My Mate

Reaching my hand out I offer to shake his hand which he accepts shaking our interlocked hands. He seems shocked when the prickles of electricity rolls up his arm, obviously he hadn't picked up on my scent earlier. He drops my hand rather quickly, why? I'm not sure.

"Good Morning Alpha Nathan, my name is Dawn and this is my Beta Finn." I explain slowly, taking in silent deep breaths trying to rope my wolf back into the back of my mind, her behaviour is not making this any easier on me as I try to act professional. Finn nods his head respectfully sensing my unease in our bond he whispers in my mind asking what is wrong. I snap back at him telling him that I am fine and to mind his own business and I immediately apologise. Of course, him being the perfect Beta he forgave me instantly and I silently thank him through the bond. The Nathan seems to be taken back for a moment before he finally speaks.

"Thank you for coming Alpha Dawn and welcome to my pack, please follow me to your accommodation." He greats us with his voice sounding like sweat honey and it is soft on my ears. Obeying his instructions my pack members who came with me and I follow Alpha Nathan or my mate into his home. It is a lot bigger than my pack house obviously, as this pack has had years and probably gathered a lot of many to remodel and renovate every and any room they wanted. As we were given a brief tour of the pack house, I noticed many of his pack members were tense and tried to avoid our gazes. I knew it'll take people time to adjust to rogues being considered as legitimate pack members but they better get used to it; they are looking at us like they expect us to suddenly attack them like savages, it is very unsettling.

He led us down a long hallway which seems to be very disconnected from the rest of the house and he turns the corner into a new hallway with doors littering each side. He turns around slowly and refuses to meet my eyes.

"These are where you will be sleeping for the duration of your visit, due to lack of rooms as we only have 10 available some of your pack members may have to double up." He explains to my pack and they quickly get into groups with who they want to share rooms with. In the end it works out nicely with Joey and Finn sharing a room and I get one all to myself as there is an odd number of females and with my mate standing just behind my pack listening in I'm not sure how he'd react if I took a male wolf as my roommate, even if it is Joey.

"Alpha Dawn we will give your pack members a chance to settle in, while you and your Beta come and meet my Beta and my head warriors." He directs at me, while still not even looking at me which is starting to frustrate the hell out of my wolf. I nod my head in reply and Finn and I follow the brooding Alpha back down the hallway. He leads us back into the main living area before going up a spiral staircase which lead to a corridor of offices where he opened one of the doors for us to enter. A grand oak desk sits in the middle of the room with the Beta and who I assume as the head warriors crowded around the desk in chairs. When Finn walks in the Beta from this pack jumps up and shakes his hand.

"You must be the Beta I spoke to over the phone?" He asks and Finn nods returning his stern handshake, then the Beta turns to me.

"Hello Alpha Dawn, I appreciate everything you have done for our kind and everything you will continue to do." He tells me bowing his head in respect and I return the gesture with a smile. Obviously, the Beta has so much more people skills than my mate over there.

"Thank you very much, I'm glad to help." I say with a soft smile and he nods his head with a smile of his own. My mate walks into the room and walks behind his desk unrolling a large scroll onto his desk and I recognised what it was.

"Is this a map marking all the locations from where your pack borders have been breached?" I ask bracing my hands on the desk leaning over to look at the map. Nathan hummed in agreement before pointing to a bright red pin in the south-west corner of the territory.

"This is the place where they come through the most, I believe their pack lands are off in that direction so it's easier for them to trespass through his border than go all the way around." He explains and I nod my head scanning over the rest of the map, there were two more pins in the North and East, blue and yellow.

"What are these pins for?" I ask indicating the bright blue and yellow pins he forgot to mention earlier. He took in a deep breath and run his hands through his rough, silky shiny hair that I just want to run my fingers...not the time.

"The yellows pins are where my pack has had the most casualties and the blue pins are where they are spotted before the attacks take place." He explains and I nod looking more closely at the map before an idea comes to mind.

"Has there been any illnesses within the pack the last couple weeks?" I ask and everyone turns to look at me like I'm out of my mind.

"Trust an Alpha Female to play mother pup in a middle of a war." One of the head warriors exclaims and within seconds Finn has him pinned up against the wall growling at him softly under his breath waiting for my command. I wait until everyone is quiet and staring at me intensely, waiting for me to call off my Beta.

"If you weren't too busy discriminating against women who have more power in their pinkie than you have in your whole entire body, you'd realise that the pack has been sending men to kill your pack members in the East to lure you away from the North, which coincidently is right next to your pack's water supply!" I spit out pointing at the different pins and trying to hold back my growl as my claws start to dig into the wood on the desk. Retracting my claws, I turn to nod at Finn and he growls pulling the warrior off the wall and forcing him into one of the chairs.

"Now like I was asking have there been any illnesses in the pack in the last couple weeks?" I ask getting frustrated with his rude, hostile, and sexist pack.

"There was been some sickness, and honestly I didn't think the cases were connected." Nathan admits bitterly and my wolf is smirking inside, she's glad to prove to our male that we're not just a pretty face with some power, I have a brain in my head that's brighter than his. Not that I consider myself as his superior, we are equal just as it's always been and just as it always will be.

"I'll have my Beta send a team of scientists down to the river tonight to analysis the water and see what we're dealing with and maybe find a way to treat it if anyone is sick that we don't know about." Nathan tells me and I nod my head in agreement, it is wise to get a head start on his poison to ensure our pack is safe. Wait no, his pack, to ensure his pack is safe.

"I'd also recommend switching to rain water only and I know there's going to be a shortage of water supply, but if we stop refilling the public pools, the children's paddle pools by the sand pit and limit the showering times you should be able to manage without the river." I was now really happy that Finn gave me the giant stack of information about this pack, although it was a pain in the ass to read it was definitely being useful right about now.

"I think that's all there is too discuss for now, we can talk in further details about what you being here will entail tomorrow once we're all rested. Everyone's dismissed while I talk with Alpha Dawn." I shivered softly knowing exactly why he wanted to talk to me and it made me anxious. I turn to nod at Finn to tell him he was allowed to go, he smiled looking unsure before bowing his head then leaving the room. Once the room is empty, I feel so ready to throw all my professionalism out the window and start making out with this delicious hunk of a man, but instead I calmly turn around to face him. He gave me an anxious smile, looking almost as excited to talk to me than I was. I nervously tucked my hair behind my hair, acting almost too feminine for my taste as I wait for him to speak...
