77 Trait levels

Alex had noticed that according to the system in order to level up his traits he needed to fulfil certain conditions much like when he unlocked them , though much easier. most behaved like working out did normally were he simply needed to make use of them over and over in order to strengthen them. [compact stomach] was one such trait while the other traits had more specific requirements such as his [water breathing] trait. the requirement for that to level up was to eat the gills of five hundred waterbreathing creatures.

This sounded like an unreasonable number but since the requirement didn't mention how large the gills had to be Alex could simply eat five hundred minnows to achieve it. Each of his traits fell into these two categories of requirements including his [Omnivore] fused trait that actually needed him to develop an additional two consumption related traits to level up. [Bone eater] was one of them but Alex still needed one more which led him to a risky idea. 'If I focus on creating a trait for it while eating a mineral of some kind I may get the last trait for that requirement.' Alex thought while eyeing the large salt crystal pile near the stockpile.

Obviously Alex didn't intent to eat pure salt in large amounts to gain a trait for it since he would likely die before managing it. salt in small amounts is find to ingest even for animals like him but whole chunks of salt at once is lethal. 'Rather than tempt fate i think i'll go for a safer route and try and gain a poison resistance trait before aiming for a poison eater trait.' Alex decided before leaving his nest. No one knew why Alex wanted a poison shroom but since that was what he chose to take for the day from the stockpile no one stopped him either.

The foreman just watched Alex walk with the mushroom in his mouth all the way back to his nest and vanish behind the door flap. 'that is a really odd little dude. i can't ever seem to figure out how he thinks.' the man thought with a sigh. when alex took the tuna the foreman thought Alex would only take food stuff for repayment , which while cheap is very common. but with Alex grabbing a literal poisonous plant by itself this thought was thrown on it's back.

Alex had wasted no time taking a big bite of the large purple mushroom when he got back to his nest and after swallowing that mouthful the system rewarded him with two traits for his bravery. Unfortunately he couldn't know this until close to three hours later when the poison in his system began to break down. The poison shroom might not be lethally poisonous but it was certainly enough to make Alex feel like he was dying.

Once alex stopped foaming at the mouth and twitching all over his body from pain he could finally see the new generated traits. 'Ugh , that was very unpleasant , i hope it was worth it' he thought before bringing up the system screen. 'Eat five poisonous things and get poisoned five times huh? not super unreasonable but i am honestly not looking forwards to this' Alex thought before grudgingly taking another bite of the poison shroom. Thanks to the large size of the mushroom it was enough to fulfill the requirements for both traits. 'all this suffering just to level up a trait , it better be worth it.' Alex complained before looking at the upgraded traits description.

After leveling up the [Omnivore] trait Alex gained the ability to eat any organic thing he wanted without issue. While this sounds similar to what it was before it actually included things that he shouldn't be able to eat such as parashrooms that without this upgrade would paralyze him upon consumption. Honestly the [poison resistance] was just an added bonus for Alex compared to the level two [Omnivore]. It was useful to a degree of course but from what Alex remembered poison wasn't that common in the new world.
