Chapter Six

Peyton's POV:

"Peyton, will you please hurry up... Michael and Catherine invited us... we don't want to be late," My sweet mother says to me.

"I'm getting there, mother," I say, tying my tie and slipping on my nice church shoes. "This outfit is uncomfortable, I'm sure they wouldn't mind me going with just my leather jacket, shirt, and black jeans," I mumble as I walk down the stairs.

"Oh, stop complaining. And fix your hair," Mom says to me while wiping my hair to the side with her hand.

"Mom, will you stop touching my hair... it was perfect," I tell her while glaring at her and messing up my hair the way I like it.

"But it looks like you just woke up," She says.

"The way I like it," I growl.

"Conner... hurry up," Mom calls for my brother... he's three years older than me.

"Yes, mother," He says without complaining... he comes down in a white dress shirt, a tie, dark blue dress pants, and his church shoes.

"Good boy," Mother says.

"Can we leave now?" I ask, rolling my eyes. My wolf, Damian, and I are already dreading going and visiting these humans.

"Let's go," Conner says.

My father left us when I was around 5... mother took it hard... but Conner stepped up at the age of 8 and became the man of the house... I know... so young... he remembers father very well... me... not so much.

He started mowing lawns, helping our neighbors with groceries... he even sent out to clean people's houses just to get money... he helped mom a lot... mom told me to be a kid... that was until I was offered the role of the Beta... I'm 17... currently still in high school... and enjoying it. I'm very much enjoying it with ladies throwing themselves at me... the alcohol I get at parties I'm invited to... But recently... I've been a little jealous... my brother has this hot blonde chick named Tristan as his mate... she's smart... and strong... but when I see them together... I feel something missing... more like someone... the Moon Goddess hasn't paired me with anyone yet... it makes my wolf whimper sometimes... and it makes me think that maybe the Moon Goddess forgot all about us.

"Ready to go?" Mom cuts me out of my thoughts.

"Yes," I groaned out as I rolled my eyes and made my way into the back seat of our black 2009 Suburban... mom got it for cheaper because the guy there knows Conner... more like because he works with Conner...

"Here mom, I'll help," Conner says while helping our mother into the vehicle... he just loves being the perfect son, doesn't he? I ask myself.

Well, if you weren't such an asshole My wolf, Damian remarks rudely... what do I expect... he's a part of me.

---

When Conner parked the vehicle, we all got out, Conner helping mother, of course... we all made our way to the front door... their house is massive... I mean... no duh... it is a mansion... and they are rich... but hell... this is huge... maybe not as big as our packhouse... but still.

"Hello?" Asked... what looks like a butler.

"Oh... Mara... it's so nice to see you," A woman, I suppose is Catherine says while welcoming us into the house. This house seems even bigger on the inside... it's beautiful... and beautiful is a word that I use scarcely...

"Close your mouth," Conner whispers to me.

"Hello... you must be Conner and Peyton," she says while holding her hand out with that smile on her face. "It's so nice to meet you... my name is Catherine... my husband, Michael, should be in the dining room, and my daughter and her friend should be down in a few... and our last guest should be here soon also," Catherine says while shaking our hands and leading us to the dining hall.

"It's nice to meet you," I say with a forced smile while following her, my mom, and my brother.

When we walked into the huge dining room, there was a man sitting down at the end of the table, glasses at the tip of his nose, reading the newspaper with a cup of whiskey on the rocks in front of him.

"Michael... this is Mara and her two boys: Peyton and Conner," She says to her husband.

"Oh..." He puts his newspaper down and removes his glasses from his face. "It's nice to meet you, you three," He says while standing up, he then walks to us and shakes our hands.

"Nice to meet you, sir," Conner says while giving Michael's hand a nice gripped shake.

"You too, young man," He answers and then releases his hand... he then shakes my hand with a tight grip. "And you," He says, giving me a welcoming smile. "And Mara... Catherine hasn't stopped saying so many incredulous things about you," He says while shaking her hand.

"It's very nice to meet you, Michael," Mom says.

"You too," He says, letting mom's hand go and wrapping his arm around Catherine's shoulder. "Our daughter and a friend of hers should be down soon... have a seat," He says, motioning to the seats at the table. He pulls the seat he was just sitting in out and waits for his wife to sit down before pushing it in. I decide to walk around the table, to the other side and sit down across from my mom.

