1 Arrival of the apocalypse[1]

Splash!

A black jeep zoomed through a shallow pond, splashing the water around with a loud noise.

Seated at the backseat of the jeep was a boy with curly black hair and deep black eyes. He had a fair complexion, and a face that was quite handsome.

In his hands was a sheet of white paper, and his eyes remained glued on it, shining with admiration.

Drawn on the paper was the beautiful image of a simple family, which consisted of him, his mom and dad and one other boy with dark brown hair.

It was drawn with a pencil and in the background was a huge mansion decorated beautifully with lots of flowers.

Despite only being a drawing, it looked so realistic that the images seemed alive. A masterpiece; that was the only word that could be used to describe the drawing.

Blake's eyes shone even more as he stared at the image in his hands. His fingers trembled slightly around the edges and he held the paper like it was the most treasurable thing in the world.

"Mom, look at this!" He said as he tapped the woman in the front seat, in a bid to get her attention.

His mother, a brown haired beauty with light brown eyes noticed him and collected the paper from his hands.

Her eyes shone with amazement as she stared at the drawing.

"Timmy… you drew this?" She asked, despite knowing the truth already.

Even though this wasn't the first time she had seen his drawings, she still couldn't help but be amazed.

"Timmy" was actually a nickname given to him by his parents, he got it when he was six due to his huge obsession with a cartoon character whose name was Timmy.

However, the name stuck and over the years, his mom and even some of his close friends started calling him Timmy rather then his actual name, Blake.

His father still addressed him as Blake, mainly because he was quite strict and saw the name "Timmy" as childish.

"Yes." Blake said while nodding his head, waiting early for her review on his drawing.

"It's beautiful..." She said with a proud smile on her face as she stared at the image.

A strange glint flashed through her eyes when she stared at the dark brown haired boy in the drawing, but it was only for a second before it vanished like it was never there.

Hearing her response, a bright smile also blossomed on the boy's face. Though she only said a few words, those words made him feel even happier and fulfilled.

Her husband—the one driving, a dark skinned man with short black hair glanced at the drawing with a slight smile.

However, the smile only lasted for a few seconds before he suddenly coughed awkwardly.

"Blake, didn't we talk about drawing in cars?" He asked while flashing a knowing glance at the kid in the backseat.

Since drawing in the car, especially in a time like this was quite dangerous and could make his son uncomfortable, he advised him against doing so.

"Huh? I drew it at home dad, I only forgot to show you because you weren't home then." Blake mumbled in a timid voice.

His father chuckled lightly and then took another glance at the paper.

"It's a beautiful drawing." He had a proud smile on his face as he said this, and that alone, made Blake happy.

The family talked more, making a few more jokes and laughing together.

A small smile formed on his face as he looked outside the window. The road was quite busy with lots of cars passing by and the day was bright also.

'I'm sure today will be a memorable one…' He mumbled inwardly as the smile on his face widened again.

His expression and the way he acted didn't seem to match his appearance.

From his face and body structure, it was quite obvious that he was still a teenager between the age of sixteen to seventeen.

However, his smile and the way he carried himself seemed more like that of a fourteen year old.

The man, whose name was Alfred, turned on the car radio.

A coupled of weird clicking and glitching sounds reverberated from the network, this went on for a few more seconds as kept changing the channel, in hopes to find one that was clear.

However, even after switching between all the available channels, he still couldn't find one that wasn't cracking.

"Here we go again… with this bad signal." He mumbled while clicking his tongue.

"You shouldn't stress yourself too much about it honey…" His wife said.

Alfred didn't reply and simply focused back on the road.

Silence reigned in the car for a few more minutes, before it was suddenly broken by a loud rumbling sound.

A loud thunder reverberated around, with lightning flashing across the skies.

The clouds suddenly darkened, and the whole area was plunged into darkness. Even though it was afternoon, the way everywhere was dark made it seem like midnight.

"What?!" Alfred exclaimed as he hit his hand on the middle of the steering. The car horn blared out due to his action, but none of the other drivers on the road paid attention to him.

"Today was supposed to sunny!" He exclaimed with a deep frown.

Apparently, he wasn't the only one complaining as different murmurs started rising from the other cars on the road, most of them complaining about the sudden change in whether.

According to the whether reports, today was going to be sunny, and not cloudy or rainy, so they were all surprised by this sudden change.

Most of the cars started turning on their headlights at this point, so they would be able to clearly see the road ahead of them.

Meanwhile, Alfred kept clicking his tongue as he also turned on his headlights.

"What bad luck…" His wife, sarah, said.

"I'm sorry Blake, seems like we wouldn't make it to the airport today." The man said as he looked back at the boy behind him.

Blake's expression turned a little sour, but it was only for a moment before it brightened up at his father's next words.

"You shouldn't worry though, I'll make it up to you on your birthday."

He nodded happily before resting his head on the window with a slight smile on his face.

The man didn't say anything else and only kept driving.

"Seem like a storm's coming…" He muttered, but the woman by his side could still hear him and she nodded in agreement.

However, just as he was looking for a way to reverse the car, his eyes suddenly caught sight of something ahead.

It was a pair of large green eyes the size of an adult's fist. It was so far out in the sky that even the light from the headlights weren't able to make out its appearance.

The eyes glowed dimly in the darkness, sending chills down his spine. He didn't understand the reason, but something about those eyes made him uneasy.

"What… the hell is that?" He mumbled, sweat dripping down his chin.

"Huh?" His wife muttered before turning her head to see what the man was staring at.

Seeing the huge pair of green eyes, she also gasped in fear and surprise.

Blake, who was at the back didn't even notice anything that was going on. He was so lost in his thoughts to the point where every other thing became non-existent to him.

This was a bad habit of his, losing himself in his imaginations to pass time faster. Of course, his parents had already warned him against doing this, but he didn't listen. He was already addicted to it.

However, the more Sarah stared at the odd pair of eyes, and its outline, she noticed it resembled the compound eye of an insect… a really large one at that.

There was a weird tingling feeling at the back of her neck that made her feel like whatever that was, it was definitely dangerous.

Suddenly, the green eyes seemed to grow bigger as whatever that was started to move closer.

Before long, it moved close enough for the lights to catch and when everyone got a clear view of it, their eyes widened in shock.

It was a large black insect of about 20 inches, with huge green eyes and a transparent pair of wings that were flapping on its back.

For a few seconds, everyone stared at the giant insect with wide opened mouths.

"That doesn't look good… we should turn! Alfred, now!" Sarah shouted.

The man also broke out of his stupor and hurriedly changed the car gear, in a bid to reverse.

However, the huge insect suddenly dashed forward, heading straight for their car!
