Chapter 9: Such a bad day

After Ashlyn had given Carlos an instruction, she let him go but before he left, she asked for his contact which he gave her. Not that she wanted to call him, she only thought he might be of help to her someday. If that day would ever come.

Her order was brought and she ate silently while observing her surroundings. After the meal, she paid her bill using her card before leaving the restaurant and walking to the park. On getting to the park, she saw the benches were occupied either with couples trying to get some free time together or college students having their conversations or others trying to make out but either ways, they were all going on with their different activities in pairs.

Searching for an empty space even if it's not totally empty, her eyes landed on a bench that had only one occupant. It was not yet time to go and meet Kait and she had nothing doing so killing time by just staying here and enjoying the view and Inhaling the fine breeze. That was the best for her.

The bench was near the side of the river that divided the two part of the park. Walking towards the bench, she said politely, "Hi! Can I seat here? The rest places are all occupied." It wasn't really necessary for her to explain since it was a public place but thinking that this person might be like her who loves her privacy, it was only better if she asked.

Waiting for a reply but got non, Ashlyn decided to just seat down quietly. Immediately she sat down, she saw the man turn his head and stared at her. Why he was staring? She had no idea. Finding it uncomfortable, she spoke, "Do I have something on my face?" Her voice filled with irritation.

Hearing Ashlyn words, the man only cleared his throat Before standing up and leaving. "Why is today such a bad day? Set of lunatics everywhere." Ashlyn sighed in frustration before leaning backward on the bench.

After few hours, the setting of the sun hovered over the city as people started leaving the park one after another and Ashlyn was not an exception. The day for her went by with too many incidents happening to her but yet it wasn't fully over, she still had a last appointment.

Thinking of going home to get her car, she just felt uninterested in driving for today and decided to take a cab instead. Walking few meters to the junction where she can board a cab, she waited for less than five minutes before a taxi pulled over at her front and she entered. Telling her destination to the driver she sat down relaxed at the backseat.

Looking outside the window, her phone rang and she picked it immediately she saw the caller ID on the screen. It was her mother, Mrs Pedro.

"Are you home?" That was the first thing Mrs Pedro said.

"No mum. Is everything okay?"

"Yes, just called to give you an information that's all. Anyways, where are you?"

"I'm going to see Kait. So what information?"

"Oh, send my regards to her..."

"I will mum... So?"

"I picked a date for you tomorrow..."

"What?" Ashlyn exclaimed, cutting her mother off. "C'mon, not again mum, please. I thought we talked about this earlier."

"No, we didn't and I'm not going to take no for an answer. I already briefed Clara on everything else tomorrow so don't be stubborn and just comply."

"You're the one being stubborn here" With pouted lips, "You know I hate such things why do you still want me to go." Ashlyn complained and the next sound she heard over the phone drowned her In concern.

"Ouch!! My head it hurts." Mrs Pedro faked.

"Mum, are you alright?" Voice filled with concern, Ashlyn blurted out.

"You know the doctor said I should go for check up tomorrow."

"You're going to go right?"

"No, I hate it."

"Mum, stop being stubborn."

"You hate blind dates and I hate check ups so we're even."

Ashlyn heard her mother's words and she released a deep sigh of frustration. She knew her mother too well and she understood what she was trying to do. "You've won. I'll go for the date tomorrow but you have to go for your check up."

Mrs Pedro face curved into a smile and if her daughter was seeing her now, she would see the wide smile on her face. Using this method was the only way Ashlyn would succumb to her request and Mrs Pedro wasn't ready to let go of this opportunity.

She couldn't help but picture the look on her daughter's face right now. How she wish her daughter would just pick someone then she won't have to go through this means but knowing this daughter of her's, this was the only way.

"I'll go for the check up, trust me. Don't forget to ask Clara about the details, she'll fill you in. Good night, my little angel." Mrs Pedro joyfully said before ending the call.

"Ah! How can I win against you when you know my weak spot." Ashlyn muttered under her breath before shrugging off the thoughts.

After a few minutes of drive, the driver stopped at the front of an expansive five storeys building which had a name plate boldly written at the front. 'LORENZO CASINO AND BAR'. Paying the cab man, Ashlyn entered the building after passing the security guards.

This was the best casino in the city and it wasn't just for anyone. it was only meant for high ranged officials in the country, influencer and wealthy people that holds a deep spot in the country.

Passing the lobby, Ashlyn took the stairs as she called Kait to find out where she was. Getting information from Kait that she was at the fourth floor, Ashlyn went there and on entering there, just as expected, it was calm and peaceful unlike the three other floors she passed.

The fifth floor was the VIP floor and this being the fourth floor was for people who needed serene environment to relax with their different reasons. The chandeliers shone their multicolored light brightly, though it was dark but it had effect.

Sighting Kait right from the door, Ashlyn walked towards her. "My baby girl is finally here." Kait said with a smile on her face.
