1 Prologue: A New Start

[Ah...Death...is it really something that can free me from the place I called home and that once chained me to it?] A small smile adorned the brunette's face, her face pale, her eyes with no more will to live. It was actually quite the opposite, she'd been waiting for the day of her death. Never fearing it but welcoming it with open arms.

Even as I take my last breaths, the people around me are only concerned because they saw someone die before their eyes and they fear that thing called death. I'll die as the girl who didn't stop at the red traffic light when coming back from work. I watch as everyone stands there in their navy blue suits and skirts watching, frozen in place not calling an ambulance, but watching me die.

Mom I think I'll be joining you soon, so wait for me. I, Kim Soon-Bok, am going to die on this sad rainy day. I'll finally be able to see your face again, you and dad, I want to see you again.

It's said that when someone dies they will see their life flash before them and I hope that's not true, because my life is only filled with misfortune and pain. My brown hair that was in a neat bun when I walked out the office, was now disheveled and worn out, All my life I'd been told I was nothing, and no one really cared about how I felt, now watch me die on this majestic day, Only at the age of 28, I died with such a terrible life behind me.

[This makes me a bit happy...] I smiled, the people that hovered over me were bewildered at her sudden expression.

[I wanted to have a family, be loved, and to feel the warmth of a home you can return to. I wish I could have another chance at life, even for just a little while, I want to rest and have another chance at life... Please...] I cried in my mind, my heart felt like it was being squeezed, my ears rang as I heard the ambulance approaching.

They walked slowly and steadily towards me, my eyes blinked several times before finally closing, and never waking up again.

Darkness overcame the light at that moment and I saw my life flash before me in an instant, but for some reason, I saw no light. So I'm guessing it wasn't true that when you die you see the light after death...

[Ha...I got fooled again, how funny...]

"Lady Louise? You've been spacing out for a while now, nap time is over."

"Hm...?" I heard myself say, I heard my small voice resonate through my bod, My hands were as tiny as the paws of a newborn puppy. I look up at the voice from above me, it was a woman with white platinum hair, her eyes were quite fascinating too. They were some type of yellow-orange color, [like honey...] I thought. she had such a beautiful and unrealistic face, I felt like I was dreaming.

"Lady Louise? Your father has been waiting for you to finish your studies so that you can have dinner with him." She said she looked young and around her 20s, she seems too young to be my mother.

She's my tutor and nanny.

...

[Wait- What?!]

After that near-death experience I must be starting to hallucinate I'm from a noble family like in those novels I read, but then how did I end up here? Right there's no time for questions, I'll just skip to the part where I know all these people and remember everything as if I lived here. [Yeah right.]

She's my Nanny her name is Adelaide de Beauchamp, she's a countess one of the Grand Duke's subordinates.

[Wait- How the heck do I know all this?! Then I'm not dreaming?.]

"Lady Louise?"

"Yeah, Yeah Imma going Adelaide, chillax," I waved my hand nonchalantly, she was shocked at my sudden dismissal, as if I were an alien from another planet. But in her case I would agree with her if that were the case and if Louise still stood here alive.

I jump off the chair of my wooden desk, and I land on my face, Guess it's karma. Does this mean it isn't a dream..?

"Louise! Are you alright...?" Adelaide asked kneeling before me, now that I look at her face closely she seems to be worried to the point she's about to cry rivers.

[Are you kidding me? Who's the actual child here???]

Her frilly and puffy dress spread throughout the floor as she cried next to me, I stood there unmoving with a worried yet meh face.

Hm...and now that I look through the memories of this body this tiny 5-year old girl has never been nice to anyone once in the 5 years she's lived. This is quite disappointing, but I get why she would act the way she did. [Daddy issues ain't I right?]

"Teehee..."

"Louise let me help you up." Adelaide got up and took my hand helping me to my feet, I shook the dust off my dress and smiled at Adelaide "Thanks Adelaide, and please forget about what I said earlier, it's just me being stupid." I said, smiling eyes closed, when I opened them I found a crying adelaide kneeling on the rug, "A-Adelaide, Why are you crying?" I queried, [I don't know how to comfort myself much less someone who isn't me! What do I do?!]

"y-y-you've never been so nice to me, I must be dreaming" Adelaide said through sobs and hiccups, I sighed, [do I have to proceed with the story by raising her now?] I thought in disgust, [i hope not...]

"Uh...Well, i can be nice too you know?" I walked to the mirror in my study room before heading to the door. Black lustrous locks, a poreless face and chubby cheeks, [i feel cute...teehee] she had fair skin and short hair that only reached to her shoulders. She's beautiful, is this who I get to be for the rest of my life? Because I can live like this for an eternity if I wanted to. Hehehehe~

"The Duke is waiting, Louise, You wouldn't want to keep him for too long."

[uh what..? keep him? NEVER.]

[Aside from that, From what I've recollected in louise's memories, she's never done a good deed, I can still see a memory from yesterday with her saying something like this...]

"You Idiot! You must be thinking I'll just reprimand you for that!" She shouted as she stomped on the servant's foot. Which to be honest should've broken a toe or two. yikes...

As we near the door to the dining hall, and I watch as the guards at the door open the doors for us, the maids at the dining hall laughed and snickered when I entered the hall. I see a man with black hair and red ruby eyes, almost piercing, we seemed nothing alike. Unlike me, who had blue eyes like my mother. I gulp, as I walk into the dining hall the table seemed small for a rich chancellor to be honest, it should've been far bigger since he IS the Emperor's right hand-man.

"Good Afternoon Father, I hope you didn't wait long." I announced as I entered the room, He just glanced at me and went back to looking at his food again.

"Take a seat." He said, I could feel his red piercing eyes through this little head of mine, I'm starting to sweat right now so I should just sit down. I can hear the maids snickering and laughing behind my back, Adelaide watches from the corner worriedly as if the entire world were about to kill me by now. I walk to a seat across from the chancellor and then I climb up without any of the maids' help.

Most of them seemed shocked and surprised I didn't ask them for help. [I'm a big girl now. Ya proud Adelaide? teehee] I glanced at Adelaide that seemed to be clapping proudly like a mother would and she gave me a thumbs up.

"Oh, Chicken soup..."

"Do you not like it?"

"Of course I do, It's just a bit hot."

He then waved his hand and sent one of the maids to go and cool it off for me for a bit then I grab the glass of water and drink calmly and slowly something Louise has never done. I need to be polite to avoid my father's attention. Even If I were the daughter of a chancellor, I will soon succeed in his place for being so smart at such a young age. My older brother gave up on his inheritance rights, since all he wants to do is become a knight.

In my past life, my father abused me, and hit me whenever he had the chance to and made up a lousy excuse by saying: I'm working all day, and you? You're here watching television! who pays the bills?! and the taxes?! Me! then he would punch me or throw me to the walls and floor in our apartment. He stopped once I started high school, but I was already looking like a stick by then, I was pale and I was soon told to eat the food they gave at school and that I had to pay. It was painful, I lost my mother when I was only 8, and I had to live with the wrath of my father every day since then. I felt completely miserable.

I won't live like that again! not again! I will take advantage of the opportunity I have in my hands right now and become a genius like my father so that I may succeed him and support the empire! I am Louise de Baudelaire daughter of a genius!
