The man in the painting

Chapter one,

I looked out the window, watching the clouds pass by thinking, 'This class couldn't be more boring.'

The teacher droned on with her lesson as I started to do some drawings in my journal, a man with beautiful black hair and an elegant face with darkened eyes and a smirk that rested on his blissful face.

'If only you were real…' I thought to myself.

The bell rang as the final class of the day came to an end. I picked up my books and walked to my locker to grab my things from it. I was ready to bolt out of that school as fast as I could before I died from boredom.

"BOO!"

I jumped and looked at my friend Sarah who had a starky smirk on her face.

"Don't do that!" I yelled at her; trying to catch my breath.

"Sorry, you make it too easy, I can't just leave you alone." she laughed.

"Are you kidding me? I swear you're trying to kill me." I told her.

"If I wanted to, I'd do it already but I don't. Anyway, hey are you going to Jerry's party tonight? I hear it's going to be off the wall insane" she said.

"Ok do me a favor… stop quoting Michael Jackson song titles in your speech and no I'm not. …" I told her.

"I can't stop, I haven't had enough." she laughed.

"And why; it's going to be so fun I can't wait it's going to be so much blood on the dance floor." she sighed

"Why so I could go by myself while everyone else makes out with each other…..no I'm good." I tell her as I scrunch up my nose.

"Beside…I have a date. …" I smiled as I slammed my locker shut.

"With who? Your canvas?" She laughed.

"Why yes...my beautiful canvas. I have to paint the most beautiful portrait to win that art contest to get that scholarship. I can't have someone else beat me to it." I replied.

"Yeah but you're in college...you should be having some fun….not just...work... besides you can always go with Jason…." She said slightly winking at me as he passed by.

I watched as he and his friends walked past us, goofing off and laughing. His tall figure, brown hair swayed with the wind as his beautiful blue eyes made contact with mine briefly then went back onto his friends. It was like the world around us in that brief moment was going in slow motion as we watched each other from afar.

"Hello Isabelle, Earth to Isabelle please pick up…."

I shook my head and turned my attention back onto Sarah.

"Huh... you were saying something?" I cleared my throat taking another glance at Jason before he turned down the hallway.

"I was saying you should ask him out...live a little...football yay…." She said sarcastically.

"No way in hellishious hell will I ask him out…." I tell her.

"Besides I gotta paint."

"Seriously???" She scoffed.

"Hey this girl has priorities…."I laughed.

"Suit yourself…..I'm going with your brother." she smiled.

"Good luck with that." I scoffed at her as we started walking towards the exit.

"What happened to you….you used to be so much fun…"she said as she pouted.

"Things change...I have a goal I want to reach and I can't afford to mess it up." I tell her honestly.

"I get it...just don't change too much don't forget me ok?" She replied as we stopped on the stairs.

"Why would I, you're my best friend."I chuckled.

"It will always be that way….ohh your brother is here….I gotta go bye!" She squealed as she ran down the stairs.

"Uhh bye? ..." I said quietly as she hopped in his car and waved goodbye.

I shook my head and started for my car only to get stopped by a guy.

"Hey I was wondering if you were going to Jarrey's party? Maybe I can see you there or you know take you there….?" He asked with a raised eyebrow and a smirk.

"Me go with you?" I looked him up and down. "I don't think so…besides I have places to be ..excuse me." I scoffed and started walking away.

"HEY! I wasn't asking, I'm telling you to go with me…"he mumbled angrily as he grabbed my arm.

"Hey let go… I'm not even going anyway so just chill…"I shouted as I yanked my arm from him.

I quickly ran up to my car and got in.

"Hey....I'm sorry...I just like you ok.." he apologized as he grabbed my car door.

"I get that...but that's no way to treat someone you like ok, I have to get home…"I say awkwardly.

I closed my door and drove home.

Nikolai and my best friend Sarah have been together for a while now, it's not as strange as it used to be seeing them together anymore, but it does leave me feeling kinda left out.

Once I got home, I threw my keys on the kitchen table and walked up to my room and shut the door behind me. I took off my shoes and changed into something comfortable.

I took out my canvas from my closet and sat down staring at it…

I glanced over the white paper imagining what I'd draw on it. Slowly his face appeared. Shortly after that...the background.

"Ok… let's do this!" I said thinking about the art contest coming up soon.

I took a deep breath and drew the same guy I did before in class, only this time, sitting in a red chair next to a fireplace reading a green book with gold lettering on it.

I painted him in colors of blacks and red. A few hours had passed and I had finished a perfect painted canvas of my imagination.

"Man ...I wish you were real...your sexy as hell...Damn I'm good!" I smiled as I looked over the painting.

" Now what do I call you?" I said out loud to no one in particular.

'Dantalion' I hear faintly.

I looked around the room as if someone was with me.

"Who's there?" I called out.

But, no one replied.

"Yep….I'm officially going crazy." I sighed then decided I would keep that name.

" Dantalion huh….how do you even spell that…?" I mumbled as I wrote the name on the canvas and signed it.

"It's done." I said as I smiled and looked over my beautiful accomplishment.

I decided to take a shower and eat before I went to bed. I chanted that name over and over again in my head. I thought it fit perfectly, a beautiful name for a beautiful painting.

Once I got upstairs I felt this incredible strong heat wave once I got to my room door, it was a very strange intense sensation. It was as if I had just opened up the door to a steaming hot sauna. I walked in, turned off my lights and sat on my bed and looked around the room then at my painting. I stared at it lovingly for a moment and thought I wish he was real one last time before I laid down.

Then I heard it, that sound ...it was like paper ripping,

I immediately sat up from my bed and scanned the room, then my eyes fell back on the painting...the thought of what I was seeing made my skin crawl…

The man was no longer looking at the book, he was facing me.

I rubbed my eyes as another sound that sounded like paper was being torn to shreds was heard.

I looked back at the painting as it grew hotter in my room.

My heart rate started to pick up faster, I started to panic, he was standing up completely now and a mischievous grin was replaced on his face.

"This can't be happening...I'm dreaming I know I'm dreaming..." I said as I watched him step out of the painting completely.

"This is no dream, my dear." was all I heard before I blacked out.
