Chapter 85: The Good Man's War (Part 2)_1

Although the Lizard wanted to make a run for it, Peter couldn't let the monster escape. If it made it to the surface, with its massive size, it would wreak havoc in New York.

As soon as the Lizard turned to run, Peter struggled to his feet and swiftly crawled up the wall, following the creature.

Peter's sense of direction was quite good; after so many days navigating the sewer, he had the route clearly memorized. He surmised from the Lizard's trajectory that it was not merely running aimlessly, but was purposefully heading in a certain direction.

Where was it going? What did it want to do? What on earth was going on?

Then it occurred to Peter, amongst the biological samples he had seen at the inspection point in the reservoir, there was a lizard tail. Could this be a monster created by some deranged scientist?

The Lizard ran ahead and Peter trailed behind. Perhaps the scientist hadn't fully considered the size of the sewer; his fabricated creature was too large, having to lower its head as it ran. Despite some areas of the New York Sewer being over ten meters high, the more narrow paths forced the Lizard to hunch over.

Conditions gave Peter the perfect opportunity to delay his enemy. Taking advantage of the Lizard's awkward movements, he shot a strand of spider silk right in front of his legs. But the creature, seemingly retaining some intelligence, did not stumble over the silk and instead managed to step over it.

Unfazed by his failed plan, Peter devised another. He spun his silk around the Lizard's neck, intending to topple him using inertia, but to no avail. The Lizard figured out his plan, jerked the encircling web, and flung Spider Man away.

From this, Spider Man learned how to dodge properly. He instantly rolled upon landing and got back up. He realized he was sorely inexperienced in battling such enormous monstrosities. After all, no common thief or robber would stand four to five meters in height.

Beyond its claws, the Lizard's primary weapon was its huge tail. One sweeping motion of its tail sent Peter crashing into a wall. Caught off-guard by this sudden change in tactics, Spider Man took a brutal hit.

Luckily, his robust stamina and strong recovery abilities had him back on the Lizard's trail in no time.

Peter identified that to combat this creature, he needed to draw it up to the surface. Whilst the sewer did restrict the giant monster somewhat, it also limited Spider Man's available space to maneuver. The cramped sewer was utterly filled by this gargantuan creature, stopping him from using his spider silk to corner it effectively.

Moreover, as the creature's path became more apparent, Peter realized it seemed to be headed towards the Stark Building.

He knew this route all too well, as it was the one he took to his internship after patrolling the sewers.

Peter didn't understand what the monster was up to. All he knew was that he couldn't let it rush to the surface and into the Stark Building. Stark's current state was precarious, perhaps still befuddled by a lack of sleep. If Stark couldn't operate his mecha, the hundreds of employees in the building would be in great danger.

As Peter came to this realization, the creature also found that traveling in the sewer was hindering it. It chose instead to leap forcefully up through the nearest manhole cover.

Not concerning itself with the size of the manhole, the Lizard broke through the road surface and emerged, with Peter hot on its tail.

A monster suddenly appearing from beneath the ground caused chaos on the streets. A dozen cars in the rear hit the brakes, yet still collided, causing a tremendous explosion.

Spider Man wanted to save the people, but he also saw the immense creature stepping over cars and racing towards the Stark Building. Having no other choice, Peter pressed the communicator on his wrist and shouted, "Mr. Stark!!! Mr. Stark!!! Are you there?!!! Wake up!! A Lizard monster is heading your way!! Wake up!!"

There was no response from the communicator. Peter cursed under his breath and then called Steve. He said, "Captain! Come quickly to control the traffic! A monster has escaped! It is on the main road east of the Stark Building. People here need rescue!!"

Just as he was about to call Shiller, he noticed the Lizard in front make a huge leap, landing directly in the parking lot of the Stark Building.

Peter had no choice but to follow quickly. The spider silk attached directly to the glass facade of another Stark building, then he swung down rapidly, directly kicking the Lizard in the neck.

The huge creature staggered a bit; however, it used its tail to maintain balance.

It reached out to grab Spider Man, but the Stark Group had five or six buildings surrounding the area in a ring-like structure, which provided Peter with the perfect space to maneuver.

Seeing the Lizard reach out, Peter shot another strand of silk, swinging away from its side. Turning back, he shot another strand of silk onto its arm, intending to pull the Lizard down.

With a powerful swing of its arm, the Lizard broke free of the silk, then dashed into the interior of the Stark Building.

The interior of the Stark Building was complex, but each floor was extremely high due to the size of the building. Thus, the Lizard could move freely inside.
