44 Chapter 44: Metals

Words: 2,179

...

"Zatanna, we've met three times now, and we've been involved with demons and evil sorcerers selling their souls each time ."

I looked at Zatanna, who was already preparing to fight Felix.

As soon as the dagger fell to the ground and got splashed with Faust's blood, it began to tremble and emit demonic energy.

There's not much we can do...

"It's not my fault!"

She stomped her foot and yelled, sending the last cultist beside Faust flying into the wall with a strong gust of wind.

He won't be getting up based on the crash.

"Maybe not, but this is very uncomfortable."

I accepted her words.

At that moment, the dagger began to disintegrate into tiny particles and dissolve, but a black dot appeared in its place like a small black hole.

It grew to about three meters within a second and spewed out a blue-skinned demon.

Specifically, its spiritual shell.

"The Lord knew you couldn't handle it, worm. "

He looked at Felix Faust who was holding on to his cult, and... began to possess him with obvious disgust on his face.

"N-no, you promised... ag-r-r."

Felix began to reveal himself as the process of possession happened.

But Zatanna didn't watch any further and tried to freeze him, but it didn't work, and the ice melted instantly.

So I used my power over the earth and pierced Felix with dozens of earthy spikes that grew from below.

However, all these spikes began to decay rapidly.

"Demons... I don't know what's worse, them or those who trust them. "

I muttered and approached the morphing body of Faust to thrust my sword into his chest.

"Ah-r-r-r!"

He clearly didn't like the Eighth Metal. I'll have to be more mindful when dealing with these metals because they're too powerful.

It is fun to fight demons with pure magic, especially when the demon has about the same level of magical power as you or is slightly weaker.

I read that in the book of Thoth and in the book of Arion.

Moreover, the latter also wielded a weapon made of Eighth Metal with inclusions of Ninth Metal straight from the Dark Multiverse.

It's possible to gain godlike powers just by having this kind of metal—the ability to fly, regenerate, and even slightly influence reality.

The latter probably depends on the amount of Ninth Metal, which is a less concentrated and "pure" version of the Tenth Metal I don't know much about.

"I don't like demons."

With a wave of my hand, I cut his head, and the demon's core and Faust's soul burst out, apparently heading to Hell.

"We need a way to permanently kill them."

I said it out loud. Of course, I managed to kill their physical bodies and even injure their core, but I still didn't completely destroy them.

"The last time I was in Oblivion Bar, I heard that this Felix sold himself to the Cult of the Cold Flame."

Zatanna approached me.

"He's a fan of selling his soul."

I nodded.

"You do know that one of the founders of the Cult was your father, right?"

I glanced at Zatanna over my shoulder.

"W-what?"

Zatanna widened her eyes in shock.

"My father couldn't! That's a dark cult!"

"And you think your father was always a defender of order?"

I smiled but then looked at the dead people.

"Meht tcerruser!"

I said, but nothing happened.

"It doesn't work for me either."

Zatanna said.

"And what about my father?"

"Wait..."

I used alchemy to restore their bodies, but nothing happened again.

So I carved magical seals under their bodies and tried to forcefully return their souls to their bodies, but all I achieved was fatigue.

"Your mother..."

Apparently, sacrifices were needed for the erected barrier, and the souls of these sacrifices went... somewhere.

"There's nothing we can do now. According to the books, even my father couldn't fully resurrect someone without consequences."

There was regret, and even remorse flickered in Zatanna's eyes.

After all, two families of seven people became victims, and two of them were children.

"The gods could resurrect them with their power."

I said this while turning away from the whole body and simply splitting it into atoms with alchemy.

This once again shows how mortal we are.

It's good I teleported Lena and put some protective spells on her.

"You're not a god."

Zatanna said gloomily.

"No... not yet."

I whispered.

"Giovanni Zatara has lived on Earth for quite a long time. Many years ago, he and his friends felt almost omnipotent and founded their organization, the Cult of the Cold Flame. This cult was meant to create an army of magic users and make them gods... but your father eventually came to his senses for some reason and left. Later, he realized that he helped create sectarians playing with dark magic, sacrifices, and demonology, so he began to fight them."

I gave her a brief summary of Giovanni Zatara's story which I had read in his book.

"Perhaps there is this information somewhere in his notes."

"... maybe I haven't progressed that far in the books yet."

Zatanna waved her hand while returning the broken parts of the chairs to their places.

We still had a lot to talk about.

...

There were three people in a large hall with a calm and serene environment.

The first was Erina, with violet-pink eyes, honey-blonde hair, and an impressive figure with a bust that could shame many women.

She was dressed in a sports top and was concentrating on something.

The second person was an old man with gray hair, a beard, and a scar across his right eye.

He stood next to a tall man over two meters tall with wheat-blond hair and clearly visible muscle.

"This is something..."

The man standing next to the old man spoke. He was older than the old man, but anyone couldn't tell by looking at him.

"She's catching everything on the fly.

He said this while sensing Ki's movements around the girl.

"Of course she is because she's my granddaughter!"

The old man said it proudly.

"But still... I've never seen anyone reach the Low-Class Master level in martial arts without formal training."

He shook his head while scrutinizing Erina's figure.

"You know, Senzaemon, you're not lying to me about her, are you?"

"What? How dare you accuse The Food's Demon King like this?"

Senzaemon protested.

"I'm telling you, she just came to me a couple of days ago and said she wanted to learn how to fight. At first, I was surprised and suspected someone was bothering her."

