31 Chapter 12: Your Name [3]

[Rei PoV]

Sitting on top of the desk, Rei let out a short yawn.

Almost everybody from the school was already gone as soon as the spacequake alarm rang out.

The sirens then started to get louder and louder and it was then, the space trembled and a certain part of the school was 'devoured' by it.

It was then, a sudden realization hit him which somehow made him be in dismay albeit only for a short moment.

It was nothing serious... really. Not at all.

"Ah... my seat..."

And sadly, his seat placed nearby the window was caught up with the spacequake.

It was a shame to be honest because he quite liked the feeling sitting on the so-called protagonist seat in novels and mainly romcoms or something.

But now it was gone.

It was a shame. Really.

And it was then, numerous gunshots were heard from the outside. Hearing this, Rei thought to himself that within any moment right now, she would definitely appear here.

Knowing that, he also began to make some preparations.

He then get up from his seat and then an ethereal glow began to converge within the palm of his hand. That ethereal glow then converged forming a small, grayish-black orb.

He then looked at the outside ignoring the sounds of explosions and destruction.

The state of the classroom, dyed red by the setting sun, was projected into his retinas.

"....."

A moment passed and he smiled faintly as if he was reminiscing something.

It was then, the orb in his palm slowly disappeared. Noticing this, his smile grew wider as the next phase of his preparations was already in progress.

This preparations was necessary.

Yes. In order for no interference to disturb what would happen right after.

——

[Nameless Girl PoV]

As soon as the spacequake manifested, a crater-like form had it's center right at the very school yard of the school.

Right on the spot was a girl. Her very appearance could be pointed down as 'beautiful' overall.

She wore an Astral Dress with a black, cream, and pink color scheme and a set of purple-and-cream plated armor which adorned her shoulders and waist. The Dress is open at the back and made up into a black corset and a two-layered, knee-length skirt which has a pink-to-white gradient. Her hair is tied back using a butterfly-shaped hair accessory. She also wears a pair of gauntlets which have petal-like cuffs, both sharing the same color scheme as her attire, as well as a pair of armored boots.

Opening her eyes, she began to move around the place, scanning if there were threats present or not.

And obviously, there were. Numerous gunshots rained down upon here at the next few seconds.

It was them again.

The people always trying to kill her. But the fact that their appearance changed from a group of humans into a collective scrap of moving metals bothered the nameless girl albeit slightly.

Even so, their goal didn't change. And so, the nameless girl retaliated as she heaved a tired sigh.

"<Sandalphon>"

Calling out her [Angel], a massive golden throne then manifested out of thin air. Directly pulling out a broadsword placed on it, she then made her move.

*SWOOSH*

With a single wave of her sword, countless explosions resounded in a distance. Several enemies of her were cut down and exploded in the process.

And just like usual, she knew that these enemies of her would increase at any moments notice right now. Knowing that, she then moved out of the open area and moved to who knows what place it was.

As she flew into the air, one building definitely caught her attention for some reason, and she decided to go there. It's appearance could be described as partially destroyed, and she knew it was probably because of her appearance in this world once more.

Pondering about this for a while, she then remembered when she last appeared in this world. The [Spirit] that was just like her—yet also not at the same time.

She made a promise with him... is what she was thinking. At the same time, she also wants to ask him questions about many things.

Closing her eyes, she hovered around the air seemingly having no care if something were to happen around her since she was sure that she could just definitely fend it off easily.

At the very next moment when she landed, she felt that this place was strange. But she didn't mind it too much since her intuition tells her that it wasn't something that would harm her.

Her gaze then landed next to an object—a desk.

Sitting on top of it, she then looked at the structure—a blackboard a few meters ahead of it.

Somehow, seeing this made her sigh in melancholy as she looked at it in daze. In the end, she realized she was alone once more—or so she thought not even expecting that someone was already with her in this classroom all this time.

"Well well. To think that you would appear here exactly right after I finished my preparations. Coincidences are quite scary, aren't they," an amused voice called out.

The nameless girl immediately snapped out of her daze and immediately moved her gaze to where the voice came from.

And to her surprise, she widened her eyes.

"Nn...?"

She didn't notice this individual's presence at all. Moreover, the person's figure was slightly hazy at the moment due to her eyes so she still couldn't distinguish the person's appearance except for it's flowing silver hair.

Upon hearing the individual's next words, she narrowed her eyes.

"I'm just here to continue where we left off at that time. So, it's good to say that it was nice to meet you again, lady"

——

[Rei PoV]

"I'm just here to continue where we left off at that time. So, it's good to say that it was nice to meet you again, lady," Rei said in a relaxed manner.

Leaning on the wall with his arms crossed, his gaze landed to a simple certain desk.

Right on a certain desk, a raven-haired girl with the strange dress wrapped around her body was sitting with one knee raised.

Her eyes emanating an illusory shine was in a melancholic half-open state, staring at the blackboard in a daze.

Half of her body illuminated by the sunset, the girl was, to the extent of stealing the thinking abilities of anyone looking at her for a moment, mysterious.

However, that scene which had been close to perfection, immediately crumbled as soon as he decided to call her out.

The girl was visibly surprised, seeing that, Rei let out a small chuckle—which for some reason brought some setbacks at the next moment.

An instant later, a stream of light burst through where Rei had been standing, easily blasting through the outer walls of the school building and extending outside.

Even after that, streams of black light were continuously shot out.

Rei wondered if surprising her was a bad move—and apparently, yes. Well, it's instinct to be wary

The girl was staring intently at him. As if wondering whether an attack will come, that gaze was filled with doubt and caution.