---

A few minutes had passed and we all joined in on some conversation. it wasn't awkward, surprisingly, but when I saw a beautiful angel walk into the dining room, I felt my heart almost burst out of my chest out of the shock of such beauty.

She was walking with a girl in a black dress, but she was the one that caught my eyes. She looked amazing in that baby blue dress, her makeup wasn't caked on as most girls had it in my school. She moved with so much perfection, her phone was clutched in her hand as she talked through it.

Mate my wolf claimed. I was about to hold her down and mark her, but mother stated before that these people are exactly that: humans. It was normal for a wolf to get mated with a human. I mean, Conner did, and apparently, I did too.

"Okay, see you soon," She finished off the call. Whoever that was, it better have been a girl, or I swear, I'm going to be beating some- my wolf cut me out of my thoughts as he convinced me to introduce myself.

"Hello, dear," Catherine says, standing up, along with everyone else, so I followed suit.

"Hello, you must be Mara," She tells my mother, she has manners, I like that.

"And you must be Cambry," Mother says.

"It's very nice to see you, Cambry. You look beautiful in that dress," Her father says. She answered back with an eye roll, her beautiful green eyes rolling in annoyance, but quickly covered it up with a sweet smile before he could see it.

"Thank you, father," She responds.

"I'm Peyton," I tell her as I step in front of her.

"Cambry and this is Tara," She says, pointing to her friend, but the only thing I care about is her, no one else. When I first heard about this dinner, I wasn't looking forward to it, but now, I'm up for anything as long as she's a part of it.

"Here," I pull a chair- correction- the chair beside the one I was sitting in out for her.

"Thank you," She says while motioning for Tara to sit beside her, in my seat while sitting down in the one I pulled out.

As I was going to sit in the other seat beside her, she pushed the chair in. "Sorry, my other friend sits here," She simply said, and right on cue, her friend comes walking into the dining room with a pink flowy dress on and while flats, but I still couldn't get Cambry out of my head. Damian was growling at the fact that our mate just brushed us off, I used a lot of energy to calm him down.

"Hey," Cambry says while letting the chair go and letting her other friend sit there. "Lea, I missed you," She says while hugging her while sitting down.

"I know, Cam, we really have to catch up," Lea says while hugging Cambry back.

"You two can go to the mall tomorrow," Catherine says while motioning for one of their many slaves to go away or something...

We're definitely going with them to the mall tomorrow My wolf declares.

"Here we are... the meal is served," A chef looking person says and motions for the servants to put our meals down... damn... this is so fancy... I would love it if I lived like this... I guess I practically do when I stay at the pack house... but they don't have a fancy chef... or a butler there.

"So... Cambry..."Michael starts.

Wait... why haven't we seen those two at school? My wolf asks, and he does have a good point.

"How has that school been," He finishes.

"If you're talking about the all-girls-school that's like 26 hours away from here. I have to tell you, it's amazing. There's so many nice people, plus being away from you has been so comforting. I've been taught well, as you had me promise the day you shoved me into that limo," She tells him while glaring into his eyes. Michael was caught off guard by his daughter's small outburst, but he quickly recovered.

"That's good. So school is good?" He asks, ignoring what she said. I looked into her eyes when she glanced at Lea, her eyes showed pain. All she wanted to do was tell him how she felt, but he ignored it and moved on.

"Yeah," She mumbles while picking at her food.

---

About thirty minutes into our meal, I couldn't stop wondering what was on Cambry's mind. She's been picking at the same piece of steak for the whole thirty minutes, without eating anything, while everyone else was going into many conversations.

"May I be excused?" She asks, still looking at her food and sitting down.

"Of course," Catherine says before continuing her conversation with Mara, Conner, and Michael. As soon as Catherine said the go-ahead, she quickly got up and left the dining room and went up the staircase.

About five minutes had passed, and I was curious as to how Cambry was doing so I spoke up.

"Excuse me. Where is the bathroom located?" I ask, discreetly grabbing a roll and putting it in my pocket.

"There are two, one is upstairs, it's the first room on the right, and there's one down here, a couple rooms down, to the left, it's after the laundry room," Catherine says, then continues her conversation.