After these words, the tall man felt a deadly Ki as if someone were very angry.

"But no, nothing like that happened. But still, Erina started acting a bit differently..."

"Hm."

The man nodded understandingly.

"My Miu also behaves strangely sometimes... I think it's teenage girl stuff."

"This is possible."

Senzaemon nodded.

"But the path of a Shokugeki?"

The old man hesitated slightly.

"Oh, the path of martial arts is never easy especially if you're aiming for the top. Your granddaughter has talent even now I sense a tremendous amount of Ki in her something I didn't have at her age... even in my twenties. And you know what's most impressive?"

The man asked.

"She instinctively uses the three primary uses of Ki: Invoking, Release, and Holding. I sense a field of Ki around her that simply won't let anyone harm her until she drains her energy reserves. This is without any training."

He explained.

"My granddaughters are the best, I knew that even without you."

Senzaemon snorted.

"Hmm, my Miu won't lose to your granddaughters."

The man grinned while clenching his fists.

"I'll stay at your place for three more days, and then I'll need to continue my journey. So I'm looking forward to being surprised by God's Tongue and the Demon King, ho-ho."

"Let's see how you "sing" after my dishes."

Senzaemon responded challengingly. Once again, Ki emanated from him in all directions, and his yukata slipped on his waist.

"These past few days, she has already learned to manage her Ki decently, but now it's important to teach her how to fight properly. With her current strength, she can fight off anyone below the Low-Class Master level. She's just faster and stronger than them, but a somewhat decent Master will easily understand that she lacks experience and defeat her. But a Shokugeki, ho-ho? I wonder where this path will lead her..."

"To becoming the best granddaughter."

Senzaemon chuckled causing Hayato Fūrinji's smile to fade slightly.

...

[Anthony's POV]

I returned home deep in thought, and Lena noticed, but she didn't bother me with questions and just hugged me.

Zatanna saw what I was capable of, so she didn't mind a couple of sessions together with me.

She didn't say exactly when, but we agreed that she would find me in Metropolis, and I gave her my phone number and the address of the building.

I felt empty and weak after leaving Gotham even though it didn't look like anyone had beaten me at all.

Meeting with two dark sorcerers, demons, and assassins... Gotham is a dangerous city.

This just proves that weak people die.

Those two families probably didn't expect to die after the show at the hands of a dark sorcerer...

"Cortana prepare room zero-four for the experiment."

I said it aloud.

"Understood. What kind of experiment?"

Cortana asked.

"Biological."

I said while walking into the room already set up with white walls, a roof, and a big table in the middle.

I created a plant pot with alchemy and pulled a Gachi card with a spider drawn from my inventory.

00 Spider OZ (C)

"This is a genetically modified spider with an interesting mutagen. Its bite should turn an ordinary person into a super soldier... but there may be side effects such as increased aggression, uncontrollable mutations, and degradation of human senses."

"I'll conduct a full analysis of the spider."

Cortana's voice echoed, and a small drone hovered over the table while picking up the plant pot and taking it to the analyzer.

"Then deal with it, and I'll go to my laboratory."

I authorized her to finish analyzing the spider herself.

As soon as I entered the laboratory, I used magic to strengthen the room's walls, floors, and roof.

In the middle, I used alchemy to make a magical circle that contained my knowledge of several worlds.

In the magic of the DxD world, magic circles are often used by various races, even demons for the same purpose of transportation.

The Scandinavian runes of the god Odin are also perfect.

The Book of Thoth also contained knowledge about barriers and the will helping to restrain something.

My gaze fell on the items I needed in the Dimension Group Chat Store.

Eighth Metal (S) - 70 CP/gram

Ninth Metal (SS) - 100 CP/gram

Tenth Metal (SSS) - 1000 CP/gram

With my CP, I could now take sixty grams of Eighth Metal, forty-two grams of Ninth Metal, and four grams of Tenth Metal.

I bought fifty grams of Eighth Metal that immediately showed up in my inventory, and spent most of my points instantly.

"Let's get to work."

I said, expecting the metal to appear right in front of me in the center of the seal.

I immediately felt changes in the space as if it had become heavier and lighter simultaneously.

The metal itself did not try to dissolve into the dimension of the Ninth Metal contained in the world in a very low concentration.

This is a more stable version of it, but because of this, it's also weaker... but that's compared to the Ninth and Tenth.

It's inherently more powerful, and it was this metal that Hephaestus himself used to create weapons for his pantheon.

As soon as I held it in my hands, I could feel how the energy in my body had become stronger, more flexible, and easier to control, and spells required much less magical energy.

The Cinnabar Spindle contains precisely this metal, but in very low proportions.

I think it's around two hundred to one which means that there is only one gram of Eighth Metal for every two hundred grams of this sword.

That was already enough to easily deal with demons.

First, I'll conduct some experiments with it, and then I will probably integrate this metal with my sword.

Then, it will become significantly stronger, and my abilities will improve.

[Chat Points: 703]

I still have CP to purchase the Ninth metal. But first, I glanced at what was happening in the Group Chat.

Hermione Granger: Professor Snape killed Dumbledore!

Hermione Granger: How is that possible⁈ Why does the movie show such a dark future?

Rias Gremory: Well, in the end, you won... and you... well...

Shinoa Hiragi: Married the ginger... I didn't expect that from you, Hermione-chan.

Hermione Granger: Is that all you care about? Voldemort will return in full force! The war will begin! And many students will die!

Shinoa Hiragi: And you found time to make out with the ginger...
