16 Bandit's Camp Aftermath

[Dungeon Quest]

[Capture or kill 10/10 bandits.]

[Rescue the Hostages 5/5...complete]

(Baaarrfff) "Huh...Huh...Huh." Right now I'm throwing my stomach out. Although I was mentally prepared for this, now that the anger and adrenaline are gone, I couldn't handle the smell of iron, burnt skin, and sh*t.

"First time killing someone?"

"Yeah..Huuff"

"Huh..huh..huh..h..how are the hostages?"

"The five female humans are fine, but I didn't find my target."

"Hmm... maybe in the boss tent?"

"That's exactly what I'm thinking."

I'm trying my best to stay composed, and for that, I need to distract myself with something. What better than finding her target?

We approach the bigger tent at the back of the camp where the boss came out; it was way too big for only one person; there's got to be something there.

{Hmm...if I were a robber, I would put my haul close to me}

When we entered the tent, we saw in the middle of the tent a desk with books and maps; on the right were a lot of chests; and on the left was a big bed. In that bed, there was a young girl, not older than 15 years old.

"Milia..."

Hearing her name, the girl looked up, and when she recognized the person in front of her, she started crying her eyes out.

"t..t..ta..tannya...(Waaaa!!)"

Tannya quickly went to hug her and calm her down, but by the looks of it, it's going to take a while.

Meanwhile, I went to the desk in the middle to see what books and maps were there.

{Hmmm...these are trade routes with their schedule..so that's how they rob people, but I doubt that this was done by them}

The maps were very specific about when, where, and who would be in the caravan, and in one particular map, it had the route of the resent robbery.

{Hmm...this one says specifically to kidnap the girl and to kill any witnesses, so this was not a normal robbery; it also confirmed that these bandits were not working alone}

Leaving the maps for now, I focus my attention on the books, and I find some surprises. Apparently,  there were tomes instead of regular books, magic tomes.

{[Haste] [Blood Sacrifice] [Ghost Step] mmh? Isn't this the skill that the boss used? ...wait, no, to be more precise, he just recently learned that this was payment for the kidnapping. So who gave him these tomes?}

"What did you get there?"

"Huh? Ah, some magic tomes; these two were used by the boss in our fight; also, there's something you need to see." I point to the map with the information about the caravan.

For a while, she said nothing, and until she started to clench her fist, I can see the muscles in her arms. Damn, I don't want to get hit by them.

"Those bastards!!"

"So you know who gave them the information about the caravan?"

"I had my suspicion, but I have no evidence, and even the map has no names on it."

"True, but if the target that you're protecting is important and the information about her caravan is confidential, you can rule it out quickly, isn't it?"

"Ha, I wish, it's not that simple; human politics are nasty business."

{indeed}

"Well, focus on the good thing; we rescue her, and that's what matters."

(sigh) " You're right."

She put the map in her pocket, and for a moment she started to see the magic tomes, but she became bored by them and went to see the chests to the right.

"Have you seen what's on here?"

"Nope, if it's clothes, I want them, but if it's money or gems, give them to the hostages."

"You serious?" She turned her head to see my face.

"Yeah, I have no use for it anyway, and you need compensation for helping me with the quest, don't you?"

Seen that my look was sincere, she just turned her head to see the chests, and she started to open them one by one. Indeed,  there were coins, a lot of them; there were also gems and ores; unfortunately, no clothes or equipment.

{Right! Now that I think about it, I need to check the body of the boss to get that equipment that can destroy magic, but first I need to check on the spells}

[Haste: Reset the cooldown time of one skill, consumable, or piece of equipment (couldn't exceed 3 minutes) (50 mind required)]

{Hmm?...this spell required attribute points? What about the other two?}

[Blood Sacrifice: Use your own blood to empower a skill, increasing its damage by 20%; it may have a 30% chance to cause bleeding to the target (Cooldown 5 minute) (50 body required)]

[Ghost Step: allows you to make a move untraceable by the human eye (cooldown 5 seconds)] (50 body and 20 mind required)

{It does require attribute points..hmm.. i see, it's limiting the quantity of skills that a person can learn, but at the same time it compensates with quality}

"Are you sure you don't want any of this?"

