1 Chapter 1

Is it foolish of a person to fall in love at a young age? Then why do people regard it as infatuation or stupidity. I was once like these people. I didn't believe in love at first sight or love at a young age. I was old fashion in the sense that love was something of time.

It would start as a compliment. Light and beautiful. It would then grow into a flirty conversation that would flow naturally and go on forever. Then it would bloom into soft--shivers down ones back--touches that would linger with a feeling of warmth. A promise, a gentle kiss on the cheek and the skip of a heart beat.

A smile graced my lips. He returned today, the man of my dreams. The man, who I would one day call my husband. The man who my silent heart beat for. Isaac Elordie, one of the most powerful vampire in the kingdom. Young in appearance yet old in age, one of the oldest actually.

I glanced at my reflection in the mirror. My white flowing dress hugged my waist and hips tightly. It exposed my shoulders and would reveal my legs as I walked.

A feathered touch grazed my back and I glanced at my helper through the mirror. She stared back at me with terrified eyes. I sent her a reassuring smile and she continued to zip my dress.

I walked a little closer to the mirror when she finished. I observed my unique features. Blood red lips, light skin, crimson eyes... I had been told on more than one occasion that I was the most beautiful person in the world but I always frowned at the thought. Vampires weren't as simple as the seem. They always had an ulterior motive.

I shook away my thoughts and smiled. Today was not a day to worry about such things. Today was the day that my love would come back to me.

I turned sharply on my heels and rushed out of my room. I nodded and smiled at vampires and helpers that bowed as I walked by. Isaac would arrive in a few minutes and I wanted to be there to greet him when he did. As I approached the doors to the throne room, the guards opened the door.

"Your highness," the head of the council immediately greeted, sensing my presence.

There were 5 members of the council, each representing a vampire family of Royal blood. Reysh was mine. I was reborn into the Royal family of Nox, the night family. I wasn't given any big responsibility as I was still very young and unmarried.

"I didn't know that you'd be joining us," he said. Did he not want me here? What was the disapproval in his voice trying to tell me.

"Isaac returns today. I wanted to greet him," I said slowly.

Reysh sighed glancing at the other council members, who stared at me with sadness in their eyes.

"What is the matter, Reysh," I said urgently feeling sinking feeling in my chest. Something was wrong.

Reysh was about to answer when the door burst opened. A tall pale figure walked with a steady pace into the room. He wore a dark long jacket with the collar forming a shield around his neck. His face had miraculously grown a light stubble. I covered my lips in excitement as well as the anticipation of teasing him later on.

I tilted my head confused as I observed the small slender figure walking behind him. My still heart died a little more as he suddenly walked right pass me.

"I have come to make a request," his deep voice echoed through the room.

Reysh glanced at me sadly, clenching is jaw.

"Continue," he said.

Isaac brought the girl before him, his hand pressed firmly against her lower back just as if used to do with me.

"I have found my mate," his voice said loud, clear and unwavering.

A pained gasp fell from my lips, making my presence known. My hands no longer covered my lips from joy but from pain. His head snapped in my direction and he turned to approach me.

"What is your request," Vivian boomed.

Isaac froze glancing between me and his mate.

"It is not wise to waste our time," she said slyly. No was above the council no matter what blood or who's blood ran through your veins.

"I...I wish to turn her," he said. His confidence from earlier was wavering.

"Granted," Vivian immediately responded. I didn't miss the glare that Reysh sent her but it was the law. A vampire had the right to turn their mate without the council's permission, most just preferred to do so with their blessing.

Reysh nodded to Isaac and I could no longer watch. I turned and I ran. I ran towards the only place that I could be by myself and alone. My rose tree.

I sat down on the edge of the concrete wall that caged in the water that surrounded my tree. It was gift from my father, my birth father. He gave it to me the day that I awakened and the day he passed. One petal had the power to sustain a life for years. One petal had the ability to cure a vampires bloodlust for a month.

It was a powerful tree, which is why it was hidden at the center of a maze. A maze that only little children could find or a person of adventure and wonder. Their we're little to no vampire children in the western kingdom. And as for an adventurous soul full of wonder... most vampires didn't concern themselves with such things. They were solely focused on alliances and their lusts.

I on the other hand wanted something with a purpose. I wanted something real. I guess that I longed for the human life that I was robbed of. That dream was gone, now. I would never have a second chance at real love.

The council had granted me one chance to choose who I marry. And now since that chance was gone, they were to choose my husband. Who will probably be a tyrant that their trying to win over and assume the right to his lands.

No, I couldn't give up. I made a promise to my father that I'd live a normal life at least once, even if it's not under normal circumstances. Even if it means acting as a representative of the council to oversee the turning of Isaac's mate.

A lone tear fell from my cheek. A drop of blood hit the surface of the water as I cut a branch from the rose tree.
