37 Ignorance Is Bliss

Almost a month had passed since the invasion. The reconstruction effort had been underway for a while now. The death count was high for civilians in Metropolis or nearby. A somber vibe was all that remained. Still, things would've been much worse if it wasn't for Darkstar, the new figure who swept away the aliens.

Today was one of those days where you would drown yourself in work to forget the horrors that loomed over the weak civilians. Alice wanted to take this chance to leave Gotham for some time. This resulted in the two Lockharts making another business trip. Regardless, untold horrors were taking place on an island far away.

"Momma! Get up! Waaah-"

The little girl's cry was cut off as a furry white arm dug through her stomach. A hulking white figure could be found standing behind the dying child, along with her dead mother. It was a massive animal resembling…a white ape. A savage grin adorned its face. The beast stood on two powerful legs as thick as tree trunks.

"Taking the life of a human…I can never get enough. When the light leaves their eyes…This is a necessary evil." It spoke with intelligence as if it'd been educated on high level curriculums.

Pulling its…or HIS arm out of the dead child, the figure scanned his surroundings. Everything was burning to the ground. Orange flames danced across the island. Smoke rose from cinders, casting a shadow over the land. Horrifying screams could be heard in all directions as smaller white apes tore out their innards.

It was brutal. It was a conquest. A massacre. The large figure walked until he came across a military encampment. A large carrier plane was attempting to take off the runway. The army of apes were already tearing into the aircraft. Countless civilians were inside, praying to whatever god they believed in. It wasn't enough.

"This would be a good spot. With my superior intellect, I will render humanity extinct." He muttered.

As he spoke, the aircraft was dismantled. The humans within were torn out and feasted upon like cattle. Their blood curdling screams was music to the large figure's ear. His arms were spread as if an orchestra was playing. While lost inside his own delusions, he was gradually surrounded by the human soldiers.

GRATATATATA CLICK CLICK

Bullets were fired in a constant stream. Unfortunately, it had no effect. The massive white ape was unscathed. These soldiers could only pull their triggers even though they'd long since ran out of ammo. Clicks resounded from their guns. Empty.

The bulletproof ape chuckled before focusing his gaze on the group. Suddenly, the soldiers fell to the ground like puppets whose strings were cut. Only one human was left standing. He looked at his dead comrades with fear. What the hell?

"You monster! What the fuck are you?!" The man roared. A smile graced the ape's face.

"Not what, but who. I am the end of humanity. I am…the Ultra Humanite." He declared before glancing at the soldier.

Just like the others, the human fell to the ground without life. It was only then that the massive white ape made its way into the military zone. Destruction was rampant all across the island. It would continue for a long time.

Meanwhile, the Humanite was observing the weapons inside the base. The technology was also fiddled with. A frown had covered the ape's face.

"Their tech is so primitive. I will make it better and use it against them. Damn humans." He growled.

Without wasting any more time, the Humanite immersed himself in his work. He was a scientist and inventor put into one. Due to his genius mind at work, he failed to notice the presence behind him.

"Oh? What an unexpected surprise. I didn't think I'd find my brethren on this island. Tell me, how do you see these humans?" The voice spoke up.

Ultra Humanite immediately jumped at the noise, turning around with a quickness. An equally massive black gorilla stood before him. It wore golden armor with a dark red cape. Intelligence could be seen in its eyes. Both of them smiled with recognition. The white ape opened his mouth to speak.

"The human race is pathetic. They are a stain on the planet. Beings of greed who are never satiated. Because of them, I was paralyzed from the waist down. I could only spend my days in a wheelchair. Now I've found the solution for my weakness…they will pay." He declared. The armored gorilla nodded his head in agreement.

"It seems we have the same goal, brother. You've gained the assistance of I, Gorilla Grodd. Together we will raze them to the ground. Until there's nothing left."

The white ape and black gorilla grasped each other's forearm. It was a sign of comradery. A symbol of brotherhood.

"This just in, Central City Picture News. The island of Maui has been taken over by what seem to be…apes? Excuse me while I find out more…" The anchor frowned while listening to the info coming into his earpiece. "Yes, an army of white apes. It is unknown if there are any survivors. We are praying for their safety."

"Tssss! Ouch!" A cute voice resounded.

Sora looked away from the TV and focused on Alice. She was sitting across the table, fanning her hands toward her mouth. She'd burnt her tongue on her coffee. He could already see her purple eyes watering up.

"...Did you forget to blow?" He asked sleepily. The beautiful doll glanced at him then pouted.

"I just wasn't expecting it to be so hot!" She complained.

The sleepy man looked around the coffee shop they'd found themselves in. They were currently in Central City for business. His mind couldn't help but wander due to the constant reports of possible villains. The wheel of fate had started turning, and countless villains were appearing like roaches. The news didn't make it any better.

"It's been confirmed that Maui has now been named Gorilla Island by the government. A statement has been released, establishing the island as a red zone. We have yet to know if this red zone will expand to cover all of Hawaii. Anyone near these zones should evacuate immediately." The news anchor concluded.

Sora's finger tapped on the table at a slow and constant rhythm. He couldn't help but sip on some hot chocolate as he listened. Alice had her hand on her chin, gazing at the lazy man without blinking.

'Hmmm…Just a bunch of monkeys. Should I pay a visit?' He thought. A yawn escaped his lips.

"Sora?" The mature beauty spoke.

"...Hmmm?"

"What are you thinking about?" She asked.

"Ah…I was thinking about the other companies we have to visit today. But I was also thinking about…the stars." He answered. Alice tilted her head in a cute manner.

"The stars? Do you like the stars?"

"I do. They keep me calm. They help me stay grounded…As long as the stars exist, then I will always be here with you." He spoke with a slight smile. Alice smiled happily, ignorant of what that really implied.

"Then…I like the stars too!" She exclaimed.

Sora leaned his head to the side, using his hand as a resting point. He couldn't help but watch her happy expression with a smile. He truly loved how dedicated she was to him. Her empty eyes portrayed a story of untold suffering. His curiosity had grown over time, and her recent meltdown had gotten his attention. This type of woman…it pressed all the right buttons for him.

'Delicious.' He thought.

It was unknown if he was talking about his hot chocolate, or Alice.
