Chapter 66: Troubled City

[3rd POV]

"Bombarda Maxima!"

It had been restless in the only school of magic in Britain ever since the selection of the champion in the Triwizard Tournament and the exposure of fake Moody.

The Room of Requirement, where Hermione was training with a mess of hair was even more frightening from her exertions.

A spell was uttered, and magic burst from the end of the girl's wand, crashing into a dragon-shaped dummy with a bang.

"Confringo!"

The next spell flew much faster and, hitting the dummy, exploded with a burst of flames leaving a black mark on it.

"Duro!"

The tip of her wand was directed at a pair of nearby shoes that had hardened and turned into stone.

"Geminio!"

A dozen copies of the petrified shoes were created.

"Engorgio!"

Then all the shoes suddenly grew to the size of car tires.

"Depulso!"

Then another spell, but this time, one of the shoes hurtled towards the dummy at high speed while crashing into it with a bang.

Hermione kept throwing petrified shoes at the dummy.

"Alright, that's enough of that."

Hermione nodded to herself when she realized she had done quite a number on the dragon dummy.

After all, dragons have a formidable magical defense in the form of their scales, and directly casting spells at them is ineffective.

"Now, as for the Dementors... inhale-exhale, focus on the target, and believe in your abilities..."

She muttered to herself while closing her eyes for a moment.

"Expecto Patronum!"

She exclaimed while correctly waving her wand, which emitted a dazzling white and then bluish light, enveloping the entire room and providing feelings of safety and calmness.

She had been trying this spell for some time now after reading all the books, studying the materials, and practicing other spells.

The wand light began to take the form of some animal, something like...

"An otter?"

Hermione whispered, not entirely sure, but the hazy figure of the animal dissipated in the light at that moment.

"Hmm, it's definitely harder to sustain than a regular spell."

She exhaled while adjusting her hair sticking to her wet forehead.

Lately, she has been more reflective than usual.

The world she had visited was dangerous, and if it hadn't been for Tony's suit, she could hardly have done anything there.

At this moment, she was watching Shinoa's broadcast in her world, and she could not follow the vampires' movement or even some of the humans.

She was regarded as the most intelligent witch of her generation in her world, but so what?

It wouldn't help her fight against even a regular vampire, especially a noble who could destroy Hogwarts with a few movements, let alone a Seraphim.

The aura didn't help either.

The young and inexperienced Hermione remembered some pictures sent by Shinoa.

She could see the sleeping face of their Administrator, along with his toned abs, well-defined muscles, strong hands, and...

"Oh, what am I thinking? That Shinoa... such a pervert."

Hermione muttered unconsciously while using a spell to adjust her hair. Recently, Hermione had bought one thing in the shop:

Spell Talent (C) — 600 CP

After that, learning new spells became much easier as if she intuitively understood how to twist her wrist and guide her wand.

But she felt like this wasn't enough when she saw how strong people like Anthony, vampire nobles, demons, and many others were in Rias's world.

She herself didn't notice that she was already capable of defeating almost anyone in Hogwarts simply by using spells and her immense magical reserve.

...

[Anthony's POV]

Gotham keeps surprising me. I was away for only three days, and a real war between criminal gangs broke out on the streets of the city.

Then, a bunch of "freaks" decided to show off their creations in the city.

I'm talking about the Riddler who set traps for Batman in the city and also organized an illegal underground TV show called "Riddle Factory".

This is where each participant is trapped in a deadly riddle, and they need to solve it to escape.

"According to the information received from the Penguin, there is also the Falcone family involved in drug trafficking that is still resisting the Black Mask and the False Face Society, but he is seizing power too quickly and aggressively."

Cortana explained when I asked what else she knew about what was happening.

"The Russian mafia, the Bertinelli family, the Riley family, and many others are currently fighting among themselves. There are currently thirty-five killed police officers in the city and eighty-nine wounded."

Cortana continued.

"I suppose Lena didn't know about this?"

I asked because I didn't really believe it.

"Your sister learned about this from the TV; the news about what's happening in Gotham is gaining popularity."

Cortana replied.

"The information has been updated. There was an attack on Arkham Asylum, and many inmates have escaped."

"Well, the mouse has a lot of work to do."

I shook my head.

"Aren't you going to help?"

Shinoa asked me this question while carefully watching our conversation and the video feed of what was happening on the screens that Cortana showed.

"Well, Lena and I have a building in Gotham that we bought, and we were thinking of making it a branch of LuthorCorp, but we still haven't seen it."

I said it aloud.

"Cortana, where is my sister now?"

"She's in her office."

Cortana gave me an immediate answer.

"Then I'm going to her."

I nodded.

"Do you love your sister that much?"

Shinoa smirked, and I fell silent... not knowing how to react.

I nodded and decided to teleport to Lena's office and make sure there was no one else besides her after that.

As soon as I appeared in her office, Lena instinctively turned towards me while holding the phone to her ear with her shirt slightly unbuttoned, revealing a beautiful view of her cleavage, and she looked extremely sexy...

"... We'll talk later; I have urgent matters to attend to."

She hung up and smiled, lighting up the whole room.

"You finally came back."

Lena shook her head and, with a smile on her beautiful face, stood up from behind the desk to approach me and kiss me.

I couldn't resist and immediately deepened the kiss, and my hands squeezed her beautiful butt.

"Administrator-kun, of course, I thought you loved your sister, but I didn't think it was this much."

Shinoa commented about who was standing behind me, but Lena didn't immediately notice.

