61 Invasion (1)

On the outskirts of the continent lies the Kafna Kingdom. This kingdom is renown for its strong military and magical barriers.

For more than 500 years, they had protected their home from invaders, monsters, and other kingdoms.

A while ago, the King of Kafna received a message from his intelligence squat: "A monster horde was going to hit the kingdom.".

Every year, they prepare for this event, some with joy on their faces for the rewards, others with hatred for past experiences, and others with terror from the trauma.

One thing was certain: most of them weren't afraid. The reason they weren't afraid is pretty simple if you look at the layout of the kingdom.

The Royal Capital was in the middle, fortified with magic barriers and a strong stone wall. The rest of the kingdom was expanded outward, putting strategic fortresses along the way, and the further you went from the capital, the more powerful the warriors and barriers became.

Countless soldiers, invaders, and monsters have never seen the capital before they were slayed.

But this time was different. Two days ago, a new piece of intelligence reached the Royal Capital: "The monsters destroyed the first fortress and are advancing to the capital.".

This news brought something that was lost to the Kingdom many years ago: fear.

Due to this, the King ordered a high state of emergency and mobilized his whole army along with his spies to get a better understanding of the situation.

The spies returned with a piece of information: "This time the monsters weren't randomly gathered nor were influenced by a named monster, or a king or lord; no, they were specifically led by demons.".

This piece of news shocked the King. The last demon sighting was 600 years ago, long before the kingdom was even formed, but as a King, he needed to deal with this situation: first put up a defense line to buy time; second, contact the other kingdoms to warn them and to ask for reinforcements.

Unfortunately, no matter how much he tried, the other kingdoms never answered, not because they wanted his kingdom to perish; no, the reason was because right now they were facing the same problem.

Every kingdom on the outskirts of the continent was facing a massive horde of monsters controlled by demons.

"I need to wear sunglasses..."

Isaac looked around, having recovered his vision from the bright light that engulfed him a while ago.

"So, where am I?"

He looked to the right, then to the left, at only stone walls with tourches. Then he looked in front of him, and there was a metal door with intriguing patterns on it. Two tourches illuminated this door.

He looked at the floor, and it finally clicked.

"A runic pattern, this is a transfer?, no, teleportation circle, ah, I see this is a scape room, interesting..."

As he stopped to analyze the circle, outside, things were a little more chaotic.

"Hmm?, I hear battle; let's take a closer look."

He moved to the metal door, and with a push...

*Creak*

...the door open.

*Giaagh*

*Crack*

*Boom*

"Hold the line!" (Commander)

*Boom*

"No!"(Soldier)

*Splash*

*Slice*

"Ughh.."(Soldier)

"Robert no!..." (Soldier)

Chaos engulfed the fortress. The warriors and mages were trying to repeal the horde, but it was useless. There were too many monsters, and the casualties skyrocketed in no time.

Seeing the situation worsen by the second, the commander didn't have any other option.

"Shit, we need to retreat further, tanks! Make us room, healers on the back, mages prepare to attack!" (Commander)

"Yes sir!" ×50 (Soldiers)

The soldiers left answer; they were originally 5,000 strong, but now only 50 remain.

After carefully making their move, they successfully retreated to the inner parts of the fortress, but they knew that all was lost; the walls would not last, and as for the teleportation room, it was already used by the families and important people.

"Ugh.."

*Huff*

*Sigh*

"Haa, haa..."

Everyone was gathered in the lower part of the fortress, close to the soldier's barracks and teleportation room.

Exhaustion was visible on everyone's faces; they knew as well as he that this was the end; no reinforcements were coming; they were alone.

*BANG*

*BANG*

*BANG*

And by the sound of it, they will not be alive for much longer.

*Creack*

Suddenly, a sound behind them startled some of the soldiers.

"What's that!?" (Soldier)

"Gather around!" (Commander)

Fearing that monsters or demons had already infiltrated the fortress, they picked themselves up and formed a circle covering the front and back.

*Tap* *Tap* *Tap*

The sound of footsteps put everyone on edge, and soon they saw the one walking towards them.

It was a person, this person was dressed as a mage with an interesting staff; he was walking slowly as if the horde outside wasn't his problem.

"Stop! Who are you!?" (Commander)

(Well, they all seem tired and extremely tense. Hmm, I need more information.)

"My apologies..."

Isaac made a little bow.

"I'm Isaac, a traveling mage; unfortunately, I was caught up in an accident."

*Crash*

"Raaghh!"

Trying to sound sincere, I try to explain further, but something interrupted our introduction.

"Commander, they broke through!" (Soldier)

In front of us a couple of metal doors were busted open by a strange animal.

(That's...no way... it's a...)

"Shit, a minotaur, tanks!" (Commander)

As soon as the commander spoke, a line of tanks was formed in front of the minotaur.

"Healers!"(Commander)

Now the healers formed behind them.

"Oh, Great Goodess, grant us your protection in this time of Need:[Major Protection]"(Healers)

(Hmm?, a chant?, interesting...)

A golden light engulfs the tanks right when the minotaurs started charging into them.

*BANG*

The line successfully stopped the charging of the minotaur.

"Mages!"(Commander)

A dozen mages put their staffs in front of them.

"[Great Fire Ball]"

"[Incinerate]"

"[Hell Fire]"

They started firing all kinds of spells, mostly fire-related ones.

(Hmm, so he's weak against fire.)

I pointed at him with my staff.

"[Flaming Skull]"

*Giiagh*

From the tip of my staff, a magic circle formed and a scarlet-red flame skull launched itself into the minotaur.

*Bang*

"Huuuaggh!"

As soon as my spell touched the skinn of the monster, its hole body ignited into the same scarlet flame.

*Tssi*

It only took a couple of seconds for the body to be reduced to ashes.

"...."

Everyone turned their heads to look at me, shocked, clearly visible on their faces.

"What?"
