38 Finally Broke Up

In the following days, Moira's presence could frequently be seen in newspapers and on the radio. Today she talked about the city's future plans, and tomorrow she would talk about how many criminals were apprehended and how much contraband was confiscated.

For the moment, Moira gave off the feeling of being the future star of Starling City. Thea wasn't surprised by her mother's sudden burst of enthusiasm. Some people were born for politics but were buried by various realities. When the opportunity arose, they would soar.

What surprised Thea, however, was that due to Moira's sudden burst of political enthusiasm, there was a slight strain in her relationship with Walter Steele.

Moira was so busy that she didn't even have time for her daughter, let alone her boyfriend. Thea actually supported this attitude. Although Walter was a really nice guy, marrying him would essentially mean finding herself with another stepfather, which Thea couldn't quite accept. So she thought they should just maintain their relationship as lovers!

Just after completing an interview with a media outlet, Moira, despite being physically tired, her spirits were high. Through this period of intense activity, she had come to realize that she couldn't be a successful businesswoman, or at least she didn't have that talent. Her aides had subtly suggested that she give up business and try her hand at politics instead.

She wanted to hear what her family members thought about her entering politics. Of course, in her mind, her family members consisted of one and a half people: Thea counted as one, and Walter counted as half.

"Thea, I've been so busy lately. I hope you don't blame me for stealing your thunder," Moira whispered as they lay on the bed. Young people always enjoyed being in the limelight.

"Why would I? If it were me on stage, I would have messed up long ago. You're at least ninety percent responsible for today's success," Thea replied. Indeed, Thea had only made a few phone calls and chatted with a few people. If anyone deserved credit, it was Felicity.

Mother and daughter hugged each other, and Moira carefully examined her daughter's expression. She found no resentment in her eyes, which relieved her. She had initially thought it was just a routine meeting, but she hadn't expected such a big change afterwards. If her relationship with her daughter were to be damaged over such a trivial matter, it would be too unworthy in her eyes.

"What do you think of me entering politics? I've been feeling so comfortable and happy these past few days. It's a completely different feeling from being at the company," Moira said eagerly, looking at Thea.

Great, you're finally on this path! Thea wanted to shout and pound the wall in excitement. Her own mother was as shrewd as they came, and with the two of them meeting every day, it was harder to fool her than Malcolm. After all the effort and some coincidences, she had finally managed to get her mother onto the political path earlier than expected.

That's what she thought, but she couldn't say it honestly. "Go ahead, try your hand at politics if you think it's suitable for you. Maybe if you become a big shot, I'll have some prestige too! By the way, what about your relationship with Walter if you leave the company?"

If this were a mother-daughter conversation about a stepfather in Asia, it would definitely be awkward, but it was quite normal here.

Moira had thought about this question before. While political figures may not have a spotless reputation, they maintain an appearance of cleanliness. With her husband and son deceased, it was a good time to play the sympathy card. If news suddenly broke of her remarriage, her reputation wouldn't be completely ruined, but it wouldn't be much better either.

After some hesitation, she said, "Let's maintain the status quo for now."

Thea understood immediately. This was the American version of cutting ties cleanly! This woman was really decisive. Perhaps when she sent her husband and son out to sea, she had the same mentality.

Thea silently mourned for a second for the warm-hearted uncle Walter. The crisis with her stepfather was finally resolved. In the original plot, they didn't produce any love children, but what if, under her little butterfly wings, they ended up having a brother or sister for her?

Three siblings sharing three different biological fathers and one mother—it was too messy to even think about. It was best to kill off such a melodramatic storyline from the start.

With her mother entering politics and her stepfather being driven away, both objectives were accomplished. Mission accomplished! Thea planted a heavy kiss on her mother's cheek. "You silly girl," Moira said affectionately, patting her on the back.

In the following days, Moira began gradually handing over the affairs of the company to Walter. Although their marriage was currently a bit uncertain, there was still enough trust between them. Moira was preparing to have him take over as the CEO of the company.

Although Walter didn't know why Moira suddenly became distant towards him, he thought it was because he wasn't determined enough and his attitude wasn't sincere. He was determined to persist and maintain their relationship.

Meanwhile, Thea was also handing over her responsibilities at work because her acceptance letter from Princeton had arrived. Unlike in China where there were ceremonies and speeches for starting school, here she could come and go as she pleased, as long as she accumulated enough credits to graduate.

She handed over all the work in the software department to Felicity and reported to the company to appoint her as her successor. When Felicity heard that she was expected to rewrite the facial recognition software from version 1.0 to 6.0, she completely lost it.

She refused to do such a dull, passionless job. Since the Queen family had plenty of money, they probably wouldn't mind spending a bit more. On her first day in charge, she hired thirty employees for the software department. Her original three subordinates all received promotions, each now overseeing ten employees. She planned to write slowly.

Thea's Glider testing had entered its final stage. She planned to finish this job before leaving Starling City and make a big splash! She was so broke she was going mad. This technology was too expensive! She had already spent all her pocket money. If it weren't for Felicity often treating her to meals when she saw how destitute she was, she might have starved!

"Thea, why did you name it the Red Arrow Glider? What do you think about the Green Arrow Glider?" The two women argued over what color to spray the Glider in.

"Red is great! It's passionate, sunny, and cheerful. Isn't red the color of warmth?" Thea thought green should be left for her older brother.

Felicity furrowed her brow and hesitantly said, "Isn't red the color of violence and blood?"

"How did you come to that conclusion!? I think green represents decay and obsolescence!"