After those words, Lena stepped back and glanced at Shinoa.

...

"So, you went to some other world and came back with a schoolgirl... I hope there's no interdimensional police after you?"

Lena joked while trying to conceal her awkwardness.

"I'm already sixteen, so I can do adult things... just like you."

Shinoa licked her lips.

"So, you're his sister, right? And at the same time, his girlfriend? Is that normal in this world?"

Shinoa asked.

"Um, maybe it was like that before... but not really."

Lena spoke, exhaling.

"I'm glad you're back, Tony... but you could have warned me if you brought someone along.

Lena gently ran her hand over my chest which indicated she wanted more.

"Uh, have you heard about Gotham?"

"Cortana told me."

I nodded while embracing her and sitting with her on the couch.

Meanwhile, Shinoa continued to smile suggestively... and sitting on the other couch, she made it clear with her behavior that she didn't mind their relationship.

"Are you... going to do something about it?"

Lena asked and rested her head on my chest.

"Should I?"

I tilted my head and gently kissed her on the forehead, and I think I heard a jealous whimper from Shinoa.

"I... I don't know. You're a magician, and magicians protect people, so why isn't anyone intervening? The city is literally overrun by gunfights and criminals, with people dying every hour..."

"Lena, people die every second all over the world, and magicians... they don't care about these happenings. If demons attacked the city or cultists started slaughtering people then someone would respond. But like this..."

"Hm."

A slightly dissatisfied sound escaped from her cute mouth, which I quickly covered with a kiss.

"I already informed the media that I intend to help the victims on behalf of the company."

Lena whispered.

"That's right, we have enough resources."

I nodded.

"I believe we have a building in Gotham, isn't that right?"

"Yeah... but we had enough other concerns, and for now, it's just a building we own. Do you have any ideas on what to do with it?"

"Hmm, maybe?"

I said it uncertainly while thinking.

"We'll see. But for now, Cortana, do you have footage from Arkham Asylum?"

I asked, and Cortana immediately displayed footage on the screen hanging on the wall.

It showed an explosion and people in strange masks shooting the guards, and among them was a tall man in a mask with some device on his back, with tubes leading from it to his suit.

"Horrible..."

Lena whispered.

"Are we going to help the city?"

Shinoa asked.

"I'm not against it, it's not vampire hunting, but I'll do it."

"Vampire hunting?"

Lena redirected her gaze to Shinoa.

"Uh, yeah, vampire hunting. Anyway, I heard there are masked heroes here? Maybe I can become a heroine too, Administator-kun?"

Shinoa's look expressed cheerfulness.

After all, it wasn't her place to talk about death. She lived in a world where death was a typical thing.

What was happening in Gotham didn't particularly affect her.

"Do you want to become a heroine, wear an uncomfortable suit, wander around at night, who knows where, and catch criminals?"

I asked her again.

"Um, well, you could make the suit more comfortable for me... I'm new to this world, so maybe it's not necessary right away. However, I like the idea and can't be an ordinary Japanese schoolgirl anymore."

"Do you really need it, though?"

I couldn't help but sigh sadly.

"Why not? It sounds interesting."

Shinoa shrugged.

"Anyway, it's more interesting than being a regular Japanese schoolgirl... By the way, what language are we speaking?"

"English..."

Lena looked at her strangely.

"Oh..."

Shinoa said.

I tried to stay away from Gotham in the past, but now I don't need to do that anymore. It's better to deal with people who can cause huge problems.

I'm talking about the Joker, and it's best to get rid of him once and for all. There are lots of other freaks out there too.

Afterward, we really need to focus on charity and helping the victims. I already feel like a maniac because of all the killings...

"Okay, we'll help Gotham. Lena, write to the mayor that LuthorCorp will help Gotham with technology and weapons."

I said and getting up from the couch.

"And we'll go deal with the maniacs who have taken over the city."

"Are you sure?"

Lena asked clearly unsure how to react to this.

"I did ask you if you were going to do something about it, but I didn't mean direct intervention. There are hundreds of people with weapons, disguised freaks with unclear plans..."

She was clearly scared by such a possibility, but apparently she remembered what I was capable of...

"Oh... just be careful. I love you... even though I know you're not an ordinary person."

Lena sighed.

"Um, once you've sorted things out there, come back, and we'll need to talk."

Lena said.

In Gotham, I teleported Shinoa and myself while giving her a dose of nanorobots before concealing her identity by creating a mask.

I was also wearing a mask myself, so I wasn't worried about my identity being revealed.

Gotham itself is as usual, wasn't exactly colorful, and in the sky the symbol of the bat was visible.

"What's that?"

Shinoa asked curiously.

"That's how the police summon Batman."

I replied after a moment.

"Ah, that guy in the bat costume?"

Shinoa said with a smirk.''

"I can definitely do better..."

Shinoa muttered quietly.

"Let's go. Our target is currently planning some tricks for the chemical plan."

I said this as Cortana transmitted Joker's coordinates to me.

After all, he's one of the most unpredictable villains, so it's better to take him out first.

Now I'm talking like a maniac...

"Are we going to kill him?"

Shinoa asked.

"Do you want to send him to prison?"

I glanced at her.

"Well, it depends on what he's done. However, we punished criminals very harshly because there were few people. So it doesn't matter to me."

Shinoa shrugged and jumped down from the rooftop of the building where we were standing.

Cortana sent the coordinates to me and Shinoa so she could see perfectly well where to go.
