Chapter Three

Abby had shot Richard on the thigh. His gun never went off. Abby turns to Christie and her son, "Go upstairs now! I'll handle this." They both nod at her and Christie dashes up the stairs, with her son in her arms.

"You b*tch!" Richard groans, looking down at his bloody thigh. The two men immediately lunge for Abby but she quickly shoots the bigger one on the arm, pulls out her dagger and dashes for the other one, who's now bent over his colleague. She drives it into the back of his neck and twists it severally until there's a loud crack and he falls to the ground.

"Never turn your back on a fight," she scoffs at the corpse of the man. A gun goes off and pain shoots up Abby's shoulder, the dagger in her hand falls to the ground. Tightening the grip on her gun, she shoots the second man on his head and then turns to face Richard but he's gone.

Blood trails lead out of the house and into the night. Heading out to look for him would be stupid and dangerous. For all she knew, he could be hiding somewhere waiting for her.

The sound of footsteps come pounding through the wooden floor boards behind her. It was Christie. "Are they gone?" When she sees the two bodies laying on her carpet, she stifles a scream by covering her mouth with her hands. "C'mon, we need to get outta here. You guys should pack your things and leave. He might be back later," she states , reloading her gun and peering through the curtains which shaded the windows. "What about you, aren't you coming with us?" she asks, her brows

furrowed. "No. I'll find my way."

" But that'll be dangerous for the both of us. We need to stick together, besides if he wants my files, he'll be back looking for me and the Lord knows that I can't hold a gun... But you seem experienced, " she replies, gesturing at the two corpses laying on her body.

"Fine. You guys should pack a bit of your things and meet me downstairs in ten, " she orders. "Your shoulders bleeding," she gushes. "Do you have a first aid kit?" Abby asks, wincing as she places a finger on it. "Yeah, it's in the kitchen on the fridge," she replies before dashing upstairs.

Twenty minutes later and they're all seated in Christie's black SUV. "Got enough gas?" she asks . "Yeah. Where are we heading to?" Christie asks. "We're heading to Wisconsin," she replies. "Yeah yeah, I have my older cousin there. Maybe we can stay there until we make out next move," she suggests. "We can't put him or her at risk. We'll have to stay somewhere else," Abby replies. "Okay, do you have any place in mind?" Abby sighs and shakes her head. "Fine. Let's stay in your cousin's place but remember, we've gotta keep moving," she replies and Christie nods.

.....

It's two am in and Abby decides to pull up at an old gas station. "I'll put in the gas while you go and check if there's anything we can buy from that store over there," Abby instructs and gets out of the car. As she places the pump into the gas tank, she sighs and leans back.

There wasn't a single car on the road and even though it felt creepy, Abby couldn't help but stare around her. She was finally free...somehow. Richard wouldn't stop finding her until she was dead because she knew the address to his location and if she told on him, the federal government wouldn't waist a single heartbeat in catching him.

As she took off the pump nozzle, she spots something blinking close to the car tyres. Reaching for it, she gasps, her eyes wide open, every fibre of fatigue gone. It was a tracking device. That was why Richard hadn't bothered to fight her, instead he left and had placed the little chip underneath Christie's car.

Abby had to give it to him, he was a smart devil. Tossing it on the ground, she quickly shuts the gas tank and slips into the car where Johnny, Christie's son, lay fast asleep.

Few minutes later, Christie appears with a bag of peanuts, chips, candy and other snacks. "These were some of the things I could get. The rest are just... unhealthy," she shudders and Abby frowns at her. "I found a tracking device under the car." Christie's eyes fly wide open. "Where?" . "Close to the tyres. I bet he has our location, we've gotta keep moving," Abby says. She

turns on the engine before zooming off.

So far they had been able to cover ten miles and were getting closer and closer to Wisconsin.

Silence looms over them as Abby continues to occasionally look at the side mirrors in case of any car. "So who are you? I mean you already know who I am so it would be fitting if I knew who you were," she says.

"I'm an assassin... Well ex-assassin," she simply replies. "You mean like killing people assassin?" Christie asks, clearly bewildered. "No the kind that kill chickens silently," she replies with a scoff. A thick layer of silence drapes over them as Christie tries to process everything.

"How come you couldn't kill me?" she asks, once it had all sank in. "It just occurred to me that I didn't want this kind of life anymore. I wanted to be normal, to have a normal life, a normal job and normal friends."

"Normal friends?" . "Yeah, you think people who kill other people as a job are normal?" Abby chuckles. "Wow, I'm just shocked. I never thought that I'd be in a car sitting next to an assassin who doesn't to kill me," she breaths .

Four hours later and Abby finally pulls up in front of Christie's cousins house. The temperature had gone up. It was twenty eight degrees by the time they had pulled up. Beads of sweat roll down Abby's face as she shades her eyes from the rays of sun.

A blonde woman scurries out, a merry smile on her face and an apron tied around her waist. Johnny's first to hug her and then Christie, leaving Abby standing at the side. The woman turns to Abby, a quizzical look on her face, "Who's this?"
