Chapter 23: I am the Captain Now?

Entering the Guild with Athena and Leonmitchelli by my side I headed straight up to Rose at the reception desks.

"Yo, Rose. How have you been?" I asked her.

"The same." She said. Wearing her usual resting bitch-face expression.

"Oh come on, can I at least get a smile?" I asked her. "After all, aren't you happy three of your assigned adventurers have leveled up all at once and gotten alias's?"

Three days have passed mine, Leonmitchelli's, and Gaul's alias's were released to the general populace of Orario along with the others who were named at Denatus.

"Some of my adventurers have gotten alias's before. It's not a big deal." Rose retorted.

"Sure, sure, whatever you say." I told her. "So let's get down to business shall we?"

"Yes, let's." Rose said.

She then stepped from behind the counter and guided the three of us to private room. Once inside she left for a moment and then returned with paperwork, placing it in front of us.

"Please fill these out?" She asked us.

As soon as she did so Athena, Leonmitchelli, and I got to work.

Turns out a familia is basically like a business.

There are a bunch of forms and other non-sense that needs to be taken care of. Adventurers can't just go running into the dungeon all the time.

Right now is a perfect example.

Today we are here completing registration forms for Gaul, Leonmitchelli, and I to be officially recognized as third-class adventurers by the Guild. Doing so allows us to have more benefits as adventurers in the long-run.

Access to more information, better deals on weapons and potions, etc..

As to why Gaul isn't here with us today...he's come down with a cold.

The other day on our way back from the dungeon he got trenched when somebody emptied a bucket of clothes-cleaning water out of their window.

We thought we got home in time enough for Gaul to get out of his wet clothes and dry himself off, but it looks like we were wrong.

So right now he is lying in bed at home resting up, the others looking after him.

Also, I learned a fun fact.

While potions, elixirs, and other magical items can restore physical and mental health most of the time, they can do nothing for things that occur naturally like sickness or disease.

So when people get sick here there is no instant recovery. There body has to fight off the disease on its own unless it is caused directly by magic or the like.

Learn something new every day.

Moving on.

The three of us were able to fill out the paperwork pretty easily. Then once we were all done and checked to make sure we had done it right we handed all of it back to Rose who checked it herself.

A few minutes passed before she nodded.

"Everything is in order." She told us. "Now then there is one more matter that we need to take care of today. Familia registration." Rose said.

I am not surprised at all.

Since Athena and the others told Ryner, Ryuu, and I they hadn't registered what type of familia they wanted to be yet. Even though they already knew.

Well it's not like it was required back when they were first starting out, but I learned through my studies with Rose that once a familia acquires someone with the rank of third-class adventurer or higher they must register what type of familia they want to be no matter what.

Politics and logistics I suppose.

Anyway, it's a good thing we're ready to handle this matter.

"Ok, what type of familia do you wish to be?" Rose asked us.

"Exploration-type." Leonmitchelli answered with a grin.

"Ok." Rose said. "And who is your captain?" She asked.

"Actually we haven't discussed that yet." I said. "Can we have some time?"

"Sure. But it would better for me to know your decision by the end of the week." Rose explained.

"That is acceptable." Athena said. "Anything us we need to handle today Ms. Rose?"

"No. Other than the familia registration paperwork you are all set." Rose told us. "Also, good job leveling up." She told us. "Tell Gaul I said the same."

"Will do Rose." I told her. Giving her a smile.

When I did so I saw a faint smile appear on her own face as well.

Nice.

Once the paperwork was all said and done we three returned home.

Then as soon as we did so we called for a meeting.

Minus Gaul, who is still on bed rest.

"So, we need to make another decision." I began. "We need to decide on a captain for the familia."

"Eh, Morax what are you talking about?" Ryuu asked me. "Aren't you already the captain?"

"What?" I questioned. "No, no, no. I am not the captain. This is why we're having the meeting right now in the first place."

"Ok, let's put it to a vote then. All in favor of Morax becoming our captain?" Leonmitchelli asked. She then raised her own hand.

As did the others.

"Eh?" I questioned. "You guys really want me to be the captain?"

They all nodded.

"Am, I'm flattered. But Milli, and Leon wouldn't you two like to be the captain instead? I mean, you two and Gaul were Athena's first children so it makes sense for one of you to have the position instead of me." I reasoned.

They both shook their heads.

"I am not captain material." Millhiore admitted. "But Morax, if you are in the lead I will trust you."

"The same." Leonmitchelli said. "And Gaul will agree. Besides, you probably already know this but my brother isn't really the leader-type unless absolutely necessary."

Yeah, that's true.

"And as for me, well I just think you would do a better job." Leonmitchelli admitted. "And it's just like Miili said if you are leading I will trust you."

Well looks like the decision is unanimous.

"Since you all feel that way I'll do it." I said.

Looks like I am the captain now.

"But Leon, if you would please become the vice-captain?" I asked her.

"No problem." She said.

So with her answer everything is set.

Following that I finished filling out the paper work. Then the next day returned it to Rose at the guild so it could be filed.

Once that was done I returned home and did some training.

Specifically I worked on learning how to use concurrent chanting. Since its a super useful skill. One that will be immensely helpful the deeper we go into the dungeon.

Which is exactly why Ryner, and Ryuu worked to learn it alongside me.

Millihiore as well.

Since when she leveled up she not only got a skill, but some magic as well. A double boon.

We four worked on this until Gaul fully recovered. Which took a week.

But once he was back to full strength I made my first official declaration as the familia captain.

We were heading to the 13th floor.

Time for us to taste the strength of the middle floors for ourselves.
