Let You Down

Bora and Astrol had arrived at Astrol's house after really long traffic. Bora walked with Astrol until they reached her door step where Nanny Yu was waiting. "Today was so fun, geez we hang out like this more often", Bora said as they reached the front door. "But we already hang out a lot", Astrol said with a smile and Bora just shrugged, a silly smile on her face. "Alright take care, I'll call you later, k?", Bora said before she turned to greet Nanny Yu. "Ok, send my regards to Xander by the way. I hope he's feeling better now" "Don't worry, he'll be fine. Byeee" "Byee", Astrol replied with a smile. She waved to her one last time before she turned and entered into her house with Nanny Yu right behind her.

...

Bora entered into the car and went straight to her house. She decided to use her phone during the car ride, and was surprised to see so many voice notes from her mother. She actually didn't see them earlier on because she was busy having fun with the girls and her phone was switched off. She let out countless sighs as she read through the messages. Ever since her dad died when she was six, her mum started becoming so overprotective over her and Xander. Her mother had loved her dad so much, so she didn't take well to his death. As a result she channeled all of her emotions unto the two of them, and they became the only thing that mattered to her. Which was why she easily got worried when any of them weren't around or within her reach.

Bora's thoughts were interrupted when her driver informed her that they were already at her house. Bora could see her mum and brother at the entrance awaiting her, so she quickly got out and rushed towards them. "Mum!", Bora greeted as she hugged her. "Oh my baby, what took so long, you were meant to get here fifteen minutes ago", Mrs Go said in a sullen voice. "I know I know, but we lost track of time and I'm sorry I couldn't reply to your messages either, my phone was switched off", she explained and her mother's expression relaxed. "Alright, that's enough. Let's go have dinner now, hmm?", Mrs Go said, and with that, they all headed inside.

Mrs Go went into the kitchen and began to reheat the food, while a few of their helpers helped set the table. "Looks like someone's feeling better", Bora teased with a meaningful smile at Xander. Her mum always went overboard whenever any of them were sick. That morning, her mum had kept on insisting to help Xander brush his teeth, and had even stayed in his room while he bathed to listen just in case he fell or needed help. Xander couldn't help but roll his eyes at his twin sister's words. Bora and Xander were identical twins. They were so identical that it was contrasting. Bora was beautiful as a girl and Xander was very handsome as a boy. If he were to put on a wig and light make up, he would look exactly like Bora at first glance, except for the sharp edges to his face. However, if he took it all off, he would look too handsome to have been that beautiful in the first place. He and Bora had even switched with each other once when they were in grade 1. They dressed up like the other and went to the others classes. Bora cut her hair, while Xander grew out his. They'd fooled their classmates for days.

At dinner, they all talked and ate heartily. Bora was glad to see her mum happy and at peace as they all sat enjoying the meal. She wished that her mum would always stay that way. Since she was older than Xander by five minutes, she saw it as her responsibility to make sure that her family always remained happy. Everything was going smoothly until a phone suddenly rang. Seeing it was her phone, Bora picked it up from the table. Her face suddenly went dark as soon as she saw the caller ID. "Aren't you going to answer that?", Xander asked seeing the way Bora just stared at her screen and back at them. "Uhm...yeah, I will but a little later. It's not that important, so let's just focus on this lovely dinner", Bora said adjusting her bangs and fiddling with her hair. Xander threw her a suspicious look because she was fond of playing with her short black bob like hair and bangs whenever she was nervous or lied. And in this case, he was guessing she was lying. But, why though.....

Bora noticed Xander's suspicious gaze at her and decided to quickly change the subject. "By the way Xander, Astrol checked in and wished you a fast recovery", Bora spoke, saying the first thing that came to mind. Xander was stunned and froze for like five seconds, before looking down at his food as he mouthed an "Mm", as a reply. They focused on eating afterwards, and after a while, Bora excused herself from the table. The moment she entered her room, her phone rang again. "Haven't I told you to be more careful while calling me! Why would you call during dinner like that?!", Bora scolded as soon as the call got connected. The call eventually came to an end after only a few minutes. Bora let out a silent sigh and let her eyes lazily wonder around her room, until her eyes fell on the family portrait hanging just above her bed. Her gaze softened as it zeroed in on the man in the picture hugging his wife and two kids. "I promise I won't let you down dad", Bora whispered, her eyes brimming with determination. She stared at the frame for a little longer, before letting go of a very long deep sigh.
