"What?" Maybelle asked, astounded.

"I mean literally, as I am standing here, do you—"

"No," Effer deduced. "If not for the darkness in my arm, I wouldn't even have been able to sense you. Aside from that, I have no other means of feeling you out. Hence, I cannot smell you either."

"I don't sense a thing." Maybelle folded her arms. "Why do you ask?"

I frowned. "Slin said he could smell me. He sniffed and sniffed at me relentlessly, telling me I smelled nice!"

Effer and Maybelle frowned.

Maybelle started, "They do perceive some kind of smell from whomever they are interested in, or rather, the pheromones that person exudes—it's something only they can sense…"

"But that shouldn't be the case with you," Effer finished.

"Well, when next you meet, ask him what you smell like," Maybelle added and Effer straightened, turning away from us and heading towards the entrance.