But upon taking a clear view of his appearance, the girl let out a gasp of shock.

"Sigh. If I knew this would've happened, I wouldn't have done that..." Rei uttered with a sigh.

"You are...?"

"Yes, it was me. Also, you're quite... overbearing over simple matters. Isn't it overkill to release several barrages right at the very next moment you saw me?"

"...."

The girl's clutch on her blade somewhat tightened, and in the next few seconds she blinked and uttered a small sigh.

"What are you doing.....Nn?" She was about to ask, but seeing his figure, the girl slightly narrowed her gaze.

Then, lightly bending her waist, she stared at Rei's face for a while, and "Nu?", she raised her brows.

"Hey, haven't we met once before...?"

"We did. Just a few days before to be exact. And I'm happy that you remembered that"

"Ohh..."

As if remembering, the girl lightly hit her hands together, then returned to her previous posture.

"I remember now. You're the one that said some kind of weird thing"

Seeing that a slight amount of harshness was gone from the girl's eyes, for a moment

The girl tilted her face as if to look into Rei's eyes, as she let loose her gaze.

"...If I recall, you said that you had no intention to kill me? Hmph! I've seen through that. Tell me, what are you after. Are you planning to attack me from behind after loosening my guard?"

"Then I would've done that in the first place, you know? Besides, why should I do that to my own brethren anyways"

"You have a point...."

"Hm? Introductions are in order, so let me introduce myself," Shaving of the dust on his clothes, Rei then introduced himself in an elegant manner, "My name is Rei. Rei Ainsworth, it's nice to meet you once again, lady"

"N, Nn..."

Seemingly surprised, the girl took a step back and nodded.

"So, care to introduce yourself as well?"

"...."

"What's the matter? Is there some kind of problem?"

"I...."

"...?"

"No, that's not it. It's not something that I am capable of doing right now...Then I will ask again. If you have no intention of killing me, then for what purpose are you here right now?"

"Nothing much, just waiting for something to happen. Meeting you here is a coincidence, I say. What do you think?" Rei asked a gleeful smile.

"Suspicious," The girl bluntly said.

"Really?" Asked Rei acting as innocently as possible.

And nevertheless, the girl just responded with a plain nod, "Nn"

"...Well,that would've been the normal reaction, okay. I can't blame you for that," Rei shrugged as he took a step forward.

"Now answer my question properly, what are you doing here?"

Seeing him move, the girl then heightened up her guard.

Even though they already met once back then, that wasn't enough to clear the girl's suspicions towards Rei.

And knowing this, Rei then answered, "So you don't believe me saying that this situation is a result of a mere coincidence?"

"Of course"

Nodding, Rei then glanced at her and then said, "Hm... Then, what if the reason I am here was to meet you?"

"..."

"..."

And silence ensued the room for a few seconds before the girl finally broke it and answered back.

"...Ha? To meet me you say, I don't have the time to joke with you here," She scoffed.

"But what can I say? That is the truth though"

"Is that so...?"

Making an extremely melancholic expression, the girl said.

Ahh, that was it, it was this expression.

This kind of expression, which Rei despised even back then in his previous life.

As if considering themselves to be not loved at all, an expression showing the loss of faith in the world.

Unconsciously, Rei's throat shook.

Immediately regaining his composure, right after, he then spoke.

"I came here in order to... talk to you. To meet you"

Rei said—and seeming not to understand his meaning once more, the girl raised her eyebrows.

"...What do you mean?"

"Just that. I want to talk to you. I want to let you realize several things and drill it to your head. And even if you don't understand it, I will make you do so. So, I just want you to know one thing"

"...!?"

This was definitely out of his character.

However, Rei didn't stop.

After all, until now, this girl had nobody who would reach their hand out to her.

After all, with just a few perfectly chosen words, she could have been in a completely different situation, but the person who would tell her those words, not one had existed there, at least back then.

But that would change right after the very next seconds.

For Rei, he had nobody. In his former life, they disappeared quite early and it his life was soon filled with misfortune, and to this life, he apparently has nobody as well, since it was still a new start for him after all.

And the girl had nobody as well.

They were 'almost' similar. Having nobody else. Rei knew what the girl was feeling, but he had never shown such melancholic expression ever since back then nor he would at the present.

It was a sign of weakness, especially, to him. Seeing that on the girl's face somehow made him mad and sad for some reason.

No man is an island, they say.

But if you have no choice, then what would you do?

Create it. Create the option itself, obviously. If you don't like the available options. Then create one that you see fit.

But if you don't have the capability of doing it, then what? Literally, you could do nothing. You are powerless to do that after all.

So her being melancholic of being alone... feeling no one loves her and the feeling of everybody else denying her existence. He can't accept it.

After all, in times of need. The only person available to you more than anybody else would be only yourself alone.

That's why she should know that she herself shouldn't deny her existence, love herself, cherish her well being. She needs to realize that.

But that would take a lot of time for her to realize. Rei concluded it like that in his mind. So Rei decided to take a different approach with that matter.

At the very least, Rei decided to relay this girl a simple message right from his very core. Something, that the girl needs right at this very moment.

Rei then soon disappeared from his spot and reappeared right before the girl, his eyes then locked with hers which looked surprised at the moment.

"So don't make such an expression," Rei said as he reached out to the girl's soft cheeks seemingly brushing of the tear that came out from the girl's eyes.

"What are you—!?"

Startled, the girl wanted to retort and move back away, but before she could finish, Rei's following words left a very deep impression to the girls very being.

Rei then said with a smile that had blended well with the illuminating sunset making it more radiant and beautiful than it should.

"I, at the very least, would be the only person who would not deny your existence."