I got up and made my way up the stairs. When I was at the top, I heard faded music playing. It sounded like 'My Chemical Romance'. I knocked on the door softly and waited for someone to open it. When the door opened, there was red surrounding her eyes, telling me she was definitely crying, worrying me a little further.

"Can I help you?" She asks, quickly wiping her eyes, I pretended not to notice. While Damian was whimpering at the fact of our mate being hurt.

"I noticed that you didn't eat. So-" I take the bread out. "I brought you a roll," I told her.

"Thank you," She says while grabbing the roll. As I still stood there. She stopped and turned around after setting the roll on her desk. "I'm sorry. I don't have anything to trade," She says. I had a hard time not bursting out in a fit of laughter. This girl was funny.

"That's not why I'm here. I want to know- are you okay?" I ask. I only met her thirty minutes ago, and she still was very interesting. I found interest in her within a minute, which I guess comes from the goddess who mated us together.

"I'm fine now. I'm sorry to have worried you, but maybe you should get back. I'm sure you didn't tell them that you were coming up to visit me," She says while taking a piece of the bread and putting it in her mouth. At least I know she ate something.

Before I could control my mouth, it slipped.

"Can I go to the mall with you tomorrow?" I ask, mentally slapping myself right after.

"You needing more Victoria Secret underwear for your sex doll?" She teases me with a small smirk. She's hot, she's spicy, and she's good at comebacks. Where has she been my whole life.

"I just figured I could go. You know, new friends," I say.

More like you want to stay as close to her as possible. My wolf teases me. So do you. I respond to my wolf and he cowers back in embarrassment.

"Yeah, sure, whatever," She says. "Now will you leave? Actually, give me your phone," She says, holding her hand out for my phone.

"Why?" I ask, not wanting to sound desperate.

"Do you want my number so you know what time we will be leaving?" She asks, raising one of her perfectly trimmed eyebrows.

"Of course," I say, handing her my phone. When I got it back, I looked at the name she gave herself Beauty in Blue "Love the name," I smirked at her.

"Me too," She says before shoving me out of her room and closing her door, not before saying "See you tomorrow,"

Damn. I can't wait until tomorrow.

You're like a lovesick puppy My wolf states. Says the one who's a puppy. I remark back to him and he cowers back, he hates being called a puppy.

"I hope your daughter is doing fine," Mother's voice was heard as I made it to the last stair.

"She's fine. I'll go check on her in a few minutes," Catherine says. I walk into the dining room.

"Hello, Peyton," Michael says while taking a small bite from the banana cream pie in front of him. "We had a pie put in front of your seat and Cambry's," He states.

"Actually, it looked as if she was upset. I could go and give it to her," I say, really hoping.

"Sure, Cambry could use a friend," Catherine says, smiling nicely at me.

I grab both mine and Cambry's pie off the table and head out of the dining room.

"If you could. Where is it located?" I ask, I don't want them to know I already know where it is. That might look creepy.

"First door on the left, up the staircase," Lea says.

I nod my head and head up the stairs.

When I knocked on the door, I heard a groan on the other side of the door. When she opened the door, she was shocked, but I could see the happiness in her eyes.

"Peyton?" She asked.

"I brought you some pie," I say, she opens her door, noticing the other plate in my hand other than hers.

"Thank you," She says, sitting on her bed. Her room surprised me. It had posters of My Chemical Romance, Blink 182, Panic at the Disco, and Imagine Dragons. Her room was dark and light at the same time. The thing that caught my eye was the painting on the wall.

"Are you going to sit down?" She asked while patting her bed. I nod my head and sit on her bed. It smelled of blueberries and vanilla, just like her. "Thank you for the pie, but why did you- um- bring it up here?" She asks before taking a small bite out of it with a fork.

"I want to become friends. So-" I say, a little nervous. Since when have I been nervous around a girl?

Since you met your mate My wolf remarks

"Sure. Why not?" She says. "Don't make me eat alone," She says, making me chuckle and start eating my pie.

When we were finished with our pie slices, she put her plate on her nightstand and laid down on her back on her bed.

I do the same, but put mine on the nightstand that was on my side.

"You know, that dress you're wearing, it's pretty hot," I say, I glance over at her through the corner of my eye and see her cheeks redden a bit.

"Thanks," She mumbles. Is she not used to compliments? I ask myself. She went to an all-girls school. My wolf reminds me.

