Chapter 96

Klaus smiled vaguely before answering.

"Please add Duchess Salvatore and Marquis McClare to the list of invited guests." Klaus spoke as he leaned an arm on my desk.

I tried to remember everything about this Duchess Salvatore. Duchess Elizabeth Alice Salvatore is the daughter of a Marquis from the northern Kingdom. The daughter in law of the last Monarch's right prime minister. She is the wife of one of the imperial Knight's general, Helex Salvatore. She also served on the battlefield as a knight when she was younger, thus meeting the general. Her status in the social circle is flawless and not a single bad thing was done by their family. The Salvatores are considered to be one of the upright noble families.

"I understand Duchess Salvatore, but why Marchioness McClare?" I asked with furrowed brows.

"My lady." Klaus smiled warmly yet his eyes showed slight malice. "You should always keep you enemies on their heels."

I stared at the beautiful man in front of me who had a calm air around him. His warm smile could easily hide the schemes he does inside his head.

"Tell me, Klaus, how would keeping then on their heels be beneficial for us?" I asked putting down my quill and setting the other papers aside. "Wouldn't letting them slack off be more beneficial for a surprise attack?"

"My lady, killing one hastily is mercy in itself." Klaus warm smiled never left his face, just like Sebastiene. I think this is the reason why they click so well.

"I am not planning on killing them quickly." I smiled vaguely.

"But, wouldn't torturing them better?" Klaus replied, his eyes glinting with mischief. "Let them know that you know and that they have no way out. Let them panic over the fact that you could do anything to them at any time. Let them cower in fear of being attacked at any time. Torture them slowly. "

I sat there in surprise. I know he is a genius but what he just suggested was beyond brilliant.

I sat there in deep thought.

"Okay." I smiled coldly. "Do what he says Seb. Send an invitation to the duchess and marchioness."

"As you wish, my lady." Sebastiene bowed and took out two invitations from his space storge. He wrote down the names and used the seal on my desk to stamp them before creating a small portal to the Salvatore and McClare residences and dropped the letter.

Klaus watched Sebastiene do his job in awe.

"Sebastiene, your abilities are really quite useful." He commented as he stared at the little portal Sebastiene use to immediate send letters.

"Is it?" Sebastiene smiled with a raised brow.

"Yes!" Klause nodded. "I would love to have a storage space I could open anywhere and a mini portal I could use to pass things everywhere! Imagine being cooped up on that villa for years without going out. I could have really used that ability."

"It is quite useful." I smirked and continued reading the files in front of me. "In many ways."

Sebastiene also showed a hint of humor on his smile. I guess we both remembered how we messed up with the king before.

"Though I bet that it would create a ruckus if someone found him opening a portal and just dropping letters." I sneered.

Speaking of the king, he seems to be lying low at the moment. We haven't heard anything from him after the invitation incident.

"My lady, would you like me to help you with those files?" Klaus offered looking hesitant. "I am quite adept at it."

He must be thinking that I don't trust him with reports yet so I took the file about Karciel from the pile and handed it to Klaus.

"That would be your first mission. If you fail that, I'll drag you back to your family's villa where I picked you up." I said monotonously.

Klaus and Sebastiene chuckle at me.

Klaus started reading though the file and Sebastiene prepared tea for him. We read the reports in comfortable silence.

A little while later, Klaus asked if he could see a map of the entire Westreon City. I asked Sebastiene to get it for him together with the map of the entire estate.

When Sebastiene got back, Klaus moved to the coffee table in the middle of the guest seats. He proceeded to open the map on top of it and pinned each corner using heavy chess pieces that Sebastiene brought with him. Klause read everything written on the map, names of street, little alleys, and even blocks. He then placed the white king piece on a specific spot on the map and started placing the other pieces one by one.
