Off To War

(Sorry. I wrote half this chapter last week before I ended up writing 3 other stories: 2 fanfics and an original. Godzilla's Jinchuriki (Naruto Fanfic), I Can See (Sharingan in Marvel), and The Divorced Sage Became A Father are gonna get released later this week)

"Pull up the anchors!"

"Tie down the jets! Make sure they don't move while we're en route!"

"Get your asses ready! The boss lady says that we are moving out soon!"

All the members of Edgerunners were aboard the Kujira as it finished all its preparations to set off for Bialya. Jason and Rose were ready to commit their full force toward the war since this was the time that they showed off their military power.

They had proved the strength of their elites time and time again. This time, they needed to prove the military power of their other members. So Jason had come to an agreement with Queen Bee that he would take full control of the military operation for the first 3 days. After that, Queen Bee and the Injustice League would provide any assistance that would be needed.

Many of the recruits were eager to prove themselves. They had been stuck doing nothing but training scenarios and security. The only ones that got to go on mercenary missions were Scandal's squad and the most elite members. This would be their first actual battle.

While the youngbloods were looking forward to the battle, Scandal and the others were in their private lounge. They all knew just how serious this upcoming fight was since they had privy to private information.

"Why did the boss make us do this solo? Even if we all go in at once, there will still be casualties for our other members," Velocity asked

"That's the point, Sis," Ballistic corrected her. "There needs to be casualties."

"She's right," Scandal added "We have yet to lose. That is making these other guys think we are invincible. Thinking that way will cost us dearly one day. Better to snub it out with a battle we have confidence in winning and reinforcements even if something unexpected happens."

Velocity nodded but she still felt bad for their subordinates. While they were dealing with the Beetles, the others would have to handle the full force of The Reach. She was fine with killing her enemies but didn't expect that she would have to let those under her die.

Ballistic patted her sister on the back. Although she also didn't wish for them to die, their sacrifice was necessary.

While they were talking about the upcoming battle, Jason was in his lab.

*Crash!*

Rose walked in to see a pile of scrap metal appearing in the middle of the floor. She walked past it to see Jason panting heavily as he focused on a new piece of cyberware.

"I take it this one isn't any good either," Rose commented while looking at the pile on the floor

"No! No matter what I try, I can't make anything above bleeding-edge street-tier cyberware without making something that will turn even me into a cyberpsycho!"

No matter which power he tried to replicate, Jason kept hitting the same bottleneck. Human bodies and minds could not handle the burden of powers without changing their physiology along with...

"Why the fuck didn't I think of that sooner?!?!"

Jason threw the pieces of tech off his table before reclining in his chair and going into his head to start running calculations. rose saw that Jason was off doing his thing so she decided to start head down to the Goufs and have another training session with them.

Jason realized that he had been focusing too much on cyberware this entire time. While cyberware was powerful, it was limited based on the person. They had natural limits. So the best way to overcome those natural limits would be simply rewriting them.

'And luckily, I already have a detailed layout of my genes. Now I just need to figure out how to tweak it to suit me best.'

During the trip to Bialya, Jason focused on ways to change his genes. Using the knowledge he gained from Ivo and Morrow's study of metahumans, it wasn't too hard.

By the time the Kujira landed, Jason had increased his humanity to well over 2000. It took several attempts but he was able to create artificial 'humanity' in himself. With his increased humanity, Jason was able to equip several of the new meta-ware he created.

On the deck of the ship, Jason and the rest of his Edgerunners looked at the nation that would become their next battlefield.

"Talia! Let me go!"

Talia looked at her former lover with pity in her eyes. Even after she told him that his family had been saved and it was actually her father who arranged to have them killed, the man was still blinded by rage.

"Bruce, my dear. What shall you do if I release you?"

"I'll kill them all! They came after my family! They need to be put down!"

A sad smile bloomed on Talia's face.

"Bruce, darling. Your family is alive now. You even have a son here. Why do you need revenge? We can leave it all behind."

But Bruce wasn't having it. He had witnessed how his family was systematically slaughtered. All because Jason and Ra's were playing a game with one another. He wouldn't allow them to play their game anymore. He wanted to flip the whole board.

"This is the last time, Talia. Let. Me. Go!"

But Talia shook her head.

"If you go, you will die. So I will make it that you will return to me."

The door to the room opened. All of the ripperdocs she had came into the room while bringing trays with them. Each of these trays had parts on them.

As for where the parts came from, they were 'donated' by advanced androids and cyborgs like Amazo and Metallo.

"If you wish to be the Batman that is bound by revenge, that is fine. I shall help you seek your revenge."