"So. If you don't mind. Why did your parents send you to an all-girls school instead of to our high school?" I ask, I can see her tension about the topic.

"I guess they figured it might be safer," She lied. I could tell that she was lying. I'm just good at telling, but I decided not to push the topic. My wolf whines at the fact of our mate lying.

"So, how is high school life?" She asks, rolling on her side and giving me her attention. Her aqua-colored eyes searched mine, curiously. All I can think about is how beautiful she looks.

"It could be better," I say, telling the truth. You could be there.

"Really?" She asks, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah-" Before I could stop myself it just slipped out. "You could be there," I say, I mentally beat myself. Damn. This girl makes me nervous.

"I'm sure it's not that bad," She says. "Going to a school where we are practically being watched on the clock, always around girls, unless you count our male teachers. So being at a public school where bitches are, nerds, males. I'm sure it can't be that bad," She says.

"You have male teachers?" I ask, interested.

"Yeah, the younger ones sometimes try to get into the girl's pants. It's-" She stops while trying to think of a word. "Nauseating," She finishes. Her explanation made me want to beat someone's ass. Male teachers flirting with girls at an all-girls school. That pisses me off, especially if my mate goes there.

Peyton. We got a little bit of a problem Alpha Spencer states through our mind link. Let me explain- Spencer Black has been my best friend since we were little pups... we did everything together. His dad was practically my dad. His dad put his pack: The Blue Moon on Spencer's shoulders when he got attacked by rogues. It so happens that my dad was the Beta of Spencer's dad's pack also. They both got killed by rogues the same day. It was the day that Spencer turned 18, he made me his Beta and I helped train pups and keep the rogues out of our territory. At least while he was mourning over his dad. I, on the other hand, didn't know my father well enough. He left our home to live at the packhouse. He told my mother to stay at our house with us to keep away from the danger. He did that when I was around the age of 5.

"Hey, are you okay?" Cambry's face showed worry. "Your eyes seemed fogged, but I figured it was just the light," She says.

"I'm fine. I actually have to go, do you mind?" I ask, not wanting her to be upset at me.

"Do what you have to do. I'll see you tomorrow," She says.

"I'll pick you up," I tell her while leaving her room and going downstairs. "Mom A-" I cut myself off by clearing my throat. "Spencer needs me," I tell her as I step into the dining room.

"Of course, go ahead, honey," She says.

"Need help?" Conner asks. Even though he's the older brother, he's the hacker of our pack. He's good at it too.

"I don't think so, but we'll see," I tell him.

"Alright. Good luck, then," Conner says while finishing up his pie.

---

As I ran through the woods in my wolf form, I saw the rogues attacking our pack... the first thing that was on my mind was the trainee pups... I saw some of the maids pushing the pups to the normal safe place.

As soon as I looked back to the war between the rogues and our pack, I see Ryder, Spencer's wolf under a Rogue, almost about to get killed, so I run, using my werewolf speed towards him, and jump towards them, shoving the rogue into a tree and making it whimper in pain and fall to the ground, lifeless.

Thanks, man. He mind links me... I just nod my head and continue attacking the rogues.

---

When our war was finished... Spencer and I met up after getting dressed and taking a shower.

"They'll be back," He says, looking through his paperwork. "We just gotta know when," He says, sitting at his desk.

"Yeah... you do that... I'm going to get some rest... I'm going to the mall with this girl and her friends," I say while heading out of his office.

"What're their names?" He asks.

"Who?" I ask.

"The people you're going with," He says, not looking up.

"There's Cambry Jaxon, a girl named Tara, and Leilani," I answered.

"Leilani? You mean the unmated hot redhead at our school?" He asks.

"Yeah. She and Cambry are best friends," I say.

"Do you think Cambry knows about- You know?" He asked me.

"Who knows," I answered.

"Anyways... I'm leaving," I tell him.

"I'm going with you... so stay here tonight," He tells me.

"Whatever, man," I groan... even though I practically live here with a room and everything... I can't handle this guy named Adrian... he's always talking about stupid shit and trying to become my buddy... when all I want to do is stab him with wolf's bane.

As I make my way up to my room, my wolf is whining and complaining about not being next to our mate.

Will you stop? She's human, she probably doesn't know. We don't want to frighten her. I tell Damian, but all he does is whine again and cower back.
