15 Chapter 14

-[Evan]-

While guards rushed towards the entrance to investigate the scene, a disguised Evan and Lucas made their way deeper into the building.

"How do you want to handle this?" Lucas whispered to Evan as they neared another checkpoint with an armed guard by it.

"Well we don't have a lot of time until they realize that it was a false alarm." Evan pointed out, mentally reaching out to the cameras and shutting them down.

"Violence it is." Lucas muttered, immediately pulling out a gun and pulling the trigger. A green blast shooting into him and shocking him into unconsciousness.

The lights on the security point changed from red to green, allowing them to pass freely.

"I want some pizza after this." Lucas said, almost drooling at the thought, causing Evan to roll his eyes.

-[Artemis]-

"You said you wanted to explain. Explain." Artemis demanded, arms crossed as she stood opposite her mother.

Paula let out a defeated sigh. "It was back when I was still associated with the league of shadows." She started, getting her daughter's attention.

"The shadows hired your father and I for a job. A man and a woman, two traitors from the league and they wanted them dead. The pay was high enough that your father didn't hesitate to accept."

Artemis hung on every word her mother said, not wanting to miss even the slightest detail.

"We didn't need to track them. The league gave us their location and we got to work. They put up a good fight. Your father and I got separated at some point during the fight, leaving me in a room with the woman bleeding to death…and a crib with a crying baby in it." Paula said, causing Artemis' breath to hitch.

"She begged for me to spare her child's life. I wanted to ignore her but I just couldn't. When I looked at him, I was reminded of Jade, my own daughter." Paula said, her voice wavering a bit as she took a breath to stabilize herself. "She begged me to keep him safe…to make sure the shadows don't get a hold of him so I dropped him off at the closest shelter."

At this point, Artemis had a confused look amidst her disappointment . "I can't believe you! You just threw him out there?! I get that they're traitors but what would they want with a baby?" The blonde asked.

Paula shook her head. "She wanted to keep him away from his father; Ra's al Ghul."

-[Evan]-

After numerous checkpoints and switching of disguises, the two finally found themselves in the server room.

"Eureka. I thought we'd never get here." Lucas said sardonically as Evan got to work.

Opening the boxes that housed the servers, he analyzed the wires and components within moments.

While Lucas stayed on lookout, Evan stuck the small device he got from Felicity in the server box.

In a few seconds, his communicator came to life in his ear. "We're in. We now have full access to Star Lab servers not only in Star City but also Taos , Gotham and all the others." Felicity informed Evan as he pulled out another small device reminiscent of a thumb drive.

"That's good." He responded, plugging it in and watching the end light up a red color.

'You can never be too cautious.' He thought, waiting for a moment.

"Anytime now!" Lucas called out to him from the entrance.

A few moments later, the drive lit up green, signaling for Evan to quickly pull it out and store it on his person.

"Did you get it?" Lucas asked as he and Evan exited, making their way out.

"That and a bit more. Robin Hood hasn't shown up yet so we're in the clear." Evan said as they quickly walked past unconscious guards.

"Well bad news. They found the guard in the janitor's closet and now they're searching the building." Felicity informed them, causing Evan to stifle a groan.

"What's the good news?" Lucas asked as they found themselves at the emergency exit Lucas had come in through.

"The green Arrow isn't here. More bad news, Red Arrow is here." Felicity said as they opened the door, freezing as they found themselves facing Red Arrow in all his glory, facing an already notched arrow towards them.

"Hands in the air! Now!" The teen hero ordered.

Felicity had panicked and overreacted and triggered the alarm earlier. What she did would no doubt garner attention with the amount of crimes she included into his list of 'crimes'.

"Of course." Evan cursed, sounding tired of it all. This mission was supposed to clear his head. It was why he didn't use his speed so far but he knew when to call it.

They'd gotten what they came for so there was no reason to linger much longer.

"I don't think so!" Lucas retorted to Red Arrow's command, quickly drawing his gun and firing at the archer who also released the arrow into the air, causing them both to scramble into a dodge.

Evan moved like an imperceptible blur to the red archer, getting behind him and firing two twice at his back.

Red Arrow let out a brief shriek of shock and pain before going down to the floor, unconscious. Lucas turned to look at Evan with a look of concern.

Before he could voice his thoughts, Evan had already turned away, leading him away from the scene.

Evan then paused, walking back to the unconscious hero before fiddling with his watch. A holographic light was emitted and washed over the unconscious archer, scanning him.

His actions got a raised eyebrow from Lucas. "You never know what face you'll need until you need it." Evan defended as they quickly left towards the car.

It didn't take them time to find the car and for Lucas to begin driving away.

"I can say this is a mission well done. Don't you agree?" Lucas asked with a smile. "We've never done something like this together before. Be excited!"

Despite his attempts to cheer Evan up, he only got a slight smile before even that was gone. "Yeah, I guess you're right."

He'd let out some steam but it wasn't enough. He wanted to punch something to vent out his frustration but he would just have to wait for another time.
