79 Armored dragon

Alex was surrounded by bloody water after killing the fish and quickly fled the area with his catch since he didn't want to risk gaining the attention of the large sharks in the area. Compared to a fifteen foot sharp Alex was little more than a light snack and he knew it. Alex did indeed attract a sharks interest but since he made it to the dock before the thing could close the distance he escaped with his catch safely. "Oi! i didn't know you ate those things , we usually throw them back since they got little meat on them" the foreman said when he saw Alex's catch.

Alex could accept this explanation of why he never saw this fish at the docks despite there being a few just off the coast here. "If you take that up to the canteen the head cook might take it as a challenge and make you some good food for free" the man said and Alex nodded before leaving. 'Since he suggested it I think i'll do just that' he thought as he waited for the next transport hook to grab. The people of this world had a funny way of getting around via moving chains powered by the nearby waterfall.

I only saved five minutes tops of foot travel but it was still the most used method to go between levels in the town. Alex liked using it simply because it was such a novel idea he just never got tired of it. Like the foreman had said when the head cook saw the fish Alex brought him he took it as a test of his skills and went to work right away. He peeled off the skin and armored scales before flawlessly separating the meat from the bones and slicing a small bit of meat away from the rest to test it's flavor.

This was something any cook worth the title would do before anything else since if the cooked meat tasted different then they assumed it could ruin the dish. The hot smooth oiled stone that served as a massive pan made quick work of the small piece of meat and the cook set it aside to relax for five minutes. Once the meat had relaxed the cook smelled it before popping it into his mouth and chewing for a moment with his eyes closed in concentration.

Once the cook swallowed the meat he looked thoughtful for a moment before seeming to decide on something and grabbing a few different fruits and oddly enough , peanut powder. A fish dish that used powdered peanuts and various fruits was something Alex had never heard of but was interested to try. Honestly Alex had no idea what the cook did but pretty soon a plate of the meat with a crispy outside swimming in a rainbow colored sauce was set before Alex to try. When he bit into the juicy meat Alex knew why the cook used fruit , it was bitter!

The first bite of the food generated the trait Alex was hoping for which put him in a great mood that the head cook took as affirmation of acceptance. Alex didn't even try to explain the truth since honestly the dish was pretty good and he will likely be eating quite a bit of it thanks to the requirements for the new trait. In order to unlock this trait Alex needed to eat the meat of fifty coral eaters , which he assumed was the name of the fish.

Once Alex was done with his meal he headed down to the forge to bask in the heat to level up his [heat resistance] trait since it was one of those types. It also helped that the heat made Alex slow down on his digestion to remain cooler. That was how he spent the rest of his afternoon which turned out to be quite fruitful since the trait leveled up twice to three. The smiths just got a kick out of him hanging out as they worked and even made him a small chest piece with some of their left over scrap which was a nice bonus for Alex.
