ray of light. However, it decreased the mana output of the attack to conserve energy due to its injury, ensuring only enough energy to kill the girl.

But the monster committed a mistake once it decided to reduce the potency of the ray of light.

Emily appeared between Lena and the ray of light, using her innate magic to redirect the attack upwards. Which exploded in the sky.

Lena sighed in relief, and asked, "Is that your innate magic?"

"Yeah, I create an imaginary line between myself and the attack, and I can redirect it in a straight line."

Impressed, Lena said, "That's incredible, can you do it again?"

Emily nodded, "But there's a limit, I can't redirect an attack that surpasses my level, I was only able to redirect that one because that thing decreased the output"

Then the girls sensed the monster gathering mana and glanced towards the whale, seeing that it was creating another ray of light, this time much more powerful than before.

"Can you redirect that?"

"No"

Immediately after hearing her answer Lena shot more arrows towards the monster, trying to stop the process, but it didn't affect it in any way, it continued to create the ray of light.

"Let's run," Lena said after seeing her failed attempt.

Emily only agreed and started running away from there, but before they could left the place, they heard a voice shouting to them:

"Stay there!"

They looked up and saw Ella, who's now fully awake, floating in the sky, and besides her was Julie using a flame spirit to fly. Both the girls got between the whale and the Sky city, and prepared a counterattack.

With her sword in hands, Julie drawn in the air a circle, as she chanted, "Circle of fire"

A circle that resembles a ring made of flames appeared in the sky. At the same time the whale shot the ray of light, the two attacks collided, light against fire, and it was clearly who was going to win. Alone, Julie stands no chance.

But Ella was there as well, she boosted the potency of the Circle of fire using her own wind magic, the two girls together managed to stall for some time against the ray of light. Though it was only a single minute.

But that was all they needed, Emily who noticed the shock between the two attacks waited for the best opportunity, and jumped towards the ray of light once she saw that the ray of light lost its whole potency.

Using her innate magic she redirect the attack towards the sky once again, and before she could fall, Ella used her wind magic and took her back towards the tower with Lena, and Julie followed them.

Landing there, Lena was the first to ask, "Any news on Liam?"

Julie shakes her head, "No"

"What about Lucas?"

"He's basically useless now"

Ella sighed, stressed, "We need to find a way to reach the whale, only me and Julie can approach it, and we are not enough, even more now that we know that the White Whale knows Renewal"

"Lucas is out, but his attack caused major damage to the whale, it must have used tons of mana to use Renewal, its ray of lights are also getting weaker" Emily said.

"But it's no use if we can't get close enough to kill it"

Suddenly their attention drifted towards their side, where they heard and sensed someone climbing the tower. It was a boy of golden eyes.

"Liam" Emily said as she approached him, "Did you get the weapon?"

The boy nodded, not explaining the details, "Yeah, but look, there's a small problem"

"What?"

He pointed towards the edge of the Sky city and there they saw two figures standing near the edge, it was Leo holding a box in hands, and Samuel holding a huge harpoon connected to the box in Leo's hands, by a magical rope.

Then, Samuel gathered his strength and threw the harpoon towards the whale, which only noticed the attack once the harpoon pierced its stomach. At the same moment, Leo threw the box from the edge, letting it fall to the ground, and the rope followed, stretching infinitely.

No one was able to discern what was happening, but after a minute or two, all of a sudden, the White Whale was pulled down by the harpoon in its stomach towards the ground. Using its own strength, the whale started to resist the force pulling it down.

"What's happening?" Julie asked.

"That's the weapon" Liam begins explaining, "That's a magic harpoon. Once it comes in contact with the White Whale, it only releases when the weapon is deactivated. The box is connects itself to the ground, and it will pull the whale until it reaches the ground"

Before the girls could celebrate, Liam added, "Or that's what it was supposed to do"

They looked at him and he chuckled a bit, "The weapon is broken, we managed to fix it, but not completely, all functions of the weapon are working, but the box has not enough strength to pull the whale on its own"

Julie sighed and blamed herself for believing that things would be so easy for them, and asked:

"What do we need to do?"

"We'll need to take the whale to the ground"