Tannya brought me back from my thoughts; she was pointing at the open chests full of gold, silver, bronze, and gems.

"Yeah, in exchange, I want these tomes and the equipment the boss is wearing."

"Deal"

Coming to an agreement, I left the boss tent and went to where his body was. He had the head all the way to his back, and the spinal cord was visible to the eye.

{This is going to be gross}

After I stripped his entire body, I found what I was looking for and more.

[Ring of the Fighter: Gain protection against spells (2% for every 5 body attribute points)]

[Necklace of the Initiate: Gain 15 Mind Attribute Points]

{He also had a necklace, so this helped him learn the ghost step skill, i presume}

"Anything good?"

I heard Tannya behind me, and when I turned around, I saw her with the young girl behind her. She was still shivering and couldn't make eye contact.

"Very. Now what will you do?"

"Me? I will wait here; her brother is coming as we speak, and besides, the human females are still frightened to go out."

"Right, I hope the money helps them forget."

"It will be helpful."

"Well, then I think I need to go. My master is waiting for me to receive the news."

"So you're going to leave a bunch of defenseless women all by themselves?"

"Hmm, you have a point. Alright,  as soon as I hear the cavalry, I'm out."

"Very well"

After that, I just kept looking through the bodies of the bandits; unfortunately, no one had anything good, and checking the other tents got the same results.

The hostages were moved to the boss tent with the haul; at first, they couldn't believe it, but when Tannya and I said that we both agreed to give some of the money to them, they began to cry again. I couldn't stand it, so I just left the tent.

{The random quest is not complete yet, so I need to wait until her brother arrives}..(sigh)

"T..Tha.. Thank you for rescuing us."

A tiny voice interrupted my internal monologue. When I look for the origin of the noise, I saw the target of Tannya, the young girl [Milia]. She was a red-headed girl, 5 feet tall, with milky white skin, blue eyes, and little freckles on the nose and cheeks.

"You're welcome. Well, you don't need to thank me; I also had a quest for these bandits, so my reasons weren't that pure."

"It doesn't matter why; what matters is that you did." Suddenly, when she was speaking, her eyes turned golden, along with her hair.

"Soul that came from the Void beyond, the task will leave only you alone, for those you save will become the light to the darkness that will come back."

"What?"

"Milia!!"

I saw Tannya running, catching Milia, who was going to fall to the ground. She is now unconscious by the looks of it.

"What did she tell you?"

"Eh? Something about saving people will become the light from some darkness that will come."

Tannya didn't say anything, so I knew something was up, so I asked.

"Is she a prophet? or something along those lines?" She only nodded her head.

(Nieeeeghhh)x4

Suddenly, I heard horses along with the system notification of quest completion, and I knew my time in this dungeon was coming to an end.

{Well, I hope I get to see them again.

The world came to a halt, and a door came from the ground. With a flash of light, I was in my room again.

It's been a week since I completed the dungeon, and I found out that the skill [photographic memory] is a blessing and also a curse. For one, I can become anything I want; coursing through high school and even college will be easy.

The downside is that I can't forget anything, meaning I remember how those bandits were screaming, the smell of burnt flesh, the sound of the boss's head snapping, every single detail, and it's haunting me.

So I decide to talk to my parents about it. After all, I don't think I'm strong enough right now to deal with this; maybe in the future, but for now, I need to talk to them.

(sight)...{How in the hell am I going to explain this to them? It's not like I'm going to say, Hey mom, Hey dad, I kill someone}

"Everything alright, champ?" my father asked me while we were eating dinner.

"Mom, Dad, I think we need to talk."
