Legion of Light (Part 1)

"In the end, there was nothing but light"

-----------------------------------

The Legion of Light.

The very first memory I have of them is from the age of 8. Father was back home for a meeting of sorts. And since it's so rare for him to be home at this time of the year, I insisted on being there with him for the meeting, though admittedly I had also started getting interested in what father actually did. But he refused to let me attend, so I went ahead and chose a seat for myself at the table beforehand, merrily waiting for everyone, swinging my legs, and having ice cream.

The first to arrive were Michelle, Charles, and the new girl Macy. Michelle was shocked to see me there, immediately told me to leave and that it wasn't appropriate for me to be there. When I refused she tried to catch me and take me away by force. But I was not weak, I had just learned magic. I was strong too. I infused light magic into my spoon and swung it at Michelle. "I will not go! I want to be with daddy!"

Michelle stopped and looked at me with a weird expression. Was that worry? Charles who had been silent this entire time finally called her back. "Michelle, I think it will be alright now."

They shared a look at each other for more than a few moments. But then she turned at me with a smile. "Alright Liam. But you will have to sit back there on the couch during the meeting. Do not disturb, okay?"

I nodded and ran over to the couch with my ice cream.

Next in was Dias. Usually, he is the most cheerful and fun to be around, but once he looked at me, all his face showed was surprise with a tinge of sadness. Even though I waved happily and called out to him. He looked at Charles as well, who nodded back at him grimly. And with that he just took a seat as well, saying nothing.

Maybe he had a bad stomach? I'll tell Macy to heal him later.

Where is father though? I have been waiting so long for him. Hehe but it's fine, I can wait as long as needed. I have my ice cream. A big tub of ice cream I got from the kitchen. And I have this spoon. I can wait.

Finally, Father arrived. The doors opened as Lance entered first, making way for my Father. He was in conversation, looking around the room, though as his sights fell on me, he paused for a moment and looked back at his team for a while. Everyone met his eyes, but no one said anything, with Charles just responding with a shrug.

He continued on his way to the table leading a man behind him, a man unlike any I had seen before... Or so I thought...

That man... Something... I...

I...

What is this...

I...

That knight... wearing afull armor with a silver and golden cape... I have never seen him before... but somehow I feel weird looking at him... he glanced at me once and waves of that weird emotion pass through me... fear... no... I don't know...

I don't know how to think... This feeling, it's like something is squeezing my heart, it's painful... It's so sad... It hurts my head to think about it... I want to fall... I want to drown... I...

I don't know what to think...

I set down my ice cream and slowly walk over to Michelle.

"Michelle... please... It hurts... My head hurts... It hurts..." I say but instead of pointing to my head, I am unknowingly clawing at my heart...

Michelle stood up from her seat and knelt in front of me. Tears were welling up in her eyes... Why? Why was she sad? Why am I sad? Why does it hurt so much?

She wiped her eyes and forced a smile on her face as she picked me up and pulled me into an embrace.

"Let's go horse-riding, shall we?" She said as she wiped my tears as well. It was then I realized I had also been crying.

Tears again started welling up in my eyes, but this time I didn't let them fall. I buried my face into her shoulder and held her tight. "Mm, let's go."

With that, we left the room, without looking back at anyone...

After this incident, my dad took some time off hero work to look after me. It was weird having him around all day at home for so long. I couldn't be picky with my food anymore and had to bathe always at the correct time.

But it was fun as well. Whenever I had free time I would sit in father's office all the time. And even on his chair when he wasn't around, but don't tell him, okay? He would read me stories, and teach me how to channel magic through my body, even though he is terrible at teaching anything. We would go horse-riding, practice swordsmanship and one day we even went to the Palace, where I and the princess would always challenge the royal guards to a duel and unleash our full power on them. But we would somehow always lose quickly. Not giving up though.

So one night at dinner, I asked him the question. It scared me to even think about it, but I knew dad was here away from his important work for so long only because of what happened. "Father? Who was that knight?"

Father paused and put down his silverware before facing me. "That knight was Commander Marved of the Legion of Light."

There it was again. As soon as I heard the name, Legion of Light, that weird feeling from that day came back to me. But I refused to succumb. I wanted to know. I didn't want to be weak again.

I continued eating slowly, looking at the plate as I asked my next question. "What is the Legion of Light?"
